Welchol for chronic diarrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol for chronic diarrhea

welchol

401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn I new that after the surgery it would take some time to get back to normal (being able to eat and not have diarrhea). However, this is not my case-my diarrhea is if anything worse and more frequent. No certain foods cause it- one day I can eat something and have diarrhea, the next day eat the same thing and nothing. Sometimes it occurs immediately after I eat (before I've even finished my meal) and then other times it occurs the following morning.
Avatar f tn Since I was about 5 months pregnant with my son, who is now 10 months old, I have been experiencing chronic diarrhea and stomach pain that has been getting progressively worse. My OB said it was probably gallbladder disease, as it it common in pregnant women, and I could have it removed after I recovered from childbirth. Two months ago I finally had my gallbladder removed, my ejection fraction rate was 13%, and thought I would finally have my life back.
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar n tn I have spent 25 years of my life living with daily diarrhea since they removed my gallbladder. I'm one of those people whos stomach needed the bile that was released after eatting. Is there a pill out there that releases what the gallbladder did to stop this?
Avatar f tn The doctors said my gall bladder was so diseased that it had to be removed immediately. Since the removal (5 years ago) I have had chronic diarrhea everyday, all day. I would say that I have at least 3 bowel movements a day and most days it is around 5. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about this. I'm 23 now and I feel like I always need to be near a bathroom. This is no way to live. Is there any over-the-counter mediciations or supplements that I can take?
Avatar f tn I suffered with diarrhea for years.
Avatar n tn I have had 3 1/2 years of (sever abdomnal pain with upper back pains -Pancreatitis type pain , chronic diarrhea with malabsorption -verfied by several Fecal Fat tests to be malabsorption. chronic inflamation in my blood Markers( Overexpressed> CRP, ESR , Haptoglobin etc) High than normal >(Alkaline Phosphatase Isoenzymes) with a >normal Billirubin.
Avatar f tn ve been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now). Has anyone ever figured out what might be causing this?
Avatar n tn There is about a 5% incidence of watery diarrhea immediately following removal of the gallbladder that is thought to result from bile salt irritation in an empty GI tract. It usually responds well to resins that bind these bile salts (cholestyramine) so they can't irritate the intestine. Most commonly the intestine adapts such that these agents can be weaned off over several weeks.

Avatar m tn His vet advised me that his system was not processing the food so he gave him a shoot of antibiotics for the vomiting and he gave me some medicine to take home which included; antibiotics for diarrhea, stomach relief medicine, some kind of medicine for possible Giardia, and some pills for the nausea. I then decided to buy him Wellness Core formula instead of Poppy Chow since I read that Wellness Core was Grain free and was better for the dogs.
Avatar n tn Dairy definitely makes whatever is wrong, worse. I'm just very frustrated because I'm nervous to leave the house for too long in case I have diarrhea. Yet it's usually confined to the mornings. Can IBS be predictable like that, occuring mainly in the morning?
Avatar m tn I used condoms each time and none of them seemed to have had holes or broke.. I have had diarrhea for just over a month now and not any other symptoms. I am scared sick and realize the mistakes that I have made. What are my chances of being infected with Hiv?
Avatar m tn The diarrhea could be due to an allergic reaction, if it occurs with the consumption of the same food. If not, for the chronic diarrhea, if the stool culture showed a growth it is an infective pathology otherwise non infective pathologies like inflammatory bowel diseases or growths have to be considered. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn My wife has had chronic diarrhea since July and has had a minor heart attack due to low potassium. She has also developed a pain in the gall bladder area. Tests so far (upper and lower GI scope, CT scan of abdomen, ultra sound of gall bladder and numerous blood tests) have not been conclusive of anything other than microscopic colitis. She is on a variety of meds but nothing is stopping the diarrhea and she ends up in the hospital every few weeks to receive potassium through IV.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I have been battling chronic diarrhea for approximately 4 months following a 3 week period of flu in November 2016. I usually have diarrhea after I eat, and have lost appetite due to feeling nauseated with faced with food. I have tried to switch my diet to a less oily one with weaker flavours to encourage appetite but to no avail.
Avatar f tn t bland and soft, the diarrhea will not stop. I am sore, exhausted and not sure I can wait anymore for the answers. I am losing weight although since I am overweight that isn't necessarily a bad thing - other than the method is which I am losing.
Avatar f tn I also suffered horribly with diarrhea for about a year after, and eventually was put on Welchol to help. It also helped me to reduce the fried and fatty foods from my system.
Avatar m tn Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar f tn m afraid to eat, because this will produce bile, which in turn leaves me sitting on the toilet for hours. I have lost 8 pound since the surgery. The mornings are the worst, upon rising, I will go 6 - 8 times within the first hour, but it's just liquidy bile, bright yellow. I'm at my witts end...work thinks I'm a suck because this surgery has an expected recovery rate of just a few days.
Avatar f tn My vet suggested florentero every day for my Yorkshire terrier who seems to have chronic diarrhea. I think it is making things worst. He eats Orijen and I am trying to transition him to Acana grainfree Wildprairie (less protein) but the bouts of diarrhea are taking a toll on him and the vet just prescribes antibiotics but that doesn't seem like the answer.
Avatar f tn Why does your doctor prescribe Welchol for increased cholesterol? What about statins-Lipitor, Crestor? They are not advisable for people with ongoing hepatitis, but if you are SVR there should be no problem. They are much better tolerated than Wellchol.
Avatar n tn Track to see if the bouts of diarrhea coincide with the intake of fatty/dairy. But if the diarrhea is too continuous check to see if the doc will give her something like bentyl which will slow down the 'fast transit' through the GI tract. If that doesn't help, consider a bile-binding resin like that mentioned above, or perhaps Welchol (sp?) which can function in the same capacity.
