Common Questions and Answers about Welchol crohn's

welchol

Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar f tn I have been sick off and on for the last few years. This last year the flare ups have increased and have been house bound the last 3 months. I can make it to Dr. visits, tests and the occasional outing, but never far from a restroom. I am distended, I vomit up any food that isn't bland and soft, the diarrhea will not stop. I am sore, exhausted and not sure I can wait anymore for the answers.
Avatar f tn It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.
401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar m tn Can anyone explain to me why I still had a heart attack even while taking the following meds atenenol 50mg bid, HCTZ 25mg daily, zetia 40mg daily, plavix 25mg daily, welchol 625mg bid. Also what is the chance of a second heart attack My Aortic Valve, Tricuspid Valve, and my Mitral Valve are failing because they are stenotic and regurgitative. The Aortic valve is in the worst shape of the three they tell me. I have psoriatic arthritis and ankolosing spondylitis. all joints are involved.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar n tn Surely this is a bad dream and I will wake up soon but I know it is not. I found out that Welchol and another drug called Colestipol may work better than Questran but neither are avaialable in Australia. I am going to start Creone next week and see if that changes the status qou, maybe it might help being a digestive enzyme. Anyway if anyone out there can offer me any advice, please do. I am desperate, very desperate, the clock is ticking as far as time goes, and I am in the toilet, as usual.
Avatar n tn Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing. I am really troubled by my doctor's lack of concern.
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar m tn the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications. Pravacol, Tricor and Welchol. His answer for this question was: "Those medications took the blockages away." Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have about 600 welchol tablets that my insurance company accidently over-sold me. I cant take this medication any longer. It was prescribed to me because of gallbladder removal. Can I do anything with this medication since I will not be taking it? Its in 3 huge , sealed bottles.
Avatar n tn You may want to ask the doc if he can try a bile binding resin like questran or somehting like Welchol. There's also the possibility that calcium could help. But it has to be in a specific form and take ant specific times of the day. Google 'lnape and calcium,' and look at the information provided. The contraindication would be if he has a history of kidney stones or parathyroid problems.
1440074 tn?1283996071 starting on Sunday, I have been having very severe anal spasms along with a ton of pain, and some itching. It is very hard to sleep at night due to the pain. I have not been constipated, so I don't think it would be hemmorroids. It does not hurt to go to the bathroom either. The pain is pretty constant with spasms very often, and when I have a spasm the pain is so intense that it causes my entire body to tremble. I would describe the pain as almost like a bite near my butthole.
Avatar f tn My daughter is in her 50's and has had Crohn's most of her life. Surgeries resulted in her losing feet of intestines. My question is this...It's possible to replace many parts in the human body, hearts, liver, lungs, skin etc...so why can't the intestine be replaced?
Avatar f tn Ok, I am 29 years old, and have always had problems with my bowels. But, the last year or so, things have gotten really bad. I will go for 1-2 weeks being coonstipated, then have bloody diarrhea for 2-3 days, then go back to being constipated. I had a colonoscopy the 1st of this month, and was supposed to go back in and get my hemerroids banded on the 7th.
Avatar f tn Hi, welcome to the Crohn's Community Forum. I have had Crohn's for 40 yrs, dx when I was 24 yrs old. Cortisone IS used to treat Crohn's, but now only for short periods, say 3-4 months, because of the side effects of long term use. If the Crohn's is in the terminal ileum area and/or first part of the colon, a newer steroid, Entocort can be used, which does not have the debilitating, and embarrassing, side effects that prednisolone and prednisone do.
Avatar f tn I have Crohn's Disease and I have been having alot of lower back pain. I went to the doctor and had a UTI, so they gave me antibiotics. I have had 3 different antibioitcs and am still hurting in my back. I went back and did another urin screening and everything was perfect. I had them to do a cbc and it was normal also, but I'm still having the back pain. They are referring me back to my crohn's doctor and setting up a CT Scan to check everything out.
Avatar n tn I have Crohn's Disease for over 20 years now. Recently, I found out I have many Gall Stones and is causing a lots of pain. My general doctor suggest the removal of the Gallbladder but I'm concern about without it will make my Crohn's worse. Wouldn't just removing the stones better then without Gallbladder?
Avatar n tn My 18 year old daughter has been recentely diagnosed with Crohn's. Since her diagnosis, she's had two episodes of severe vomiting in a month. She has rarely vomited in her lifetime. Both times she had large servings of dairy- mozzarella sticks and cottage cheese. She's loved both in the past and had no issues. Could there be a link between Crohn's, vomiting and dairy or just a strange coinsidence?
Avatar m tn s been undergoing a Welchol treatment for the last 5 to 6 months and has only been able to take 1/2 pack every second day due to the pain but she feels she's on the right path. I, of course, am doubtful, been that route before. Again, thank you for taking so much time for us and for the others you help.
Avatar f tn For the past 3 years, I have been getting recurrent canker sores. They would apprear twice a month. They disappeared only when I was in my secong and third trimester of pregnancy. I did various tests and a colonoscopy to rule out Crohn's disease. I also did the ASCA and ANCA blood tests. My colonsocopy was normal. ANCA was negative but ASCA was positive. I dont have the classic symptoms of Crohn's (diarrhea). is a positive ASCA an indicator of Crohn's?
