Welchol cholesterol drug side effects

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol cholesterol drug side effects

welchol

Avatar n tn These still have significant side effects, but may be worth discussing with your prescriber. Outside of drug therapy, try taking a look at dairy products that are marketed as containing plant sterols. The evidence to support the fact that these products can help to reduce cholesterol is relatively strong.
Avatar f tn ve been on 80mg of Lipitor for over four years without any side effects. You may want to discuss this drug with your doc. The cardiologists at the hospital (Brigham and Women's) that I go to in Boston won't consider intervention unless you're well over 45% blocked when the cath is in you. I would be happy with 15% to 20% since I have had six stents via cath after heart attacks. CAD and heart attacks run in this family too.
Avatar f tn Which is more risky, having a stroke or heart attack due to the very high cholesterol or experiencing severe mucle pain due to the side effect of the Statin. I don't want both of them! Did anyone here experience bad effects of a Statin drug? If yes, what are they? Has anyone experienced severe muscle pain due to the drug? If you did, what did you do? What are my other choices besides Statin? I am also experiencing PVCs lately and it really scares me.
932718 tn?1288324930 please advice me how long I should take this tablets and do you suggest any other tablets with this. do I get any side effects.
Avatar m tn Typically, the normal muscle pains will be gone in a day or two. The more severe side effects can last longer. Are you sure the side effects were from the statin as the listed side effects are very common to many conditions. In studies, just as many on the placebo control group reported side effects as the statin control group, about 1 in 2,221. Let us know.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar f tn Unless you have experienced the full brunt of side effects from statins, you can not state "just stick it out". The side effects are unbearable. I finally asked my doctor if it was really healthier that i went from someone who worked out at the gym 5 days a week to someone gobbling pain medicine and laying on the couch. I had no life on the meds and so, I opted to take the risk.
Avatar n tn There are other drugs and each and every one has basically the same side effects BUT not all are always experienced by every person ... also many even though a factor, are not experienced to the same degree. You might take this up with your Oncology Team in detail. You should remember though that this may be totally unrelated to Arimidex or any other aromatase inhibitor. Regards ....
907968 tn?1292622204 I just got a refill of my Carvedilol (3.125mg) I take two pills in the morning and two in the evening and it has been this way since August '09. I read the side effects just out of curiosity and I had nothing better to do and what I found was, "Check with your Dr. as soon as possible If you experience cold or numb legs or feet or unusual leg pain". And it goes on to say "Contact your Dr. immediately if you experience....(lists what seems like 10,000 things)...
Avatar n tn i had blood work done and now my cholesterol is 160 without any changes except for the Prevacid. Can Prevacid lower cholesterol ? I was worried because I have read that an unexplained drop in cholesterol could mean cancer someplace.
Avatar f tn It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.
Avatar n tn I understand your concern, but after much research concerning the side effects of statins meds, PVC's are not a listed side effect. In fact, statin use has been studied in exercise induced PVC trials and have been shown to reduce the incidence of PVCs due to exercise so it would stand to reason that they also do not affect normal heart rhythm. Having said that, your PVCs may be anxiety related to statin use.
Avatar f tn Have you tried Welchol? Its actually a cholesterol drug but my doctor prescribed it for the side effects, he said it acts as "kitty litter". So it might be worth checking into. Also, for pain, I'm surprised your doctor hasn't mentioned the Fentnyl patch, which will not be affected by your issues because its absorbed through your skin, not your stomach. Good luck!
Avatar n tn Tell them you have stopped the medicine and tell them why. And TELL THE DRUG COMPANY. They are obliged to report any side effects so if this has happened to you they will add it either to th next patient leaflet, or nearer to the top of the list if it is already there, which I'm sure it is, Must go, horrible day ahead. Be well. Tell us your sex please!
Avatar f tn Also know that properly balancing Thyroid hormone may itself bring your Cholesterol into proper balance. High cholesterol is a symptom of being Hypo. Most Dr's seem not to know this.
Avatar m tn Yes, I've only been on it a week and I experience the muscle aches and bilateral flank pain as well. In addition, insomnia!
Avatar m tn I would recommend asking your Dr or pharmacist if these are possible side effects. There could be another reason why you're gaining weight and your BP is up. You should'nt have any side effects from stopping this med but, your Dr put you on it for a reason. I take it you had high cholesterol numbers? See your Dr before you quit taking it. That's just my suggestion.
8793992 tn?1400079332 is it the side effects? Tonact is Atorvastatin a drug in the group of statins which is used for high cholesterol. It is usually a safe drug. Main side effects are elevated liver function tests and and a condition called rhabdomyolysis. But these are not very common. Stopping the medication will depend on your cholesterol levels after taking the medication and your other problems like high BP, diabetes, family history of heart problem etc.
Avatar m tn Have you any thoughts on how long after stopping taking Terbinafine and you would expect the side effects would start to ease off?
1510649 tn?1301575339 ve been dealing with for the past three years (My neurologist thinks I may have MS because one side of my face keeps going numb and because I had some spots show up on an MRI of my brain recently. The neurologist also checked me for Lyme and it's negative.). I'm on a host of different medications because of different medical problems I have, including some cholesterol-lowering medication.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.

Avatar f tn We are not sure Verapamil is the drug for him, but we are praying his cholesterol will go down and this will eliminate that drug. We are still looking for success stories others have had with meds, surgeries, and etc. If yu take either of these drugs, do you have these side effects?> How do you maintain the symptoms? This has been an emotional time for us both.... please offer advice if you'd like. My friend has HCM, Mitral valve weakness, and B fib (not a fib)..
572651 tn?1530999357 s wild alright. This is typical for a medicine gone bad with adverse drug effects. The drug manufacturers are losing profits and have to find another population to pawn it off to. No thank you. Thanks for the info everyone!
