It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.
I just got off of zetia and welchol. I could not take statins. I tried them all. Used to take Niaspan and fenofibrate but they took me off cause both cause problems in some and had not 'reduced the incidence of cardiac events'. I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot.
I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.

This year my triglycerides were at 535, I stopped taking a med and they went down to 212 over 3 last 3 months. My last lipid panel showed triglycerides 212, Cholesterol 191, LDL 122 and HDL 26. Results in 2020 were roughly the same numbers. I don’t really go to a General Practitioner unless it’s an emergency, do I need to see one regarding the slightly elevated triglycerides and the really low HDL? Would rather not go if not necessary. These numbers were fasting from Midnight on.
I know there is a connection with HIV and high Triglycerides and such but I am unsure of if it would be the ART or the virus itself that can cause it? Reason I ask is I have had a couple of tests, but made a couple of mistakes since then...my lipid profile showed massive elevations in triglycerides (almost 1000) I drank a lot of soda and smoked so i know those had something to do with it.
Londres is certainly correct that there are a few other options available to treat what could be assumed to be familial hypercholesterolaemia, even though your doctor has obviously tried those that would be most obvious.
Generally, if you experience muscle weakness as a side effect of Lipitor (atorvastatin), other statins will produce similar effects, so that eliminates the use of Zocor (simvastatin), Crestor (rosuvastatin) etc.

hi, tr not stress yourself over thoses nmbers . yes it should be lower, they like them to be 150 and under, . he needs to execrise everyday and to eat less sugar .
my tris were over 600 two years ago , they ae now 148 which needs to be lower to. but i stoped walking and eating right. so yes its a concern but he can lower them.

My Triglycerides are high its like 268 I now been exercising doing cardio no fried foods I also been counting carbs im 30yrs old my overall cholesterol is 161 I did weight 215 two weeks ago I now weight 206 I ate a burger before I got blood work done do you think that could have made the triglycerides high.
Total cholesterol is made up of HDL and LDL cholesterol but also factors in VLDL and triglycerides. You can not get your total cholesterol number without all of this factored in.
Perhaps your VLDL (very low density lipids) or triglycerides are out of whack and higher than they should be. Do you know what these numbers are as well on your report?

The benefits of it over statins is that is is not processed in the liver and does not enter the bloodstream. It is supposed to bind with bile duct acid and lower cholesteral in the digestive track. Did your cholesteral spike after treatment? Did it go down any after a while?
I was shocked when my doctor told me my cholesteral was 318!!! My LDL was higher than my total cholesteral has ever been!
the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20%
The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state)
and he said I had NO blockages at all. HUH??? My lipid profiles are still horrible even with medications.

Of course, I am no doctor but this seems funny to me.
My testosterone level and triglycerides level are high. The doctor ordered glucose tolerance test and sure enough the results came back that I have insulin resistance. The doctor then put me on Metformin. I have been on Metformin for almost a year now and my dose was increased from 500mg to 1000mg a day. I am have several dry skin, my hair keeps falling off, and diarrhea.
total cholesterol = 487, and triglycerides were over 2000, about 10 years ago. I have a genetic condition that causes this.
So, in spite of the risk of combining statins and fenofibrates, my GP placed me on both medicines, after consulting with his cardio doc friend.
I can't remember how long I was on these medications, but I know that I had to stop statins in general, because my body just will not tolerate them. I continued to take Tricor for quite some time.
