I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.

I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!

While you wait for the dotor ot answer: Like all the rest, foods/drinks (and coffee), vitamins, and other drugs, take Welchol hours away from your thyroid medication. Welchol can make it harder for your body to absorb certain other medications, including levothyroxine/Synthroid. So as long as you take them both far apart from each other, you should be fine. Low Vitamin D, did you tell the doctor? Will you be taking supplements to build up your low V-D, I presume.

I do have to urinate a lot too. I was taking cholesterol medication (Welchol) and Cosamine DS for back pain. I stopped taking it last week but I still have the pain. It subsides for a while and then starts again almost like contractions. What is wrong with me? It turned out to be the welchol I had started on to decrease my cholesterol. I felt bloated, constipated, a little dizzy and a fast heart rate every late afternoon and evening. I was very fatigued and just felt lousy all over. I have to admit that the pressure feeling in the esophagus was the scarriest.

I dropped down to 1-2 tablets a day total to see if I could manage my IBS and allergy issues and hives with diet and lifestyle, but after 2 weeks, I think the bile in my system somewhere is bringing back my horrible head to toe hives and fatigue and arthritis. Even the glands on the back of my head are swollen and very hard today.

For the past year, my wife has been having almost constant liquid pass and the area around her anus is just totally sore. Our new GI is treating it like IBS/Colitis with wechol and other meds. I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.

I just got off of zetia and welchol. I could not take statins. I tried them all. Used to take Niaspan and fenofibrate but they took me off cause both cause problems in some and had not 'reduced the incidence of cardiac events'. I think they have concluded that neither do Zetia, except when used with a statin, so it is the statin doing the work. I also think Welchol has been shown to not reduce cardiac events too. not sure. I am on Repatha. Third bi weekly shot.

Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.

I had a recent bout with pouchitis and took Cipro and Flagyl (and yogurt) . The Cipro made me feel normal again and reduced frequency to 5-7 x's a day- I felt good! When I came off the Cipro the high frequency diarrhea problem returned. I go every 6 hrs at about 4 trips per. I am so beat down by a lack of sleep and stress from this that I am ready to die!!! I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?

The benefits of it over statins is that is is not processed in the liver and does not enter the bloodstream. It is supposed to bind with bile duct acid and lower cholesteral in the digestive track. Did your cholesteral spike after treatment? Did it go down any after a while? I was shocked when my doctor told me my cholesteral was 318!!! My LDL was higher than my total cholesteral has ever been!

I will also ask about cholestyramine and welchol. My Lymie friend who I saw yesterday also recommended the cholesytramine.

the first two times, there were a few blockages - 10, 18 and 20% The last time was in December 2013 with a different cardiologist (I moved across the state) and he said I had NO blockages at all. I had the same problem, went to a GI doctor and they ran a colonoscopy (perfectly normal) but he decided it was because of my gallbladder removal. The bile in your liver has no where to be stored since your gallbladder is gone and therefore it constantly drips into your intestine causing you to have diarrhea every time you eat.

I had my gallbladder out 2 months ago and I eat a low fat diet and also daily diarrhea. I read online that it is common after gallbladder removal and some people it gets better over time and others always have diarrhea. Does your husband feel better atleast after gallbladder removal?? Once a medication is dispensed from a pharmacy it cannot be sold back to the pharmacy or any other person. This is because even if you've only had it for a day and the bottles are still sealed, it is impossible to know if it has been stored properly and has not been tampered. Attempting to update information following latest appointment in hopes the information will be of benefit to others experiencing similar problems pre and post surgery for gall bladder removal. I have been placed on Xifiaxin (an anitibiotic specifically for "the gut"), and another medication called Welchol, that I am to adjust according to my diarhhead symptoms.

t have near the problems you do, I have IBS and have experienced some of the pain you are having. Have you tried Welchol? Its actually a cholesterol drug but my doctor prescribed it for the side effects, he said it acts as "kitty litter". So it might be worth checking into. Also, for pain, I'm surprised your doctor hasn't mentioned the Fentnyl patch, which will not be affected by your issues because its absorbed through your skin, not your stomach. Good luck!

I had mine out at 23% and had bad diarrheah for 6 months. They can give you welchol or questran to help bind the stool if that happens. I also found out that sphincter of oddi was my problem that made the gallbladder go bad. If I would have known I had SOD then I would have waited a little while longer to get it out since now the SOD attacks are worse than the GB pain.

I too suffer ffrom both ibs and anxiety. I have noticed that my ibs does act up more when I am stressed and my anxiety is high. I am currently not on meds so I don't know if they will help the ibs. I guess it makes sense that they would being that on the meds your anxiety should be more manageable. There are certain foods that cause my ibs to act up. Try and keep a food journal and you might be able to pinpoint some of the triggers. Stress of course makes everything worse.
