Avatar n tn I have had Hypothyroidism for 25 years. For at least the last 8 years or so my TSH has been 0.01. My last labs came in as follows: TSH 0.01 reference range 0.34 - 5.60 (low) Free T4 1.55 reference range 0.63 - 1.36 (high) Free T3 3.89 reference range 2.50 - 3.90 I have never had thyroid surgery. I am not taking vitamins. I have been overweight my entire life and although I eat healthy & exercise I struggle to maintain my weight. I am a 55 year old female.
Avatar f tn Can nexium and priolac cause weight gain. ARe there any other over the counter meds for reflux/sour stomach?
Avatar n tn If you've been on the nexium and you've changed your diet to a GERD-friendly one and the symptoms continue, have you been scoped yet? If not, it's time to ask your doc for more testing. Ask to be tested for H. pylori and have an upper endoscopy done to get an idea of what your esophagus, stomach and duodenum look like. All PPIs have side-effects that can be more serious than weight gain.
Avatar n tn in a few days, but I am sure he will tell me that the Nexium is safe an not causing my weight gain etc. I really believe most doctors listen more to the drug reps than the patients. I am feeling a little helpless today. Has any one else tried to get off these drugs and had similar side effects?
Avatar m tn I take 40mg daily of nexium daily. I was having acid attacks even with the Nexium, alway at night when sleeping. I have the wedge, extra pillows etc. Garvistan, Tums next to my bed. I once asked Dr. when could I stop Nexium he said I would need to lose weight. I have low iron, low B levels. Thinning hair etc. I already have spinal stenosis. I have been on Nexium for at least 10 years. Anyone out there who's been able to quit Nexium, let me know how and how long it took.

Avatar m tn I am 19 and I've been thin my entire life. I am 5'10", 115 pounds, and have BMI of 16.5. I've been trying to gain weight over the last year, but despite increasing my calorie intake over 1,000 calories to 3,500 a day, I've only managed to gain about 5 pounds. I've seen a doctor, and my physical/blood work/x-rays are all normal. I've been reading tips that say I should eat throughout the day and enjoy high calorie foods, and its helped me consume more food.
Avatar m tn Thanks for your reply, we've talked before. I agree with all you have said, and have tried it all. I mean ALL. My problem is that at times my system doesn't produce enough acid, and sometimes too much. Numerous doctors have given up. It just goes in never ending circles. Ulcers flare and then settle down and it's when it all 'flares' that I decide life isn't worth living and desperately try something new.

Avatar f tn GERD is what I initially thought after researching my symptoms. I've always had a nervous stomach, I've had issues with a nervous stomach since I was younger; throwing up easily. Do you know if GERD would cause my body to change so drastically? I don't understand the 40+ lb gain within a year.. Would GERD treatment resolve my swollen/excessive weight gain? I've had this ongoing cough for a very long time and presents it's self with stress and anxiety.
Avatar n tn fatigue, depression, irritability, insomnia, anemia, hair loss, constipation, diahrrea, tinnitus, headaches, dry skin, weight gain or weight loss depending on parasite type, gas, bloating, IBS, extreme hunger pains, neck pain and stiffness, joint aches and pains, itching, biggest indication is CHRONIC OR CONSTANT FATIGUE & DIGESTION ISSUES. Neither are normal. If Drs.
Avatar n tn The problem with taking any PPI for too long is that since it suppresses acid production, it's also efectively supressing part of the body's self defense mechanism. In addition, some studies have shown that there's an increased carcinogenic risk after 14 years of usage. Your goal should be to get off of the drug. But you will have a bounce-back period, which may be for a very long time in your case.
Avatar m tn I have gerd and losing weight is normally the best thing for it as well as monitoring what you eat and when. Do not eat at night, for example. Do not lay down with a full stomach, for example. So, you do have to take that into consideration. Acidic foods are difficult on gerd and gastritis like spaghetti or tomato sauce, stay away from cola and coffee.
Avatar f tn The biggest hurdle that we face is that when you are over weight, everything that is wrong with you is because you are fat. I have dealt with this issue all of my life. That is unacceptable to me and we will move on to the next doctor. If being fat is the cause of every illness why do skinny people get sick? That sounds absolutely ridiculous. Most of the time, doctors will get an idea about what is going on and refuses to entertain any other possibilities. Send you to see a psychiatrist?
Avatar n tn Hello everyone. Wanted to know if am the only one struggling with weight gain. Am 29 weeks with my second pregnancy and I've only gained about 9 lbs. The weight is all in my belly. I am 5:2 and I weighed about 125 lbs prior to my pregnancy. With my first pregnancy I gained 13 lbs throughout the entire pregnancy so I shouldn't be concerned but am a bit worried.
Avatar f tn I don't have a problem losing weight, I just have a problem with losing weight. Like I can't seem to gain any weight at all. Before I got pregnant I weighed 145, by the time I had him, in April 2013, I weighed 173. I breastfeed and two weeks after having him I was down to 155, then two weeks after that was down to 146. And now that I'm not breastfeeding, I'm still constantly losing weight. I can't seem to stop.
Avatar n tn Hello. I was diagnosed with GERD several months ago, and lived with almost daily pain (no meds were really working) until about 2 months ago, when I started Nexium. I was blissfully almost with any symptoms for about 6 weeks, even if I ate common reflux triggers, but now I'm experiencing pain again. Can Nexium just stop working like that? I should add that my diagnosis came after basic blood tests, an endoscopy, an ultrasound to check my gallbladder and a CT scan of my abdomen.
Avatar n tn The stomach emptying study came back regular, and the endoscopies always come back with eosinophilic esophagitis. The first diagnosis put me on Aciphex for almost 2 years. After, I was able to stop taking the medicine and had no issues for 3-4 years. Then symptoms started to return. This time, I was put on Nexium (twice a day, before breakfast and dinner). The nexium seemed to help, but really reduced my appetite.
Avatar f tn Thyroid abnormalities may also give rise to these symptoms (especially hyperthyroid state which can make you lose weight and even find it difficult to gain weight). This can also be an early manifestation of MS which just fails to show up on MRI (which is entirely possible). You can discuss these other scenarios with your doctors and possibly be worked up for such conditions. Until then, I suggest you avoid stress as much as possible and have adequate rest. Regards and God bless.
Avatar n tn When you are hypothyroid, your metabolism is lower than normal for your height, weight, and age. So, the weight gain is the same as if you were overeating or not exercising enough.
Avatar f tn I think thats a wivestale that if you have alot of heartburn your baby will be born with alot of hair lol chubaca hahahah
