1832268 tn?1326819610 Daily IV fluids given by me at home and pills have provided him with more than one extra year. His levels were off the charts when first diagnosed, weight lose was what made us notice something wasn't right. After 4 months of meds and IV his levels were reduced and brought way down. They are back up again now and it's just a matter of time. But with a good vet, money, and a lot of your own time, you can definately give your pet a fighting chance and more time with you.
1963554 tn?1325451090 I had to put my Boxer down today from kidney failure. He had been losing weight for quite sometime and his breath smelled horrible. My vet mentioned his weight on a visit back in January and said he needed to lose some weight so that wasn't a bad thing. I mentioned the bad breath and the vet tech said it was from him drooling they get an infection around their mouth. They gave us an antibiotic.
Avatar f tn Benadryl is also something of an anti-emetic, and can be given at 1 mg per pound of the dog's weight, but I doubt it will be very effective in the face of this kind of vomiting. Worth a try though. Another thing that helps is calcium - lots of it. I was giving Chica 2 Tums a day during her last couple of months. The calcium binds to phosphorus which is deadly to those in renal failure.
203342 tn?1328740807 The week we had to put Mickey down, I lost alot of weight. I was unable to eat and felt very very selfish for putting him down. I felt selfish eating because I know how much he liked to eat. I feel sad everytime I get a treat for Pj and think Mickey would love to be eating this treat as well. If I can give you one word of advice that to this day I regret not doing? At the vets office the dr asked my husband and I if we wanted to be with Mickey when he was put down.
Avatar n tn I don't have any knowledge of what could have happened to your dog, but would like to say I'm sorry to hear of her death. My dog is also twelve, and at the vet last week I read on a chart that she is beyond being a senior, she is in the geriatric stage, which yours would have been too. Its hard to believe their that old, you can at the very least be comforted that she didn't have a disease that you would have to watch her suffer with, or have to euthanize her.
