612551 tn?1450022175 I use to take Plavix (Clopidogrel as clopidogrel hydrogen sulfate). It likes the blood thinner as you described above. No need blood test and it won't cause excessive bleeding. It has been approved in Australia for a while. It comes with clopidogrel 75mg 28 tablets in a box. Cost AUD $82.79 for no medicare patient. I have been diagnosed TIA. I also have a history of low platelets (ITP) so I can't take Warfarin nor Aspirin. The neurologist prescribed this Plavix for me.

Avatar m tn They would do both the valve and the root in open heart surgery but at your age they may use a metal valve which would require warfarin for life. You may wish to watch for answers to my question for doctors.

612551 tn?1450022175 I have been taking 2 grams of Korean Ginseng for a few months now and have found no problem with interactions with use of Warfarin. I not here for experience here. I take mostly in the hope to achieve some energy improvements, none noted, but fyi, I lost about 10 pounds down from about 238, I am 6' 5". I believe this may be due to the Ginseng affect on my digestion of carbohydrates (which I love to eat) - causing less production of blood sugar and fat.

Avatar m tn In a study published today (1 August) in the Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, researchers show that warfarin reduces the scarring on the liver. This scarring, or fibrosis, replaces normal liver cells and can lead to cirrhosis of the liver and ultimately liver failure.
Avatar f tn Alcohol use also may affect your response to warfarin. Excessive use can lead to a sharp rise in your INR. It is best to avoid alcohol while you are taking warfarin. I have been on warfarin for 6 months now for DVT, my INR should be between 2-3. It has been quite stable. Make sure your Father keeps a check on his diet. Consistency is everything when taking Warfarin. Stress, sleep changes, diet, other medication, even the time of day that the blood is taken can all affect the INR level.
Avatar m tn Hello, Dermatitis, urticaria, alopecia, rash, bullous eruptions, pruritus, and pallor have been reported infrequently with use of warfarin. If you are having these symptoms after use of warfarin then you can talk to your physician and get dabigatran prescribed as an alternative to warfarin. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn you have to think of the worse case senario of switching to warfarin having the warfarin be too strong and your wife getting a bleed of some kind. This could be in her GI track, brain etc. and can be very life-threatening and could cause huge hospital bills. So, depending on how long she will have to take the plavix for, and what she is taking it for, it may actually be less expensive to use the plavix.
Avatar n tn Recently, my father in law had a stroke. He s been on coumodin for about 12 yrs for his heart rythm or irregular heart beat. Over the past winter he had trouble swallowing, {IE food seemed to get stuck in his esophagus}. I took him to hospital where he visited a stomach and throat specialist. He was scheduled for a camera test down his throat, and was told he d have to cease taking coumodin 5 days in advance b/4 the scan which he did stop taking.
Avatar m tn I have the same history you do, of valve surgery and post-surgical HIT. You can take warfarin with a history of HIT. If you happen to have a mechanical valve, I'm sure you already are taking warfarin. If you're on warfarin, and you're wondering what to use for bridging, that would be Arixtra (fondaparinux). Fondaparinux is dispensed in syringes for subcutaneous injection, to be self-administered once a day. I've used it, and it's easy.
Avatar n tn my mother in law is on coumadin and has arthritis in her knees and back. Can she take or use things like ginger,or glucosamine sulfate without affecting the coumadin?
Avatar f tn Warfarin is the oral anticoagulant most frequently used to control and prevent thromboembolic disorders. Warfarin has a complex dose-response relationship that makes safe and effective use a challenge. Loading doses of warfarin are not warranted and may result in bleeding complications. Interactions with other drugs must be considered, and therapy in elderly patients requires careful management.
233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar m tn nt need to be on warfarin and it was my decision but said he would not take if he was in my shoes how can there be so much controversy over the warfarin issue anybody else going through this your thoughts are apperciated Thanks Happy New Year
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
1488195 tn?1288153991 ). Warfarin is best suited, in areas of slowly-running blood, such as in veins and the pooled blood behind artificial and natural valves, and pooled in dysfunctional cardiac atria. So common clinical indications for warfarin use are atrial fibrillation, the presence of artificial heart valves, deep venous thrombosis (clots), and pulmonary embolism (where the embolized clots first form in veins).
Avatar n tn A 77-year-old woman who developed a 2-fold increase in INR while receiving APAP with concomitant acenocoumarol (8), and a 74-year-old man experienced a 3-fold increase in INR when APAP was added to his stable warfarin regimen (6). Fluindione has also been implicated in this interaction (9). In a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial 36 patients received either APAP 2 g daily, 4 g daily, or placebo for 4 weeks.
Avatar m tn My cardiologist would not let me stop warfarin even when in NSR. I had two period each about 1.5 years long when I was in NSR, but I always go back to AFib. Yes, I too would have preferred not to be on warfarin when in NSR...but my cardiologist was concerned that I might go into AFib while sleeping and go back into NSR when I wake up and not know that I was having periods of AFib. As said, I use warfarin, noting it too has risks and problems.
Avatar m tn ahhhh ok. reckon it will be ok to use a ring after?
Avatar f tn Thank you for your input ladies!!!! I'm feeling very stressed about the whole situation. I'm on lovenox shots and oxycodone pills gor the pain. Hopefully everything gets better sooner than later O:-) good luck to the both of you!!!!
Avatar m tn Jude Masters series aortic valve with attached dacron graft. This make and model of valve has been in use for over 30 years in the US market and has a great track record. I am happy with it. There are some things I do not like about being on warfarin, but I have no real dietary restrictions or activity restrictions. I can eat what I want and do what I want. I certainly do not regret the decision to get my mech valve.
1569985 tn?1328247482 but I am in permanent AFig. Years ago when I was in NSR with the threat of returning to AFib I took Warfarin just-in-case and then it didn't bother me to stop Warfarin for a few days if needed. So far, no clot or stroke.
1679243 tn?1307674938 This is more of a question about Warfarin, Plavix, blood thinning treatment ect... I was swimming yesterday with my kids and was rubbing my eyes a good bit. Afterwards my wife noticed my left eye was bleeding, not pouring blood but there is blood in the white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt or bother me it's just a nice size blood spot. I've been on Warfarin and Plavix and a daily baby aspirin for over 6 months to treat my heart disease.
