233622 tn?1279334905 The clearance of R-warfarin is generally half that of S-warfarin, thus as the volumes of distribution are similar, the half-life of R-warfarin is longer than that of S-warfarin. The half-life of R-warfarin ranges from 37 to 89 hours, while that of S-warfarin ranges from 21 to 43 hours. Studies with radiolabeled drug have demonstrated that up to 92% of the orally administered dose is recov-ered in urine. Very little warfarin is excreted unchanged in urine.
Avatar f tn After leaving hospital on 5th Jan with the doctors permission I was allowed to fly on 10th Jan to stay with my friend in Mallorca as long as I had my INR checked on 16th Jan My first visit to hospital in Spain was problematic because I had woken up that morning with bad cystitus and was peeing blood, when I told the Spanish doctor this he took me off the Warfarin and gave me 6 days of Clexane injections plus some antibiotics for the Cystitus.
Avatar m tn Warfarin, in a short explanation, help to stop the formation of blood clots if i understand well, but what about the existing clots we might have already.
Avatar f tn My INR is almost always in the target range 2.0 to 3.0. I never see any blood in urine, or elsewhere. I think when I "nick" myself with a sharp implement, I bleed more than I used to, but never a problem stopping. I believe blood in the urine is one of the "no-no" symptoms and should be addressed. Maybe your doctor would agree to let you stop coumidin (replace with aspirin) for a few days and see what happens. It is possible aspirin may case problems by itself.
Avatar n tn He had his post-op and the doctor confirmed everything was ok and he could resume normal activity and go back to work, well last night into today was his first day back (mind you, the whole time he was recovering he had no blood in his urine) and he called me to say his urine was pure blood! The doctors seemed to be puzzled as the where this blood is coming from....... Any ideas, suggestions???? HELP!!

Avatar n tn Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar f tn Vitamin K is what causes your blood to clot. Therefore the warfarin cancels out some of the Vit. K to make your blood thinner. I have to have my Protime (PT) checked every couple of months to make sure my blood is not too thin or thick. Really no big deal. BTW, it doesn't lower blood count, just the ability to clot. As far as the calcium or Vitamin D I do not know of any effect on those vitamins from taking warfarin. I will also check with my pharmacist per Sassie's suggestion.
Avatar f tn If you have too little warfarin in your body, you may be at risk for forming dangerous blood clots. Medications, food and alcohol can also interfere with warfarin, making close monitoring even more important. Warfarin is taken once daily at the same time every day, preferably in the evening, with or without food. Many drugs can potentially interfere with warfarin and may cause your INR to change, putting you at risk for bleeding or a clot.
1569985 tn?1328247482 more bleeding than usual with your menstrual period or any other vaginal bleeding; blood in your urine (may be pink to dark brown); blood in your stool (black or tarry stool); unusual bruising (black-and-blue marks on your skin) for unknown reasons; fever, sickness, severe diarrhea or nausea, dizziness or confusion; rapid or unusual heartbeat, shortness of breath or chest pain; pain or swelling in any part of your leg or foot.
Avatar n tn After reading an article on postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, I discovered dehydration leads to low blood volume which causes low blood volume which lowers blood pressure and the heart increases rate significantly to supply blood to the entire body. BINGO! I immediately started drinking 2 liters water (distilled) in addition to my others liquids which were primarily limited to coffee, water with meds and exercise, and a few beers.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Warfarin for about 2-1/2 years. I am 67 and have some issues with thinning hair, but believe it is genetic and from my hypothyroidism. I don't have any of the side effects you've mentioned, and as Jerry said, many of these symptoms can be age related. Xarelto is one of the newer blood thinners, but my ep told me there is no antidote to the newer drugs and should you need emergency surgery they could be a problem.
Avatar m tn I discussed changing to Pradaxa with my cardiologist when that drug first came out, I decided not to use it because of cost (warfarin cost about 12 cents a day) and the fact I do well on warfarin, albeit I have to have my blood coagulation tested once a month. Recently I have seen a lot of "bad news" about Pradaxa including law firm adds looking for new participants in a class action suit, as I understand it...I could have that all wrong.
1042487 tn?1275279899 My question I have two factors for having blood clots Prothrombin and Lupus Anticoagulant I was taking fish oil, garlic, nattokineese and a host of other supplements and still had clots. now i'm on warfarin for life and have to be very careful what I take as it can effect my INR I even had to find a vitamin with no Vitamin K. Have you any suggestions.
996946 tn?1503249112 Can warfarin weaken blood vessels or have adverse effects on the heart or other organs over time?
Avatar m tn The most common anticoagulation drug prescribed after heart valve surgery is warfarin (Coumadin). The newer blood thinners are apixaban and dabigatran, also known as Pradaxa and are expensive. The main concern is that specific antidotes for bleeding are available for warfarin but not yet developed for the new drugs. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn They test the blood but dont know what tests. They tell me my magnesium in blood is ok. Well it always is and blood doesnt show organ Mg levels. Now its too late ive had af for too long for it to reverse. My dr didnt know about the new anticoag pradaxa- dabigitran extelate being approved for af. I have lost confidence in my healthcare people. Its depressing.
Avatar n tn Unknown. Warfarin metabolism normally occurs through the cytochrome P450 (CYP450) isoenzyme system, with excretion occurring in the urine as inactive metabolites. It is postulated that large doses of acetaminophen may "exhaust" the capability of the CYP450 system to metabolize warfarin. Additionally, DARVOCET-N 100 TABLETS may reduce functional factor VII. Management: Monitor coagulation status and adjust the dosage of COUMADIN 4MG TABLETS (BLUE) accordingly.
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
Avatar n tn Do to a leg blood clot I've been taking warfarin (7.5) for three years. I am 62 years old and very active. I weight lift, jog, and ride a bike. Will I have to take warfarin all of my life or at some point can I discontinue it?
Avatar f tn re on a blood thinner like warfarin for some reason, they may aim for 2.0 - 3.0. In some cases where clotting is a real problem they may push it up to 2.5 to 3.5. Does that help? Do you have a heart or clotting disorder? Work with your doctor on that. They can control it but you'd have to be monitored regularly.
Avatar n tn I was sent home with Lovenox injections and Coumadin(Warfarin) these are blood thinners. I hope that you were sent home with these meds.
Avatar n tn What puzzles me is why a blood clot in arteries can be treated with aspirin/clopidogrel combine and the one in heart muscles will require warfarin? And why a blood clot should form on heart muscles which are dead for last six years? I agree with you that even high dose of aspirin can cause bleeding. But over time I have got used to 150 mg of aspirin daily and psychologically my comfort level is higher. Thankyou so much for sharing your thoughts.
612551 tn?1450022175 When I used to work in an ER, I could tell just by the blood when someone was on warfarin. It was sometimes as thin as cool aide. When they came in with nasty cuts, we'd try to stop the bleeding but sometimes they had to have it cauterized to stem the bleeding. LOL @ Jerry and the rat poison.
Avatar m tn 9 Months ago I had a DVT, Which broke off and became a PE. The DVT was in my Left Knee, and after 3 months of using Warfarin and several Ultrasounds and VQ Scans Later I was diagnosed as Fine and no more need for the Warfarin.
