Warfarin thins the blood to help prevent clots it's used in rat bait after the rats eat the bait they leave the nest to drink and bleed to death and we also consume the rat poison! Did your doctor say why you're on it after three years? I take warfarin because I have to factors for having clots, Prothrombin and Lupus Anticoagulant.

I've since been off warfarin starting in Nov 2012 and my headaches are worst then when being on warfarin. Still trying to figure out why. Before I started taking warfarin I never suffered from headaches.

Avatar n tn My son has been on warfarin since he was 7 weeks old due to having a mechanical Mitral valve replacement. His INR today is 4.8. The highest it's ever been.He is six months now and just starting solids which may be why the INR has been all over the place. I have been instructed to withhold his dose tonight and I'll test him again tomorrow. I've been doing some reading that INR of 4.8 is undesirable but not overly dangerous. Is that the case for babies as well?

It is given in such a tiny amount, that overdose is quite possible, especially if the vet has technicians or other people preparing medications. Sympathy and best of luck you and your remaining dog.

I was born with a bicuspid valve aorta, i have moderate to severe aortic regurgitation, mild mital valve prolapse, and a 4.0cm aortic root dilitation. Afterwards my wife noticed my left eye was bleeding, not pouring blood but there is blood in the white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt or bother me it's just a nice size blood spot. I've been on Warfarin and Plavix and a daily baby aspirin for over 6 months to treat my heart disease.

The problem is in establishing a consistent INR reading of 2-3. as soon as I can achieve that reading I will only have to go for blood test once a month. The stroke, according to my cardiologist was caused by Afib.

When i took my first dose friday at 10am later that day right around 3 or 4 i started experiencing intense upset stomach.
Avatar f tn I have on many occassions stopped my warfarin for medical procedure reasons. I take only 5 mg a day. So, in my exlperience on can stop "cold turkey" without any problems other than an increased chance of blood clots and storke. I have several risk factors, oncluding permenant AFib, so I have no choice. I do not have many side effects from Warfarin, but I am on less than half the dose you are taking. Do discuss with your doctor at your earliest, surely within a week or two.
Avatar m tn The only way I am aware that a woman with a mechanical valve might be able to carry a pregnancy to term is by taking daily heparin injections for anticoagulation purposes. Most people with a mechanical heart valve take warfarin tablets, but warfarin is contraindicated in pregnancy. Heparin is supposed to be safe for the baby, but there is no oral heparin; it has to be injected.
