Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin not working

Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn I don't know about "normal," but if the regimen of warfarin and Plavix is working for you, then great. Your goal is to find something that works. Have you been tested for clotting disorders? Your story makes me wonder about that, especially if the stroke happened to be due to a clot.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolism 3 years ago with hypercoagulability (genetic) and have been on 2.5mg of Warfarin per day for the past 3 years. I have just had an abdominal scan, and was told that I have a dense, fatty liver. I have tried to eat as healthy as possible, but had to cut a lot of greens out of my diet, as it affected my INR and would have lead to me having to increase my Warfarin dosage. Now I am not sure if this lead to the 'fatty liver'problem.
Avatar m tn I don't think it is your warfarin that is making you sick. You should not be able to "feel" anything about the warfarin. An INR of 2.5 is a fairly low target. Some people with mitral disease have a prescribed INR range of 3.0 to 4.0, so your doctors aren't overdosing you, by any means. You have a lot going on in your body that could make you feel bad, beside taking warfarin, and the warfarin is probably the least likely culprit.
Avatar m tn I am now in my 6th year with the mech valve and on warfarin. It is definitely NOT true that you have to avoid green vegetables and other foods that have vitamin K. What you do have to do is eat approximately the same amount of such foods over the course of about a one to two-week period as you do in the next one to two-week period. If you just eat what you like, you will tend to do that naturally. It's not hard. Also, avoid binge drinking, as mentioned above.
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
942410 tn?1274047074 Today I am one week post ablation. INR reading 3.8 so I get to back away from the Lovenox needle YAY. Warfarin 5mg still in the picture. Not alot to report on the" event meter" but still some break through arrhythmia so I still get to push the record button. I'm finding a daily nap is a great thing for the tired feeling that comes with this journey. I hope anyone out there who is considering ablation is finding some hope through my story.
Avatar n tn Some surgeons request that a patient not be on plavix or warfarin at the time of surgery in order to minimize the risk of bleeding. Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar m tn re on a beta blocker, and warfarin or aspirin ? Xarelto is a newer warfarin alternative but not if you have had valve problems. My wife has had AF for about 10 years and takes these meds and just lives with it. As itdood says, just do the best you can and don't let it control your life. Don't worry about a single episode of VT, it probably won't happen again.
Avatar f tn I have never taken Warfarin, so I am not sure, but, I would suspect it might, sort of makes sense, but, I am not a pharmacist. If you feel comfortable with your pharmacist, why don't you ask him; let us know the answer, I am curious now.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am worried about being on Warfarin. I really smacked it, but it did not break the skin and I did not see stars, pass out or anything. I called the nurse and she told me to watch for double vision or dizziness, but she said they worry more about people slipping and falling and cracking their head. So far I just have a slight headache, but my anxiety is kicking in and that's never good. Has anyone had this happen? Any input? Thanks.
Avatar f tn A person on warfarin with an inr of 1.2 is not at risk of bleeding out. They are at risk for a clot. People not on warfarin normal range of about 1 because they don't have a bleeding or clotting disorder, thus 1 is normal. I take 10 MG a day everyday and my inr was 2.2 just today. It all depends o. The reason behind taking it.
882102 tn?1240622411 If you ARE in continuous a-fib you are a walking time bomb for ischemic stroke. When your atria are not working properly they do not empty as they should. Additionally the turbulence created by the fibrillation can cause clots to form. If the clot forms on the right side of your heart and gets out then the only place it can go is your lungs. Google "pulmonary embolism". I understand it is NOT a pleasant way to go.
Avatar f tn Warfarin is a medication that requires careful and frequent monitoring to make sure that you are being adequately treated, but not over- or under-treated. If you have too much warfarin in your body, you may be at risk for bleeding. If you have too little warfarin in your body, you may be at risk for forming dangerous blood clots. Medications, food and alcohol can also interfere with warfarin, making close monitoring even more important.
Avatar n tn He was also on Warfarin after his second surgery. Last December, he had sore throat for three weeks and one day he vomitted and in like 15 mintues he passed away. I am not surre if his tissue valve failed or something else.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
Avatar f tn 9 (should be between 2-3) and then when I saw a lady Spanish doctor I told her I had diarrhea she said I could not go back on the Warfarin because its dangerous with diarrhea, I must continue with injections, I objected saying but it is the injection making me have diarrhea. She refused but put me on different injections Hibor. Instructing me to take injections only for 5 days and then injection and Warfarin for 4 days before going to my local clinic.
Avatar n tn I am a 71y male, active , working medical professional, with Hx of Htn & carbamatic mechanical aortic valve in 2000 for AI. Non Eluding Stent in Nov. 2009. Although published INR range is b/w 2-3 for patients on triple anti-thrombotic therapy of 75mg clopidogrel, 80mg asprin & warfarin,I've also heard that INR of 1.5 - 2 is also acceptable. Kindly verify, confirm, advise, forward relevant studies/trials PDFs.Thank you for your timely response and effort.
