Avatar n tn After my valve was replaced I had atrial fibrillation and was put on Warfarin. As well as muscle pain I began to get pains in my joints as well as muscles. I again stopped the statins and the muscle pains subsided but the joint pains increased as my warfarin dosage was increased. A second cardioversion cured my atrial fibrillation and the surgeon said that I could stop warfarin after being in sinus rhythm for six months.
Avatar f tn He was on dialysis for a 18 months before his dad gave him a kidney and now, 9 years later, that kidney is failing as well. He was in hospital for a month in Jan and landed up in ICU with blood clots in the lungs. He was given 4 blood transfusions but that has made no difference. He is on warfarin again (it was stopped last year Sept when he landed up in ICU with a nose bleed and got a blood transfusion, the warfarin was then stopped). Could it be his blood causing all these issues?
4822967 tn?1367656696 stop warfarin 5 days pre-op; restart warfarin post-op as soon as oral fluids are tolerated. High thromboembolic risk: stop warfarin 4 days pre-op and start low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) at therapeutic dose; stop the LMWH 12-18 pre-op; restart LMWH 6 hours post-op (assuming haemostasis achieved); restart warfarin when oral fluids are tolerated; stop LMWH when INR = 2.0.
Avatar n tn - why a clot should form in my heart when the muscles were damaged six years back and considering that I am on aspirin+clopidogrel which too have anti clotting function. - warfarin may be slightly better as compared to aspirin+ clopidogrel, but in my case with no AF, does it makes sense getting into this risky business of conatantly monitoring of INR and fear of bleeding. - I have seen on net some other drugs in market which are equally good as warfarin with lower risk of bleeding.
325086 tn?1217971180 Mike H thought it would be a good idea for me to post this link to the Warfarin study. I've been on it since Aortic Valve replacement in 1993..........I did not know I had Hep C until 2002, so all those years, I drank like a Sailor, and even after I found out, I continued to imbibe, I just cut way back. As Mike said, this is a very interesting study. It could be that my Warfarin usage has protected me all these years.
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...

Avatar f tn Strict diet and taking care of other causes like diabetes or hypertension can only prevent/delay the progression of kidney failure, it cannot normalize the kidney function. For this the underlying cause for the failure needs to be treated namely the polycystic kidneys. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn Johnycat, thanks for your comments, but Xarelto is not approved for mechanical heart valve patients such as myself or Dream_ers's father. Plavix is sometimes given to mech valve patients, but when it is, it's used as an adjunct to warfarin and not as a substitute for it. Xarelto, not at all. Sorry you had so many problems with warfarin.
Avatar f tn The symptoms may also be due to drug interactions if you are taking other drugs along with Warfarin. It may interact with other medications like OTC pain killers or cold medications. Alcohol interacts adversely with Warfarin and increases the INR. Coumadin /warfarin interacts with foods that contain Vitamin K. Vitamin K works against Coumadin /warfarin and makes it less effective. Please try to eat consistent amounts of Vitamin K.

Avatar f tn The first time, the doctor said she was in kidney failure. They took her off all of her blood thinner, Warfarin, and stated he would not give it to her for fear of her falling and causing internal bleeding. He also took her off of her lasix, because this contributed to kidney failure. He would only release her to a nursing home and would not write an order to resume the blood thinner or the lasix.
Avatar m tn Thank you for your question. Although without being able to examine you I can not offer you the specific advice on diagnosis and treatment that you need, but I would try to provide you some relevant information about your health concern. From your description of symptoms, it appears that due to clot disorder it may be leading to formation of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) that is a dysfunction of deep valves of veins. Symptoms appear as painful, burning, red, and warm leg.
Avatar m tn You may also want to talk to your pharmacist as they will have records of the meds you are taking and are best suited to identify if there is something you can take for pain that will not have a negative impact on the warfarin and INR. Other options you may want to try for relief include topicals such as stop pain or biofreeze or heat wraps.
Avatar m tn t say anything that would explain to me why you are taking Warfarin. I can understand that you would have/want-to go off of Warfarin before knee surgery, but afterwards? Do you suffer from Atrial Fibrillation? Are you on any other medications beside Warfarin?
Avatar n tn My husband has been diagnosed with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, kidney failure, and his arotic valve doesn't close properly, and he had a defibulator put in about three months ago. He has been on hemodialysis for 9 years. He has just finished 6 weeks of IV antibiotics for an infection that attached to his arotic valve and also in the lining of his heart. Dr.
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a double bypass in May 2011, three months ago and in the past two weeks i am getting very intense chest pain like i had before the surgery. I am having an angiogram in 5 days time and i am worried as they cannot put stents in because i am on Warfarin (Comadum} and they cannot give me another blood thinner for the platlets as they do when they put in stents. I have just turned 60. Thanks a mill!
Avatar f tn The only other thing I could suggest is the Fentanyl patch. What I assume you mean by slow release morphine is MS Contin, which is a very powerful drug, especially at 100mg. I have worked with a lot of patients that once put on the Fentanyl patch, finally felt releif. But it's not for everyone, the nausea symptoms of narcotics can be more intense. This is a 72 hour patch that you apply to your skin every three days.
770426 tn?1235061489 I started taking Warfarin 3 weeks ago after my PVI ablation. Since my first dose, I've been experiencing headaches almost every day. I rarely get headaches (maybe one or two a year) so it is significant to have them every day. A few weeks ago the headaches were on and off but it has been constant since last Friday and seems to be getting worse. I've been trying to ignore it but it is starting to affect my productivity. Did anyone else experience these headaches while on Warfarin?
