He was on dialysis for a 18 months before his dad gave him a kidney and now, 9 years later, that kidney is failing as well. He was in hospital for a month in Jan and landed up in ICU with blood clots in the lungs. He was given 4 blood transfusions but that has made no difference. He is on warfarin again (it was stopped last year Sept when he landed up in ICU with a nose bleed and got a blood transfusion, the warfarin was then stopped). Could it be his blood causing all these issues?
They also told us this would be a very painful way for her to die. We were told with the lasix she would go back into kidney failure. They told us with kidney failure, as her kidneys shut down, she would go to sleep and die peacefully in her sleep. We chose to have her resume the blood thinner and the lasix. At the nursing home she fell, broke a hip and was sent back to the same hospital, again taken off the blood thinner and lasix. She had pins put in her right hip.
My husband has been diagnosed with non-ischemic cardiomyopathy, congestive heart failure, high blood pressure, kidney failure, and his arotic valve doesn't close properly, and he had a defibulator put in about three months ago. He has been on hemodialysis for 9 years. He has just finished 6 weeks of IV antibiotics for an infection that attached to his arotic valve and also in the lining of his heart. Dr.
Strict diet and taking care of other causes like diabetes or hypertension can only prevent/delay the progression of kidney failure, it cannot normalize the kidney function. For this the underlying cause for the failure needs to be treated namely the polycystic kidneys.

How do we define heart failure? Am I correct to say that it does not refer to an absolute state but more to the degree of inefficiency of the heart in performing its function? Is it true that when a person has heart failure, it doesn't mean that his/her heart is going to stop beating soon, and that death is imminent?
A cousin of mine has had chronic atrial fibrillation since 3 months ago.
Coincidence, last year my older, rather obese neighbour had aortic valve replacement and a quad bypass just before I had my surgery. He had many problems including kidney failure and was in intensive care for a month but did not have AFIB. He was able to continue just with aspirin. He was the patient in front of me today and was told that they would not need to see him again. He has hypotension that they do not seem concerned about.
All who suffer from heart disease have a statistically higher risk of a heart failure than does the general population who do not have heart problems. This is true too as we go into higher age groups, the older one is the more likely they will experience a physical failure of some type or another.
I suffer from AFib myself and know I am at higher risk for additional heart problems, and for stroke even though I take an anticoagulant (Warfarin).
I was diagnosed with RHD (mitral stenosis) and had mitral valvotomy done in 1988(open heart surgery/splitting open the mitral flaps) when Im 30 as I was planning for a family. I'm 51 yo now and I underwent gastroscopy & colonscopy at a hospital in Mar2010 as I was experiencing food poisoning and abdomenal distension, Results were clear except for a minor ucler in the small intestinal wall. A month later, my legs swelled and I was warded for CCF and atrial fribillation.
I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Oh you poor thing! I do know how this feels. My husband died in January of 1999, and my dog only months later. It was very very hard indeed.
Kidney Failure in such a young dog could have been caused by ingestion of some kind of toxin?..... acute illness or infection of some kind?....could be an inherited weakness?

Is she gating sny meds for nausea? Have you tried the chicken (no skin) and rice with maybe some carrot or zucchini added? Have you tried one of the dry or canned diets for kudney probkems? You might try some canned green tripe. Some pet stores sell that now.
Samantha is a nearly 18 years old bichon fries and was diagnosed with kidney failure on Oct 2. She has good days and bad days. Sam has been on daily IV fluids since Oct. She takes zantac, vitamins, cranberry, denamarin and anti phosphorous medicine twice daily. She has lost considerable weight and lately has become disinterested in food. Hi, I'm a 14 year old female that is currently freaking out. I was an idiot, and checked online for the symptoms of kidney failure because I had back pain around where the kidneys are... Symptoms included, pain around the kidneys, swollen ankles of pain in the ankles, you get tired after walking up a flight of stairs..lol all of which I experience, also, when I urinate, I don't feel like all of the urine has come out of me....
Its cute, looks like he is winding up getting ready for take off! I think that dealing with this kidney failure stuff is just so overwhelming. Your mind is spinning all the time, worrying constantly. Like I said, I know it didn't come on over night, but once it got bad, the symptoms came on hard and fast. I was getting up everyday scared at what the deal would hold. Checking on my dear dog wondering how much worse he was. Waking up everyday and seeing him deteriorate.
Renal anomalies could be responsible for decreased or deranged renal function and may lead to renal failure. One working kidney is enough for normal functions of the body. It would be difficult to comment if your other symptoms could be related. I would suggest discussing the situation and the suggested management plan in detail with your treating nephrologist.

My 6 year 10 month Russian Blue male cat was diagnosed 2 weeks ago with kidney failure. His only symptons were a bout of vomiting and lethargy. His blood work was quite elevated, BUN 83mg/dl, CREA 5.1mg/dl, PHOS 8.8mg/dl. He has been given fluids twice and we have been giving him Azodyl capsules twice a day. Also sprinkling Epikatin on his food twice a day. We have been trying to transition him to renal diet with not a lot of success.
