Higher-than-usual doses of warfarin may be needed. Warfarin or Coumadin is prescribed to prevent strokes arising from atrial fibrillation and DVTs forming in the legs usually.
Avatar n tn Warfarin doesn't dissolve Blood clots! your body in time absorbs the clots. Warfarin thins the blood to help prevent clots it's used in rat bait after the rats eat the bait they leave the nest to drink and bleed to death and we also consume the rat poison! Did your doctor say why you're on it after three years? I take warfarin because I have to factors for having clots, Prothrombin and Lupus Anticoagulant.

Avatar f tn If you have too little warfarin in your body, you may be at risk for forming dangerous blood clots. Medications, food and alcohol can also interfere with warfarin, making close monitoring even more important. Warfarin is taken once daily at the same time every day, preferably in the evening, with or without food. Many drugs can potentially interfere with warfarin and may cause your INR to change, putting you at risk for bleeding or a clot.
1488195 tn?1288153991 this is how quickly your blood can clot. The lower the number, the quicker your blood clots. The reason blood tests are important is because of diet. Vitamin K, present in most green foods such as broccoli, spinach, lettuce etc, affect the performance of Warfarin because this medication relies on a fairly constant vitamin K level in the Liver to work properly.
Avatar m tn Usually people with a history of blood clots will be on warfarin for the rest of their life. Im not sure of any other meds you are taking but dizziness and nausea is a common side effect of many meds. Especially meds for heart and blood pressure. And it has been a hot summer..are you getting enough fluids. Nausea, dizziness and diarrhea are symptoms of heat exhaustion and electrolyte imbalances. Lastly, do you drink alcohol or take drugs recreationally? Suffer from stress or anxiety?
Avatar n tn The treatment for clots in the ventricle is warfarin. The clots usually become firm and do not embolize with time. If it is still soft clot, the warfarin will help to slowly reduce the size of it. There isn't much else that needs to be done now. I understand your concern about stroke. The longer you go on warfarin, the less likely you are to have a stroke from that source.
745331 tn?1232830226 I,ve implanted amultisite pace maker since 1 year for Dilated Cardiomyopathy and LBBB. Avatar f tn I had a blood clot after my 2nd pregnancy n every time u get pregnant u will have to take blood thinners. I'm pregnant now n on blood thinners.
Avatar m tn I recently (3 days ago) had a cardiac abalation and have been put on Warfarin for at least 30 days to prevent clots. Thirty days seems like a long time for post surgery clotting risks; my lifestyle is extremly changed by Warifarin due to the bleeding risk so I would like to end it sonner if acceptable. Does the risk last 30 days if I am having no significant A Fib issues (none to date)?
Avatar n tn Tamoxifen was not even considered for me because there is an indication for blood clots while on it. Femara does not have that indication, however, the clots kept coming while I was on it. It also caused severe bone pain. A little more than a year ago, I switched to Aromasin, and things have dramatically improved. If her cancer is estrogen receptor positive as well as being slow growing, then the hormone therapies like Femara, Aromasin, Arimidex, etc.
Avatar n tn Some people have inherited blood clotting disorders, for others it is situational such as at the time of hospitalization for any reason or following surgery. Sometimes the cause can be related to medicine, such as birth control pills. And, sometimes it can be related to another, underlying and perhaps quiet and undiagnosed, medical condition. This is no time for any uncertainty regarding the cause of the clot or its optimum treatment.
Avatar f tn For my father who can not have surgery to remove blood clots in the lungs and warfarin, etc. have not worked.....is there anything else out there that can dissolve the clots? Since we have the same blood type could we do a blood transfusion if I have the enzyme he doesn't have to dissolve clots? Thank you.
Avatar n tn Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar f tn My mom is taking Warfarin for blood clots. She was taking 3 mg and INR tested at 2.4 - doc said that was perfect. Then she got bronchitus and UTI and was in the hospital/rehab for 2 1/2 weeks. After she got out, Dr put her back on 3 mg, but she tested 1. So doc upped it to 4 1/2 mg for 2 weeks - she is still at 1.1. He's not happy about upping dosage to 6, but wants to get her INR back to 2.5.
Avatar f tn I had a severe DVT and took warfarin for six months. I was taken off it per my former MD and then had a near-fatal PE from another clot! I was taking aspirin when I had the PE. If you read the literature, even therapeutic levels of warfarin won't guarantee preventing subsequent clots. If I were you, I'd get the second opinion but STAY ON WARFARIN FOR LIFE and make the necessary adjustments. I also have no known genetic predispositions to DVT.
Avatar n tn My experience is with dual therapy (aspirin and plavix) and the last I heard that therapy is a appropriate post DES implant. It seems plavix helps reduce the risk for clots at implant site, and after a year the risk of clots is less than the risk of excessive bleeding with plavix. After a year discontinued plavix and remain on a baby aspirin. Several months ago after some dental work there was excessive bleeding for hours on a baby aspirin...
Avatar f tn The medicine should keep the blood just thin enough to prevent clots. If the blood is too thin, you may bleed too easily. Severe headache while being on Warfarin therapy needs immediate medical attention. Please get a fresh MRI of the brain done to find out if there is any bleeding or any clots in the brain which may be causing the symptoms of sharp headaches. The symptoms may also be due to drug interactions if you are taking other drugs along with Warfarin.
Avatar f tn s began to run more test on my Blood. Found out I am protein c deficient and on warfarin for life. (So they said). I tried to come off warfarin and after about 30 days I had enormous pain in my leg after an hour drive. The pain grew worse and it was indeed a blood clot. I could not walk for 2 1/2 months. Now I'm on my meds without question. AS FOR PAIN, I have plenty. My Dr. prescribed Lyrica 50mg, but I can't bare the swelling and depression it causes.
