Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar f tn However, if you vary significantly on some days, those days will have either too high to too low a coagulation result from your medication. I do very well with Warfarin, and I take a multi vitamin every day that in fact contains some "K", but I take the exact same amount every day and I try to have some salad or other "K" containing food each day to keep my intake near some regular (unmeasured) level. I take 5 mg of Warfarin every evening, before going to bed.
Avatar f tn Coumadin /warfarin interacts with foods that contain Vitamin K. Vitamin K works against Coumadin /warfarin and makes it less effective. Please try to eat consistent amounts of Vitamin K. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, kale, collard greens, cabbage, and salad greens are some sources of Vitamin K, but there are many others. If you are taking salad every day or other foods rich in Vitamin K, you must eat similar amounts each week.
Avatar m tn spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts) are rich in vitamin K, which can affect your INR. Don’t avoid vitamin K-rich foods completely — vitamin K is essential to our health. Studies show that eating regular, consistent amounts of vitamin K-rich foods is better for maintaining a stable INR, than not eating them at all, or eating varying amounts.
Avatar f tn Certain foods (like green, leafy vegetables) have high amounts of vitamin K and can decrease your INR. You do not have to avoid foods high in vitamin K, but it is very important to try to maintain a consistent diet every week. Alcohol use also may affect your response to warfarin. Excessive use can lead to a sharp rise in your INR. It is best to avoid alcohol while you are taking warfarin. I have been on warfarin for 6 months now for DVT, my INR should be between 2-3.
Avatar m tn Pradaxa is taken twice a day, shorter life in the body and is cleared from the body quicker than coumadin (warfarin). With warfarin, Vitamin K is used to reverse overanticoagulation in patients, there is no antidote for Pradaxa. Warfarin a lot cheaper than Pradaxa. Good luck with your ablation. Hope you do well on Pradaxa! Best wishes!!
Avatar f tn Is it common for those with ms to have abnormally low levels of vitamin b12? I read that a vitamin b12 deficiency could mimic symptoms of ms but that doesn't explain remissions. Any information would be helpful. Thanks!
Avatar f tn Low/deficient vitamin B12 is usually due to conditions that cause malabsorption unless you are a vegan/vegetarian. Vitamin B12 sources include fish and shellfish, meat (especially liver), poultry, eggs, milk, and milk products. Excerpt from "Skin rashes from vitamin B12" by Ed Donner: "Side effects of B12 supplements are rare, according to Southern Care Healthcare Group, and generally occur with the injections and not with oral supplements.
Avatar f tn Hello. I have low thyroid, vitamin d deficiency and low vitamin b12. I was wondering if anyone can help me with experience with vitamin b12. Can you suggest what kind, also if you have felt better after starting it. Thank you so much for your input. Vitamin D 25.
98474 tn?1240105274 Just wanted to say Hi to all and let you know that after 2 months on vitamin b12, the overwhelming weakness in my legs is GONE after 6 years! The heat is not even making me feel weak! I am amazed and hopeful that this is indeed the main answer for my ms symptoms. I guess time will tell. If this is the result of my Mayo Clinic visit(they told me the b12 was not the total answer to my prob even tho they couldn't tell me what it was) then it was way worth it.
Avatar n tn I take vitamin B12 Complex once a day and there are no side effects to this dietary supplement. This is actually a great source and mineral for the reduction of anxiety disorders. Of course, like any oral med/mineral, it's possible to overdose...but you'd have to take a hell of a lot to get to this point! To me, u cannot get enough of Vitamin B....
Avatar f tn I started getting injections of B12 a two months ago. And the effects have been amazing with respect to energy and alertness and a bit with the pain! I tried the daily dose of liquid for about a month and found no difference. I hate having to go to the office for the shot, bu it is really worth it. I wish my doctor had thought to check my B12 levels earlier.
Avatar n tn Eat a diet high in vitamin B12 and see if this improves your serum levels. The best sources of vitamin B12 include eggs, milk, cheese, milk products, meat, fish, shellfish and poultry. Take probiotics to help increase good bacteria in the gut and make sure you have adequate stomach acid. If low, then supplement with betaine HCI with pepsin; supplements found at health food stores. Try the baking soda (sodium bicarbonate, not baking powder) test...

188508 tn?1210548106 Hi I got my b12 tested and the results was 177 & the normal range is 139 to 651. My doctor says its ok. I have all the symptoms of b12 deficency. Is it possible that being on the low range I can still have symptoms. Did anyone experience this.
Avatar f tn I agree with Laura. Get the B12 tested first. It only seems like it would help if you are low on B12. It helped me but my levels were too low.
Avatar f tn Just want to say.. I see medhelp are advertising vitamin b12 patches. I took vitamin b12 injections twice a week and it got me out of a wheelchair, now take it when needed. not sure about the patches how they work but it worth a try.

1488195 tn?1288153991 Warfarin is best suited, in areas of slowly-running blood, such as in veins and the pooled blood behind artificial and natural valves, and pooled in dysfunctional cardiac atria. So common clinical indications for warfarin use are atrial fibrillation, the presence of artificial heart valves, deep venous thrombosis (clots), and pulmonary embolism (where the embolized clots first form in veins).
