Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin and itching

I have been on Warfarin for over a month and suddenly developed a rash on my arms and legs. What can I do about it?
As with other drugs, warfarin can cause allergy, rash, itching and GI symptoms like diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. It can cause loss of hair, joint and muscle pain, swelling of hands and feet, shortness of breath etc. Bleeding into brain can cause stroke, and into lungs can also be serious. If you are on warfarin you will need to get INR test done regularly to avoid any mishaps. Take care!
Hi, If anyone's reading this, It is now one month and 3 days post op. I feel pretty good most days. Today I'm having some left sided pain, probably due to sleeping on my left side. The home care nurse just called, my INR is 4.8 !!! It has been 1.5, 1.8, 2.4, 2.8.....then I had to go on the medrol dose pak (steroids) for a severe rash I developed from taking niferex forte (we think this is what the rash is from) . Niferex forte is a vitamin capsule with vitamin c, b12, folic acid and iron.
I had acute kidney failure and have thyroid issues both hyper and hypo symptoms. I had severe itching and anaemia as two of my many symptoms of kidney failure. Hypothyroidism is another cause of anaemia. To add, anaemia of chronic disease is a common condition associated with a wide variety of persistent inflammatory diseases. Diabetes is the number one cause of CKD.
What worries me is that the side effects of Nexavar may interfere with your plan to travel and surf in Mexico. So I think you should have a complete, detailed and frank discussion with your hepatologist and oncologist about the pros and cons of treatment is needed for you to be aware of the pros and cons. In the end only you can decide but you should have all the the information before you make any decisions.

I have been suffering severe anxiety due to a deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary emboli from the end of January. I am on warfarin tablets. My anxiety is worse after physical symptoms; such as pain and discomfort in both legs. Does anyone out there on warfarin have these or similar discomforts and how do you overcome the anxiety?
I'm overweight, take a daily prescribed regimen of baby aspirin, multi-vitamin, vitamin B6, vitamin C, vitamin D, and 6mg warfarin. I'm a lymphoma cancer survivor (2 years beyond chemo), don't smoke, drink alcohol only occasionally in moderation and even less caffeine, exercise somewhat irregularly, had lots of ear aches as a child associated with bronchitis but because I'm 61 now I don't think my childhood ear aches have anything to do with it.
When he went to hospital he was admitted for a week and the doctos said that he has a blood cloth for which he was given Warfarin and has been taking it every day for the past 2 months and that his heart is not beating properly anymore. All of a sudden his bottom part of the legs have developed lots of red spots and his feet are now a one whole red bruise, leaving him with a lot itching! Did you ever find an answer to your itching and bruising? I'm going through the same episodes, as cancer runs in my family also. Please email me at e.
A time to educate and inform the public about the risk factors, prevention, identification and treatment of this preventable and potentially fatal process. DVT, simply put, is a blood clot that develops in a deep vein of the body. The most harmful consequence of the development of DVT is that pieces of the clot can break off and migrate to the heart or lungs causing acute difficulty breathing and overwhelming stress on the heart.

I have been to about 30 doctors- including ENT's allergists, neurologists, chiropracters, opthamologists. psychologists, dentists and everything else u can think of. All CT scans, MRI of brain and blood work keep coming back clean and ok. Nothing I try seems to work. There was a period of time about 3 and a half years ago that the symptoms lifted for about 4 months and then it returned full force.
These do not necessarily entail cancer but we have to rule out more common causes like viruses, toxins or certain medications (blood thinners like warfarin or aspirin). Other differentials will be insect bites and even fungal infections or folliculitis. A complete blood test with platelet count as well as determination of Prothrombin Time (PT) and APTT may be able to help rule out any bleeding problem.
I was diagnosed in May of 08, had a doppler 3 weeks ago and have been on warfarin for 6 months the clot has not changed or dimminished at all. Just trying to get some information. I sometimes have pain in the back of my head and my neck hurts alot on the sides. I always thought it was tension or because of my shoulders because their usually sore. Now I think I create symptons because it just scares me. I'm 48.
Don't know numbers but we are all excellent and rapid healers in our family. Even on Warfarin, when they give mum a blood test it stops bleeding in 1min. Both Mum and i both had problems when we had appendicitis as even after just a week the wound had healed over the stitches and it was like having another operation getting them out (years ago, no soluble stuff then). So, I'm glad we do something right!
So, I'm much happier than I was yesterday, tho still a little concerned about what the hematoma actually is, and how its behaviour could be affected by my warfarin intake, and what effect it could have on my heart conditions..but I'm sure the clinic will reassure me on these matters and I've been in touch with the anti-coag clinic who didn't seem too concerned about it :) Kat, thank you for all your helpful comments. I really do appreciate them all.

Soloxine may interact with theophylline, warfarin, barbiturates, digoxin and phenytoin, so care should be taken to ensure there is no unusual fall out from these two drugs combining. In addition to these drugs, Soloxine will react with iron or calcium, so it is advised that if your pet is also taking supplements containing them, you should not give them within four hours after having administered a Soloxine medication.

tell your doctor and pharmacist what prescription and nonprescription medications you are taking, especially methotrexate, phenytoin (Dilantin), warfarin (Coumadin), and vitamins. tell your doctor if you have or have ever had liver or kidney disease, asthma, severe allergies, or glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G-6-PD) deficiency (an inherited blood disease). tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding.
Green Tea Consult your doctor before taking green tea extract if you take aspirin or warfarin (Coumadin). Taking green tea extract and aspirin or warfarin can increase the risk of bleeding. Discontinue using green tea extract 2 weeks before any surgical procedure. Green tea extract may decrease platelet aggregation. Green tea extract contains caffeine, which may produce a variety of symptoms including restlessness, nausea, headache, muscle tension, sleep disturbances, and rapid heartbeat.

No fatigue. No pain. I will every once in a while be able to "feel something "there" after exercise if I am dehydrated. Glad you are going off warfarin. Now Google "warfarin" and "fatigue" "depression" and see if that doesn't tell you something! If nothing else, getting off the W will make you feel empowered, I bet. Just not having to go in for blood tests every week (they never could get my INR stable) made me feel like I got my life back.
We finally confronted her and told her we thought she had an infection and that she must go to the doctor. She revealed that she was bleeding from her breast. She went to the doctor and he will not tell us anything. (Privacy Act) In doing research, I have determined that my mom must have IBC. Can anyone give me details on why the odor? How aggressive is this cancer? What time does she possibly have if left untreated?
I looked in my journal and I had itching like MAD from week 5 thru 17! Thats a long time to itch! Well, I took benadryl for it and benadryl gel, plus some kenalog cream. It coincided with my beginning Procrit & Neupogen, dont kno if that means anything. Hope your itch stops sooner than mine!
Just before we did the 2nd lyme test, one doctor questioned whether there is any point in doing the test, he said my mom does not have any symptom now and the test can come back false positive, and he is not going to treat her even the test is positive because she does not have any symptom.
