Common Questions and Answers about Warfarin and headaches

jantoven

widespread pain diarrhea dizziness headache feeling spaced out liver congestion irritablility In short, I hate this drug and feel FAR worse on this drug then I ever felt without it. I am healthy with no underlying risk factors. All I have is the occasional run of A-Fib which is usually self-limiting. I am so fed-up with having drugs thrown at me that make me feel like crap just because it is protocol.
Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
I was on warfarin for about a year and in that time I also started getting headaches. I've since been off warfarin starting in Nov 2012 and my headaches are worst then when being on warfarin. Still trying to figure out why. Before I started taking warfarin I never suffered from headaches.
This isn't really to do with atherosclerosis, but it is related. My mum has been having symptoms of dizzyness and headaches for about a year. She has had 2 MRI scans that have showed several lesions on her brain and has been taking cardiprin -to thin her blood? I think this reduces the risk of build up in her aterioles and capillaries so she doesn't have a blockage or a stroke. It has been suggested to her by the doctor to consider taking warfarin.
Hi I recently had heart valve replacement surgery and have been put on warfarin for the rest of my life. My question is this, how will warfarin afect my day to day life. I have a very keen interest in contact sports, such as soccer would I be able to continue to play these, and what are the risks in doing so? Is it possible to still have waxing done, i.e of the chest? And finally how long will it take for the INR to become stable, i have been on it for 5 weeks now, and my INR is at 3.
I am worried about being on Warfarin. I really smacked it, but it did not break the skin and I did not see stars, pass out or anything. I called the nurse and she told me to watch for double vision or dizziness, but she said they worry more about people slipping and falling and cracking their head. So far I just have a slight headache, but my anxiety is kicking in and that's never good. Has anyone had this happen? Any input? Thanks.

25mg, for the past 4 months or so i have been getting pretty bad headaches, but they were always contributed to something else(i.e meds, infection),well now that those are taken care of, my headache returned about 4 days ago and no amount of excedrin or ibuprofin even touches it, I am thinking i'm going to need to get a stronger med from the dr. Is it possible the headaches are from the premarin? and should i ask to maybe lower the dose or switch meds all together?
Hi, I am a 47 yr old male suffering from multiple sickness over the past 1 1/2 yrs. Current medications per day are 7mg of warfarin, 100mg of aspirin, 20mg of lipitor, 10mg of coversyl and sometimes 40mg of somac. Somac seems to make my stomach symptoms worse than better so im reluctant to take it.
What would cause my blood pressure to be high (190 over120) in the morning along with severe headaches and eye pain but as the day progresses the headache goes away and by noon my blood pressure is back to normal (120 over 70)
After the second procedure I developed a PE. I was on warfarin for 6 months and then in Jan 07 I went to a hemotologist and had many tests that were ok, so I stopped warfarin. At the same time, due to daily aspirin and severe anxiety from heart issues, I developed gastric and duodenal ulcers. I went on protonix and was fine in a few weeks. In October 06 I had more abdominal symptoms, had upper GI to reveal small ulcer. I took more protonix and was ok again.
Hi, My wife had major DVT on oct-2010 followed by delivery,,after that she was on warfarin-10 mg.INR was going on normal like 2.2,2.4..etc.But later it became very low like 1.6,1.4(presently).she had sivere headache since yesterday and really dont know why this is happening. My main question is what is the reason for headaches during low INR? Is it because of any further clot OR bleeding? Pls answer as soon as possible, as we dont have any idea of what to do next........

Prosthetic Valves and INR--Avoiding Headaches posted by J.D. on January 25, 1999 at 17:28:41: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear J.D., I have never heard of a link between INR levels and headaches. The risk of too low of an INR is blood clots, strokes, and thrombosed valve. Therefore I would not try to base therapy on whether she has a headache or not.
Hi there, The common side effects of warfarin are headaches, dizziness, weakness, nosebleeds, unusual bruising, purple colored toes, etc.Pain in the ribs can be due to any muscle sprain, muscle strain or costochondritis. The common symptoms of pulmonary embolism are pleuritic chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing up of blood etc. Without a complete evaluation it is difficult to determine the exact cause. A clinical examination and work up is important for correct diagnosis. Seek medical help.
We even think the leg pain is caused by warafin. Is there an alternative? He is always complaining of headaches. We are also mad that they didnt perform theMRI test with contrast last year.Your expertise would be brilliant.
While having a bowel movement, I had an intense throbbing headache start on the left side of my neck and move up into my head. This is not the first time it has happened. I immediately checked my bp - it was 171 over 100. After 10 minutes, it went to 159 over 94. Now it is back up and my bottom number is 103. My pulse is staying in the mid 60s to low 70s. I have a headache, I feel drained and a little nauseated. I am concerned and don't know what to do. I have lupus and I am on Warfarin.
hi , thank you 4 your reply , my doctor is not very good , the dvt was found by accident , i did not have any swelling in my leg at all , i went to the doctor with a constant headache , i have had this headache for 9 weeks now , it never goes , anyway since being on warfarin it has got steadily worse my ears pop and i have pain in my neck and shoulders and across my middle back , the bottom of my back is really painful, i went back to the doctors last week because both of my calfs were hurting
Alcohol interacts adversely with Warfarin and increases the INR. Coumadin /warfarin interacts with foods that contain Vitamin K. Vitamin K works against Coumadin /warfarin and makes it less effective. Please try to eat consistent amounts of Vitamin K. Green leafy vegetables such as spinach, broccoli, kale, collard greens, cabbage, and salad greens are some sources of Vitamin K, but there are many others.
Hi, How are you? Side effects of Warfarin or coumadin include severe headache, dizziness, fainting, unusual or persistent tiredness, bloody/black/tarry stools, chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty swallowing and swelling or sudden weight gain. If you observe these symptoms, inform your doctor for proper management.Coumadin can cause serious bleeding and this is the reason your INR should be monitored. Take care and do keep us posted.
Im not on warfarin anymore (stopped at least 6 months ago) but the nosebleed lasted 9 days. After ending up in the emergency they said my blood wasnt clotting as it should (INR 21?) RBC was around 9.2 at that point. The nosebleed stopped and has been stopped about a week and yet my blood count has gone down further (7.2) today and this approx a week after the bleeding has stopped? I have sever headache, lack of energy and getting very out breath but my BP wasnt that bad apparently.
What are the stats on blood thinners with A-Fib, is it common for clotting and bleeding to happen while on the drug ? What are the alternatives to warafarin? Everytime I get a headache I think about stroke.
I take warfarin which means there are alot of veggies i cannot eat . I am doing atkins but i get headaches and feel like throwing up most of the time can anyone else help?
The feeling of a small hat pressing on your head may indicate tension headache, a type of primary headache not caused by trauma or underlying conditions. Tension-type headaches may present with dull, non-throbbing pain, frequently bilateral, associated with tightness of scalp or neck. This may be due to emotional stress or sometimes hidden depression. This may be relieved by rest, ice packs muscle relaxants and analgesics. Try to avoid stress.
