Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn continue warfarin therapy, withhold warfarin therapy for a period of time before and after the procedure, or temporarily withhold warfarin therapy and also provide a "heparin bridge" during the perioperative period. Which management option to follow is primarily determined by the characteristics of the patient and by the nature of the procedure.
13586802 tn?1430668002 I was diagnosed with Afib in January 2012. Because my Chadd score was within "the range" cardologist put me on aspirin regiment. I had a mini stroke Sept. 28, 2012. I am now on warfarin for the rest of my life... Also, I am on Atenolol which seems to work very well. Funny story, I was in the doctor's office, in Afib, big time and he wanted to schedule an ablation. As soon as he said that I went back into sinus rhythm. I am in and out of Afib all the time.
Avatar n tn Rose, I was wondering if you had had a solution to this? The dental procedure, CSF leak, and being on warfarin all match my husband's current dilemma, so I'm curious what you found out in all of this. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Two years ago I had a stenosis in my small intestine which required surgery to correct.Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
Avatar m tn Other then our planning to remind his ENT doctor and the anesthesiologist the day of his surgery about his heart issues and meds he takes for it (and remind them that he is not taking his stroke risk prevention aspirin right now)...is there anything else we should know/tell them?
Avatar f tn I now suffer from permanent atrial fibrillation, and take warfarin, an anticoagulant. I have to stop taking that for any surgery, even for a colonoscopy (in case polyps are removed, and they always are), but that is a concern about too much bleeding. I don't take an antibiotic for surgery either, and if I had wisdom teeth (or even wisdom, ha! ) I'm sure they could be removed without me taking antibiotics.
Avatar n tn 5 years my cardiologist suggests me to change to warfarin + asprin theraphy. I am scared of warfarin due to its side effects and risks. What are my risks if I continue with my currrent asprin+clopidogrel dual anticoagulant theraphy? Shall appreciate advice or sharing your experience with these drugs or necessity of changing over from one drug to another?.
Avatar m tn I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Avatar m tn The most common anticoagulation drug prescribed after heart valve surgery is warfarin (Coumadin). The newer blood thinners are apixaban and dabigatran, also known as Pradaxa and are expensive. The main concern is that specific antidotes for bleeding are available for warfarin but not yet developed for the new drugs. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
Avatar f tn He received a mechanical valve and had a stent put in for the Aortic Root. Surgery was a great success. However, since the surgery, my husband has had several problems that His doctor seems to just brush off as an anxiety disorder. Here are his sypmtoms: 1. Dizzy spells - about once a week since the surgery 2. Double vision - about once every couple of weeks since the surgery 3. Numbness in fingers and cold feeling on fingertips - comes and goes 4.
Avatar n tn He was also on Warfarin after his second surgery. Last December, he had sore throat for three weeks and one day he vomitted and in like 15 mintues he passed away. I am not surre if his tissue valve failed or something else.
315318 tn?1353251800 If you are on a high dose of aspirin, wouldn't you be better off taking Warfarin (Coumadin)? And no you don't need to stop your meds as long as you have a stable INR. Dentists should treat you if your INR is under 3.
561185 tn?1216075940 I am on alot of meds but mostly Warfarin, nexium, Metformin, adn pain pills and muscle relaxers. No my doctor is not a cardio doc. General pract. but followed by my Neuro who is my MS specialist.
Avatar n tn Xarelto is one of the newer blood thinners, but my ep told me there is no antidote to the newer drugs and should you need emergency surgery they could be a problem. With Warfarin you can be given Vitamin K or plasma to reverse the effects. I wonder if trying the brand Coumadin might help you? I know the genericss are supposed to be the same, but sometimes people do better on the original drug. Just a thought. I say definitely discuss it with your doctor.
Avatar m tn for 40-50 yrs i have had p. a.d. and have managed to keep it under control w/ exercise and one surgery. so what is least amount of warfarin i should take. i'm not just another of their text book persons i'm my own person.
Avatar n tn My mother had gone through a sleeve gastrectomy operation 3 weeks ago. On the 22nd post-operative day, due to severe pain in the epigastric zone, her doctor ordered an abdominal CT. It turns out that portal vein and superior mesenteric vein are thrombosed. They put her on enoxaparin and wanted her to rest for 5 days until the next control. She refused to be put on heparin or warfarin because of her history of gastrointestinal bleeding and recent surgery.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
Avatar m tn I was taking warfarin for the knee surgery that was done feb. l4.and the Dr. took me off it on the after surgery follow up appointment this past thur. I don't know if I have Atrial Firillation. I do take blood pressure mediine.
Avatar f tn Now after a week of Warfarin and Lovemox shots, I am scheduled for a venogram, thrombolysis and then surgery to remove my 1st rib. After that lots of Heparin and more Warfarin for at least a month..not to mention LOTS of painkillers as this is a tough surgery. My question is how damaging are these blood thinners, anesthesia, painkillers and contrasts to the liver? Is there anything I can do to help my liver through this?
Avatar f tn Hi, I had a double bypass in May 2011, three months ago and in the past two weeks i am getting very intense chest pain like i had before the surgery. I am having an angiogram in 5 days time and i am worried as they cannot put stents in because i am on Warfarin (Comadum} and they cannot give me another blood thinner for the platlets as they do when they put in stents. I have just turned 60. Thanks a mill!
Avatar m tn I am concerned about possible drug interactions between the antibiotic azithromycin and the two heart medications warfarin and amiodarone. My relative has brief history of heart problems span one and a half years (though the underlying heart condition itself appears to be congenital). Rhythm problems resulted in CHF, hospitalization, and later diagnosis and heart surgery. Subsequent dysrhythmia and CHF has been prevented adequately with medication.
Avatar m tn Until 2 months back I was taking 150mg Ecosprin and 5mg Warfarin daily, then I was diagnosed with Hepatitis E and my INR value increased suddenly, so my doctor cut on the warfarin for few days until it dropped to <1.5 and then I started taking my warfarin again but my INR didn't increase. 2 weeks back my doctor increased my dose from 5 to 6mg but still my INR value is 1.4 and it is not increasing from past 2 months. Please help.
