Avatar f tn I have been taking Warfarin and 81mg of Aspirin since my heart procedure in 2006.
942410 tn?1274047074 Clearly your question is one for your doctor to answer. In my experience with Warfarin, and I get along well with it, aspirin is much easier to deal with if it is sufficient. I don't know the relationship between having a pacemaker and needing Warfarin. Warfarin is a blood anticoagulant (thinner) as I'm sure you know. It is taken to reduce clot formation caused by something line Atrial Fibrillation or mechanical heart valves.
Avatar m tn t try to be too physical) with permanent AFib. I take both warfarin (5 mg) and a low dose aspinin. I take the aspirin in the morning and the warfarin in the evening. I have at least two risk factors, maybe three given I had mitral valve surgery a couple of years ago.
Avatar n tn Well before any decision is made for something like Warfarin, you should have your INR (clotting factor) tested. An INR of 1 is how long normal blood takes to clot. An INR of 2 means it take twice as long and so it goes on. Aspirin and Clopidogrel (plavix) I believe attack the clotting mechanisms in different ways. Personally I don't think they know the long term outcomes.
Avatar m tn However, when I visited the Cardiologist for the first time last Wednesday he informed me that neither he nor any of the other Cardiologists wanted me to continue taking Warfarin, and that they wanted me to switch over to one 81 mg baby aspirin a day. Does this make any sense, and if so, what is their reasoning? This discussion is related to How long to stay on Tykosin .
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar f tn Sometimes aspirin is used in place of the Plavix, and the patient will be on aspirin and warfarin. That type of combo regimen is used when the doctor doesn't think that one drug alone is enough to do the job, and one drug obviously wasn't enough in your case. It seems that your Plavix and warfarin regimen is working, so I'll join you in giving thanks for that.
Avatar n tn In three months on Warfarin, I thinned over the top and front of my hair (I am a female aged 70) and also my nails went chalky, plus I couldn't sleep well and felt very off colour. The blood tests which were weekly due to an unstable INR became an ordeal when it took two or three attempts. I took Warfarin (for AFib) for about three and a half months and then refused to take it any longer, saying that I would take my chances on aspirin only.
Avatar m tn My specialist has feferred me for an ablation procedure which I am waiting for now. I was put on warfarin and bisoprolol and due to the nature of my work I cannot go back whilst on warfarin as i work offshore. I was wandering why I cant be put on asprin which will at least allow me to pass my medical to return to work after the ablation. I have been off work for 3 months due to this and without pay which is causing me a great deal of stress and anxiety.
Avatar f tn I have A/F and up to recently took aspirin to help stop clots and strokes, however due to a stomach bleed my doctor took me of aspirin. I have been on a site that recommends Radix Ginseng and other types of Ginseng, so my question is "Would these really help?" I dont want to take anymore pills than I am doing but could it be a tea or something like that? Have any of you any ideas about this, or are any of you taking this for the heart? Thank you.
Avatar m tn Been on warfarin and lopressor for a few years now, but wondering if I'm better off with Aspirin ( 80 ) mg. or so. Side effects have been limited, but somelack of erectness. Thanks in Advance !
1013028 tn?1250923267 Thrombosis can be prevented with heparin administration and treated with heparin and warfarin. If clots occur heparin followed by warfarin ( coumadin )is usually prescribed. Higher-than-usual doses of warfarin may be needed. Warfarin or Coumadin is prescribed to prevent strokes arising from atrial fibrillation and DVTs forming in the legs usually.
Avatar f tn I take Warfarin as follows: 3mg 2xda for 2 da and 4mg 2xda rest of week. Can't seem to get my levels even. Is the dosage too little or not enough?
612551 tn?1450022175 I had a surgical procedure last Thursday that required I stop all anticoagulant (warfarin) and aspirin (low dose) 5 days before the procedure. I recall my cardiologist being uncomfortable with the length of time I would be without clot prevention medications. I have permanent atrial fibrillation, so my heart is in the clot production mode 24/7. I have been back on warfarin and aspirin for two days and believe my INR is back in the 2-3 range.
Avatar n tn She explained that I had to be on the Warfarin and aspirin while healing because these were the drugs best suited to my condition. I also did a quick Google search and the first hit was a message on this message board that got the following answer from a doctor at the Cleveland Clinic. You may want to do the same search but here is the response from that post...
Avatar n tn The protocol guidelines are aspirin and plavix for year or a little longer if the implant was DES. Drug enduced stents have propensity to form a clot when compared to bare metal stents. After a year the consensus is to continue aspirin (81mg is OK), and unless there is a special need for an additional anti-platelet medication the plavix should be discontinued based on the risk of uncontrolled bleeding, etc. is greater than any benefit.
Avatar f tn The procedure was on Jan.29 and i was put on warfarin for 30 days. I had a normal period in february but then in march it started and never really stopped. I've basically had my period for six months straight. could this possibly be from the warfarin to be going on for this long? Is there anything that could be done about this?
Avatar f tn my father doesn't have atrial febrilation or any specific heart disease. Except that he did have sometime ago an angiography because of suspicious of schemia (not sure of pronunciation) also a type-A personality , which proved that there nothing to worry about and the schemia is due to bridge on the LAD artery (born like this). however his doctor put him for prevention on concor-cor 2.
770426 tn?1235061489 However, I just got a call from my EP who did my ablation telling me I no longer have to take coumadin. YAH!!!! I now have to start taking 325mg of aspirin a day. Why are you taking both warfarin and aspirin?
Avatar m tn ve told us that you are not on an anticoagulant such as Warfarin). The most serious threat we AFib sufferers are exposed to is clot formation and the possibility that will cause a stroke. Aspirin will reduce the risk, an anticoagulant will reduce the risk further.
Avatar m tn I take 5 mg of Warfarin each day and a low dose aspirin once a day. I take the aspirin in the morning and the warfarin at bed time.
Avatar m tn I have been prescribed with Atenolol for the AF and Warfarin (5mg) to reduce risk of blod clotting leading to stroke. Sie effects of Atenolol fr me are making me very tired and quite dizzy with BP dropping to 100/60. I understand the need for Warfarin (although I thought maybe aspirin would do given I have no othr complicating factors) but wat's the point of Atenolo?
1069105 tn?1256700412 What should be the proper treatment regimen? Shouldn’t she be taking BP meds other than statins, especially while on Warfarin? And aren’t blood thinners possibly contra-indicated by her history? Could her reduction in pain on the shoulder cause by the anti-inflammatory effect of the statin ? I have read numerous articles regarding the dangers of statins and am very concerned.
Avatar m tn Or if you have a tissue valve, and depending on what the issue is, maybe apixiban or dabigitran.
