Avatar f tn http://hepatitiscresearchandnewsupdates.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-war-on-drugs-kills-support-don.html "The price of this war however is not simply the cost of enforcement and incarceration." "Globally, the HIV and hepatitis C epidemics are fuelled by the criminalization of people who use drugs. Of the 16 million people who inject drugs worldwide, around three million are living with HIV and two thirds are living with hepatitis C.
649848 tn?1534633700 While I completely agree that raw data can be misapplied and that statistics can be cherry picked to provide whatever results we want, I fail to see how the author is trying to create fear and I certainly don't see him trying to provide justification for the cop wielding the assault rifle, since I believe his article was published prior to that incident, so that's quite a reach.

Ryan argued that the solutions to poverty have less to do with the federal government and more to do with people getting involved in their local communities.......
120574 tn?1240767840 Funny you mention this...I always wondered the same thing. I guess I knew deep down, that these women died, but it's hard to imagine. I think for the drugs I'm on, it said the average median survival was something like 16 months (don't quote me on that!!) How do they come up with these numbers when you have women, like us, who are on these drugs for years and years? Strange...I learned a long time ago not to read too much into the numbers, but it still get's you thinking....
Avatar m tn there are now 11 times as many people in jail for drug convictions than there were in 1980, constituting 50% of the prison population. Longer mandatory minimum sentences also keeps the inmates in longer. Most people incarcerated for drug charges are non-violent, have no prior record, and are addicts rather than major drug-traffickers. 50% Nearly half of all detained immigrants are held in privately owned facilities.
Avatar m tn https://news.yahoo.com/elizabeth-warren-suggests-she-d-132418932.html The link above leads to a story about Warren wanting to repeal a Biden crime bill in line with the "war on drugs". This "war", like nearly every other war during the last 25 years has been a giant financial burden and frankly is accomplishing nothing. We can do better. We have to do better. In so many circumstances, we are simply throwing lives away.
Avatar m tn Hello and Welcome Skeeter, I've been on vacation and am tardy in my response, sorry! Oh my dear, it's so much bigger than the FDA. It began with the so called, "War on Drugs" which has really become the "War on Chronic Pain Patients." The entire government is our fight, including the Media. The DEA is leading the war and the CDC recently joined that war. The FDA has been involved almost from the get-go.
377493 tn?1356502149 If we look only at the Iraq War years in which Bush was President (2003-2008), spending on the war was $554B. Federal spending on education over that same time period was $574B. So the following are facts, based on the government's own figures. * Obama's stimulus, passed in his first month in office, will cost more than the entire Iraq War -- more than $100 billion (15%) more.
547368 tn?1440541785 Hello and Welcome. I'm glad you found us and took the time to post your question. I am sorry that you have Chronic Pain. We know how disruptive that can be to daily living. We are here to offer our support and information. I hope you'll join us in doing the same. It's my understanding that most states are taping - or reducing the dose of opiates for most of us chronic pain patients. Indeed my opiates were cut by 65% one month in early 2014. No taper, no warning, just Bam!!

Avatar f tn I don't personally need statistics to know what is going on, all I have to do is look around. They don't want to export the illegals because this is who got Obama elected, he refused to enforce everyone having to show proper ID when voting. He's anti-American and doesn't care what happens to Americans as he "springboards" off our backs to be a world leader. People in Washington are very afraid of this man and nobody speaks up, they know he is friends with the enemy..
