Common Questions and Answers about Walking pneumonia antibiotics not working

pneumonia

Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with walking pneumonia two weeks ago. I was given Z Pack. I took it. It seemed to work for a couple of days then the symptoms returned. Doctor gave me another Z Pack. Same thing. It worked for a couple of days and then the mychoplasma returned. Question 1: Why did Z pack not get rid of it? Question 2: I'm on Doxycycline now. Will that get rid of it? I'm terrified to even get out of bed for fear that I will relapse again. I want my life back. Please help.
1100598 tn?1413127426 Ever since then, I have had chest pain, shortness of breath, fainting spells, weakness, back pain, a worseneing cough, low grade fever, chills, rash on my belly or chest, and nausea. The swollen lymph nodes have also returned. My doctor says I have bronchitis/walking pneumonia and put me on doxycycline on tuesday, but I am not feeling any better. I only have one day of antibiotics left.
1609219 tn?1298104935 Sinus infections that last for 4-6 weeks that take multiple rounds of antibiotics to cure, and walking pneumonia 3x within less than a year. I just saw an Immunologist last week... waiting on blood work results now.
Avatar m tn Once our pediatrician examined him she said the hives were from walking pneumonia. He is on the third day of antibiotics but hives are still appearing on his face. They go away within the hour without any treatment. Has anyone heard of this? Shouldn't the antibiotics be helping if the hives are because of the pneumonia or are the hives from something else?
Avatar f tn Also, usually walking pneumo is caused by a bacteria , mycoplama or chlamydia pneumonia. Did you get any antibiotics for it the first time? If not perhaps the bacteria was lingering and when you got overtired or ill you got it back. I would see a doctor so they can listen to your lungs, perhaps do a culture and perhaps give you an antibiotic. They may want to check your immune system to see if you are low in white blood cells or antibodies. They can do that with a blood test.
Avatar f tn Good morning I'm being treated for pneumonia just started antibiotics last nite feeling a lol worse off but my question is walking pneumonia contagious......it's funny but ct images showed fluid on right lung and I have side pain ouchee! But now more symptoms are appearing.
Avatar f tn Did you get walking pneumonia after a flu or a cold? Or did you just start getting the lung issue by itself? Usually "walking pneumonia" is a dry cough with sometimes stabbing pain in the side. You usually feel okay other wise but the pain is bad . Or you can just have the hacking cough secondary usually to a flu or cold.
250084 tn?1303307435 I get pneumonia almost yearly - I have a compromised breathing system. I have asthma and chronic bronchitis. However, after taking the TX - I haven't had it since - PLUS I got the flu/pneumonia shot - which seems to be working. However, DURING TX I got a killer blend of a cold that turned bacterial - and then roosted in my lungs and gave me walking pneumonia. I - too --- hanging head ---- smoke.
Avatar f tn I’ve been diagnosed with lobar pneumonia and was put on antibiotics. It’s been two days (5 doses of antibiotics, so far) and nothing has changed! There is still no congestion, no coughing (I’ve even had 5 doses of Musinex)...just fatigue and shortness of breath. The pain is on and off....I feel crazy!!! HELP?!? (No, I’ve not been sick...my Mom was treated for the flu, but I only had contact with her after she had begun her medication...
Avatar f tn t a category for walking pneumonia or upper respiratory infection , so here it goes anyway. Ok, so Last week on februrary the 2nd I got a sore throat, the next day I had a runny nose and felt like **** for a few days after that and then I developed a cough, I went to the doctor and he said I had upper respiratory infection (bronchitis).. so he gave me a z pac which lasted 5 days, and after day 3 I started feeling better and after the last pill, I felt fine. No cough, no sore throat, nothing.
Avatar f tn Well, my husband had the same symptoms as well, but when he woke up today, it was harder for him to breathe so he went to the hospital and found out he had walking pneumonia but was given nothing to treat it because they said he has to get over it himself. Now I'm worried that it might also be what I have, but they found out by X-ray, and I know I shouldn't get an X-ray while 20 weeks preganant. And even if that was it, would they even treat me for it?
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar f tn If you go back to the forums page look to your right the expert/doctor forums are there look down to pediatrics put your question there for a better answer .
Avatar f tn Those are two of many possible reasons. A friend of mine had walking pneumonia and was diagnosed with paranoid delusions. She needed to see 5 doctors to get the right diagnosis!
Avatar f tn That's been going around, my husband has a sinus infection and mild walking pneumonia. he's on antibiotics now, and cough syrup with codeine. And my friend has it as well. And my uncle just got over it. I'm sure you and the baby will be fine. Best of luck. Get well soon.
Avatar n tn Could this have been walking pneumonia? Almost everything I come across regarding pneumonia discusses high fever, cold/flu like symptoms, and being able to hear it with a stethoscope. In my case, I had fatigue, presumably pleuritic chest pain, and shortness of breath. That seems to be about it. I am not sure if any of the other symptoms (i.e., GI issues, dehydration, and misdiagnosed hernia) are related--which is why I went into so much detail.
242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
Avatar f tn I had texted with my physician and after being sick for 11 days, he had put me on mild Antibiotics Azithromycin 250mg for 5 days (first day 500mg) saying I probably have walking pneumonia. I had Mycoplasma walking pneumonia 2x before in 2009 already. It slowly improved after taking it and I'm better, but still not healthy and feel it is getting worse again. Every inbreath I feel a cold tickling in the mid chest area and feel I need to suppress a dry cough.
Avatar n tn Hey there first time posting on this forum, I keep getting respiratory problems like 2-3 months in between, I lead a healthy lifestyle working out 3x a week paired with basketball 3x a week, No smoking, Healthy diet even taking multivitamins,my last respiratory infection was Pneumonia 2 months ago which was cleared with antibiotics, before this pneumonia I had Bronchitis which was cleared with rest and water, now My chest feels congested and I'm wheezing but I had no fever and my nose or thr
Avatar m tn some kind of lung infection, bronchitis, just to warn , There were 2 times when I had severe pneumonia, and my temp. was low , which just meant my body was not fighting the infection at all. So even if your temp is low, you must go, it will only get worse if its pneumonia, will not go away on its own. I hope you feel better, get to the docs!!
1901977 tn?1333991726 I was trying to tough it out but my upper respiratory infection has moved down into my chest and with my asthma, the doctor is really worried about it turning into pneumonia and just put me on the "Z-Pack" (Azithromycin)antibiotics. I'm in my 12th week right now, and really worried about taking them. But the doctor says if my breathing goes bad or I get pneumonia that's much worse for the baby...so I just took my first dose tonight.
