Common Questions and Answers about Wake up coughing every morning

coughing

I generally do not get a solid nights sleep and feel tired. Every morning I cough up white mucus for the better part of an hour. I have been the doctor route and now when my doctor sees me he is "fed up" he is frustrated since he has tried everything as he put it to dry me up. I sort of gave up and decided I was meant to live like this. Well, last week my daughter got a bad cold, passed it to me and we both evolved into what appeared to be sinus infections.
Okay so I feel I'm suffering from HIV anxiety even though I had a protected exposure with little to no risk after reading symptoms I started feeling a tickle in my throat and was coughing.....seems now I am coughing for no reason throughout the day and ending up with a sore throat. Ok so I WAS a smoker for about 5-6 years but quit once I found out I was pregnant last year.I was screened for cancer earlier this year. 3 years ago I had become sick and my throat had swollen,I was coughing and I felt like my throat had to be cleared constantly. Ever since that day I have been literally hacking (more like a cat with a hairball.NOT a cough) up THICK mucus.Sometimes it is clear, sometimes yellow and there are even times it has come out green or with brown chunks in it.
I have had this for almost a year where I have been coughing almost spasm like and I feel my throat closing up, my lungs hurt, I wake up in a sweat at night. I have been to the doctor and have done various tests done but it all seems to come out clear. I am currently on steriods "predisolone". Can someone please tell me if they have had the same symptoms and suggest what might be causing it?

Hello everyone, I been having a problem, every morning I wake up and I cant breath until I take my puffer which loosens up phlegm deep inside me and I cough it up. The weird part about it is the phlegm is like strands of crystal clear gel or balls. Then as I start to get my breathing back it's almost turns to a thin liquid I cough up .After about an hour I can breath fine again and I may only take my puffer once again the whole day. Any ideas?
(not that i know what one feels like but it seems like i am gonna have heart failure every morning) Why am I saying heart??? Well my reason is because it hurts to breathe from the minute I wake up and last for hours. The more I move the more painful it is and I if I try to touch my chin to my chest its unbearable......

I've been coughing from the beginning and sometimes I cough so much I see lights and bruise my ribs. I've been put on different steriod medicions and inhailors. I wake up every night coughing and having trouble breathing. I feel like I am worse in the morning and evening. I've been told my lung function is lower then it should be and that I do have asthma. I've had extensive pulmonary tests and am even seeing a pulmonologist.
Every month or so, I wake up in the morning with a hacking cough that Proceeds to regurgitation then vomiting. I can't seem to control my body temp- erature. I have to stay in bed, either sweating profusely or shivering. Occasionally, I sneeze after the coughing spell, at least in the first stages. Sometimes, if I take Gravol and lay still, I can get over it but other times the Vomiting can last for a day or more.
Why do I wake up coughing every morning? I do not or have I ever smoked cigarettes.
I am a 66 year old male who has for over 6 months gone to bed and immediately to sleep at around 10-11 PM, and then wake up "every" morning around 4-6 AM, then within 2-3 minutes, start feeling pain behind one or both eyes and an uncomfortable "pressure " feeling in my neck. Please note, that the headache starts a few minutes after I awaken! If I get up, the discomfort goes away in about 5-10 minutes.
( usually gets better as the day progresses
) Approximately five days after the first visit I started to feel like what felt like coming down with a cold. Every morning I would wake up and my sinuses would feel stuffy (similar to what you feel when you first start getting a cold.) I would have very little sneezing every now and then and I didn't think this was much to worry about since many people in my workplace were getting sick.
I was treated with Avelox and since then, things have really gone downhill. Every night I wake up at least twice with severe coughing fits. When I try to take a breath, no air goes in and I make horrible rasping sounds. It feels as if my entire breathing system has shut down. After a minute or two I start breathing normally again, but the anxiety from this has really turned me into a nervous wreck.
gagging and coughing: i have this problem as well but it happens only when i get up in the morning and usually fter my one cup of instant coffee (no food before coffee). i wake up and once i stand up i start the coughing because of all the phlegm in my throat. this causes me to gag and and almost vomit (like dry heaves but ther is mucous production) does anyone now what this is? it is a daily occurence and has been going on for months now. i am absolutely fine the rest of the day!
It feels like all of my air passages become blocked with mucus and I have trouble breathing. Sometimes the coughing is so severe I end up vomiting or I often gag almost to the point of vomiting (It's very exhausting.) It doesn't seem to matter what I eat, and it happens pretty much after every meal.
When I wake up in the morning I feel great, but once I start about my day it gets worse as the day progresses. I am 32 year old female, smoke about half a pack a day, am normal wieght and have had every test with blood work it seems, And everything is normal. I find it's the worse when I am sitting. I also cough and am constantly yawning. One wierd symptom is on my left side right about breast level I am very sensitive there. To push on it feels like it is bruised.
In December I saw my doctor because I was spitting out, usually when I would wake up, blood with mucus present or not. I had developed a very bad bronchitis, that's what was diagnosed after a chest xray. I was on 30 GEN-Amoxicillin (500mg)for 10 days and where the blood ceased. Once I finished the medication the blood in the mucus returned. My mouth every morning is dry and when I clear my throat the mucus comes up followed by blood.
The frequency of my looking for my air in the morning is back to every 2 days. EVERY morning I wake up it feels like an elephant sat down on my chest. I cough like crazy, yet can barely get sputum out. I rasp in the morning all the time and occasionnally at night. I feel sharp pains in my left lung.
At the precise moment I'm about to fall asleep I would sometimes wake up with a start as if I forgot how to breathe for a second. This is a really scary feeling leaving me tired the next day. During the day I do sometimes get mildly breathless too. I of course have seen my doctors on a few occasions. I have a full blood count test, throat swabs, and a chest x ray. All of which came back clear. The doctor listened to my chest with a stethoscope more than once and that also was clear.
