If he truly displays these conditions, he may well require pharmacological treatment, so it is not a good idea to take him off. My question: Every time I sleep, day (as in nap, occasionally) or night, I have strange dreams I can't put a finger on. I'm often very sad anxious and in some type of bad situation. THEN the real problem. I awake in absolute terror. I am pretty much completely dysfunctional for at least half an hour to two hours. The Vyvanse generally relieves it when it kicks in. It's as if my mind falls apart when off it. I never wake up happy to face the day, excited, etc.
My son is 16 and was recently diagnosed (last year) with ADD. I tried to get him diagnosed in 2007 but the psychologist thought he had symptons of ODD but did not diagnose him. Finally after terrible problems at school, (failing, total disrespect for any authority, and severe anger management tantrums at home) I got him on vyvanse. It immediately helped with his grades, but now after a year and on 50mg, behaviors are starting more frequent again.
Hello I'm 29 years old and have been taking adderall for several months and have also found it not as effective. I have (rather my doctor has) upped my dose twice and now take 30 mg twice a day. i have read that if you take tums or a teaspoon of baking soda 45 min before dose that it will make it more potent and last longer so I'm willing to try. Basically if ur stomach is too acidic it will eat up the adderall which is a salt. My medicine not working as well frustrates me bad!

The prior three months I had been prescibed to kolonopins (anti- anxiety) and celexa for slight depression. When I first started taking vyvanse, I literally felt so high, like I was on cocaine. It was great, I felt high, even more sociable which I couldnt shut up, but I stil payed attention. I seem to be getting my work done. However some of the negative effects I have are excessive cigarette smoking, the "NEED!" for redbull/anything with caffeine.
I have been on Vyvanse for a while now. And was worried when they doctor said it was very similar to Adderall XR. But he promised me that the issues I was having with feeling ill, insomnia, and no appitite would lessen on Vyvanse. And that the nasty, gross stimulant feeling I got from Adderall would go away.
And he was right about everything and then some. And believe me if there is a side effect to have I will have it.

What I don't understand is why your doctor didn't explain this to you. Especially if you are prone to anxiety, the not knowing only makes it worse.
My son who is 9 yrs old has started Vyvanse since January of this year. He is currently on about 25 mg of Vyvanse. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it takes a long time to kick in, like about 2.5 hours for my son. So often in the morning he will seem unfocused so will not do well during early 8am test. His doctor and I discussed trying Ritalin first in the morning and then adding Vyvanse, which is the reverse of what many people do.
I have taken Zoloft on and off for some time with no major issues, but my anxiety would increase whenever I started, stopped, or adjusted dosage. Are you on Vyvanse for ADD? I think it is a stimulant and they can defiinitely raise your anxiety in my opinion. I have been on a different one with success, but have you been throwing up before you took the medication?
The difference is that while the Xanax really helps for the anxiety, it is not treating the cause of the anxiety. That is what the adderall is doing. Of course, not positive on that - but anxiety is a very strong co-disorder of adhd. And, I feel it is even stronger in adult undiagnosed adhd. So if you are now treating the possible cause of your anxiety - then that is good. And, I have seen this reported many times with adults.
She understood the Adderall working better for me, and said there had been no need for both Vyvanse and Adderall, although when on those two, I hardly had to take the Klonopin. I thought I functioned better than I have in like I said 30 years suffering with this disease. She said she would not prescribe both, and that I was to stop Klonopin, since it was a downer and Adderall was an upper, and I should not do that. I said ok, but was concerned about it.
I am going to go off Vyvanse due to severe anxiety when crash hits. No dose seemed to fit for me. But, I lost the weight I was needing to lose (20 lbs) and if I go off Vyvanse, will it come back on with a vengance? I have heard hunger just is out of control when stopping this drug. So I am afraid to stay on it and I am afraid to go off it.
I think all that is from the stimulant. I now take Valium for anxiety and it has calmed down a lot of my anxiety and racy feelings and just helps me be kind of happy and mellow, unlike Xanax which just knocked me out. Honestly I am looking for a new Dr. because he is not addressing my issues well and I feel I need to be stabilized on better meds.
All of these tasks in my mind made me feel very scatterbrained, which I incorrectly thought was caused by the Vyvanse. After being on Vyvanse for about 8-9 months, I decided to stop (still continued on the Lexapro). Im 40 years old and this is the only thing that I have been able to try and not feel myself after taking, and I have never had a hard crash after taking it. It was actually GOD sent... So I stopped taking it and now I can tell the difference and struggle a lot daily.
I take 1.5 mg Klonopin + 50 mgs of Vyvanse. I have ADD but the Vyvanse is also prescribed for depression as I cannot take absolutely any antidepressant without incredible agitation. That started several years ago.
