Vyvanse and vocal tics

Common Questions and Answers about Vyvanse and vocal tics

vyvanse

Avatar n tn However, within the past year she has started displaying frequent motor tics and recently vocal tics. Her motor tics started with blinking/rolling her eyes. They have progressed to neck shrugs and hand twists. Lately, she makes a "un" gutteral sound. The vocal tics are occuring as often as 1-2 times a minute. Is there any connection between her early seizures and tics?
Avatar f tn This really hard on him his doctor has tried other medicine to try and controll it and nothing has worked. He started taking vyvanse about a month ago and it doesn't seem like it's working. He is very stressed about going back to school because the kids pick on him for this. It breaks my heart my child has to go through this. Is there a cure for ts? Is there any medication to control it?
Avatar n tn He is very good at keeping in his vocal and motor tics when in public and with his friends but now he cannot do that. His motor and vocal tics are worse than ever. He has lost his voice completely because of the loud vocal tics day and night and his whole body lifts off the ground/bed from his motor tics which occur every 4 or 5 seconds. He is exhusted and so am i as i have to hold him at night and reassure him that he will get better.
Avatar n tn t say for sure, but I think the Intuniv might have been the one that gave my son more tics??? He is 12 and currently takes 50mg of Vyvanse and 15mg Prozac. We just increased both of them as he has been having problems and school and has been oppositional at home. It seems like a few of those meds are treating the same symptoms (abilify, risperdal and intuniv). My son has tried all of them, but not at the same time. Hope you get the help you are looking for.
Avatar n tn TD involves both vocal and motor tics, so that does not sound like what is going on. He is on the young side to evaluate ADHD, simply because development has not yet had a chance to run its course. Your description indicates that he tends to become overstimulated in some situations and then has a hard time settling himself. Is this simply immaturity or indicative of something else? It's hard to say. You might consider going ahead with an evaluation and see what you make of the feedback.
Avatar f tn In order to be diagnosed with tourettes, you must have vocal and motor tics. At least one vocal and at least 2 motor. Motor tics can be anything from tiny twitches in the face to a full on arm throw. Vocal tics can also be anything from simply clearing your throat or yelling something out, or making noises. (correct me if im wrong).
Avatar f tn Your symptoms sound familiar to me (the mother of a 19 year old with Tourettes). It sounds like your symptoms are present enough to merit a screening by a neurologist. Tourettes symptoms can wax and wane. Sometimes being tired or stressed can increase tic activity. If it ends up you do have Tourettes, realize that it means you have had it your whole life. I know it can feel worse to actually have a label put to a nagging hunch, but getting support and help for it can balance that.
Avatar f tn Well, it was not the Lithium that caused the twitching, as I had a Lithium level drawn after stopping it and the Vyvanse, and my level was a little bit low, indicating that it had probably been at normal levels just a day or two before. Now I have a script for Concerta to replace the Vyvanse, I am just waiting on insurance's prior authorization. I am still on the Prozac and am back on Abilify. The twitching slowly subsided, as did the eye pain, nausea, and dizziness.
Avatar f tn He is taking vyvanse now but it is causing him to have hallucinations and very bad tics where he will jerk and shudder and make noises out of the blue and they are getting worse. What does your son take Tenex for? If you dont mind me asking.
Avatar m tn My son still currently has tics but they are related to anxiety mostly. He has two types, simple vocal tics (his making a sound. Complex vocal tics are when they say a word). He also has motor tics. They have changed from time to time. While they are involuntary, he does get rid of something that is embarrassing. The two that have lingered are a hm sound he makes a lot very quietly under his breath and a movement with his fingers.
Avatar n tn s that last for a year or more, but no vocal (sound) tics). Chronic vocal tic disoder is when the sounds last for a year without the motor tics. And, finally, a Tourette's diagnosis requires that the child has had both motor and vocal tics (not necessarily at the same time) for a year or more. There is also a condition callsed PANDAS that occurs after your child has had a strep infection. Tics develop but go away in time from this condition.
Avatar f tn She has an explosion of verbal tics and some motor tics. She knows just enough to know that her tics looks silly to other people so she holds it in for home. I feel so sorry for her. I don't know if this is ADHD, more like ADD I think. Her teachers would laugh me out of the building if I said she had ADHD. I am so confused, just when I think I know most of everything about autism I find out that I don't know the half of it.
Avatar f tn I was recently told i may have tourettes due to vocal and motor tics. The tics include spasming of multiple areas of my body and occasionally making an indecipherable sound. I had these on occasion when I was a kid, but they have worsened over the past year. I also have body pain and lack of coordination that has been getting worse. I also was seen in the er for blurred vision not long ago and this is still a problem even with glasses. Anyone have any ideas?
Avatar f tn Tourette syndrome is an inherited neuropsychiatric disorder with childhood onset characterized by multiple physical tics and about one vocal or phonic tic. The more common tics are eye blinking, coughing, throat clearing, sniffing and facial movements. You could be suffering from this disorder only in childhood considering the vocal noises your parents recall you making.
Avatar f tn Right now taking lithium, vyvanse, buproprion(sp?) clonazepam, tenex (for tics) , his tics seem to be getting worse again and his anger is just out of control. We have tried so many adhd meds (dr.s said vyvanse was the last one they could offer to him) cuz he just can't stop he goes and goes and goes, tried a few different meds for his mood, and some depression meds.
Avatar n tn Thanks for using the forum. I am happy to address your questions, and my answer will be based on the information you provided here. Please make sure you recognize that this forum is for educational purposes only, and it does not substitute for a formal office visit with your doctor. It sounds like you have been suffering from tics. While I can not directly recommend a treatment without examining you and obtaining a history, I will try to provide you with some information.
Avatar f tn s although we are currently investigating possible PANDAS. This is our 3rd year in a row that vocal tics started right after the flu shot. We were told last year it was just a coincidence but after this year he will not be getting any more flu shots.
Avatar m tn I would certainly like to hear more about your experiences as I have strong tics of movement and very vocal
Avatar m tn Yes, one tic may disappear only to be followed by another. Be alert for any vocal tics - it is possible, but by no means probable, that the tics are signalling the onset of Tourette's Disorder (multiple motor tcs and at least one vocal tic).
Avatar n tn Yes, he did have vocal tics and he has had "sniffing" tics also, but they went away and the motor tics remain and seemed to be increasing. He is taking Lamictal and Focalin XR and so far the psychiatrist thinks that it is not Tourette's. We are going to see a neurologist in a couple weeks. Is there any other help out there or something else that we could be doing. Lamictal is for his mood disorder and Focalin is for his ADHD.
969557 tn?1314370614 s to be diagnosed, there must be both motor and vocal tics that occur for over 1 year and start before the age of 18, and are not attributable to other causes. It sounds like your tics are mainly localized to your neck. Abnormal neck contractions maybe tics, but also may be dystonia, it really depends on the nature of your abnormal movements. There are many medications that can be used for tics.
Avatar n tn My 4 year old daughter has been exhibiting vocal tics since she was very young - approx. 2 years old. She would hum bit when watching TV. It was just occasionally that she would do it and she had reflux as a baby so we figured it was due to that. She continued to do it off and on, especially when reading a book to her at night at bedtime. She would make the noise and seem to be very hyper. Now, just recently, she has begun to click her tongue.
Avatar f tn The snorting noise is an example of a vocal tic and, in light of the multiple motor tics in addition, she does meet the criteria for a diahnosis of TD. I would pay no attention to the behavior at all. Focusing on it will serve only to increase any anxiety, and she is too young to make sense of such a condition. Be sure (or her parents should be sure) to arrange an appointment with a pediatric neurologist.
Avatar f tn My younger son age 6 has facial and vocal tics. I have had them tested for many things and still come up with no answers! I feel like I will never get an answer to this. The more I read about immunizations the more I hear of hundreds of children coming down with tics after vaccinations. Does anyone have any new ideas or information. Thanks!
Avatar f tn So I find out my uncle has mild Tourette’s and I look into it and I exhibit quite a bit of the tics that he does and I was wondering if it’s possible that the tics could also just be normal human behavior too? I know it won’t really affect me in life but I just want to know if I have it or not. Also I am always doing a lot of the things that go with depression: questioning life, feeing sad, mood swings, bad sleeping, etc; so I just wanted to know if this is normal in the years of 13-16 or not?
Avatar f tn My now 9yr. old boy has been on risperdal for almost a year and is now experiencing vocal and physical tics. I recently took him off the meds with doctor's approval and his withdrawls are more tics than before. Hopefully after leaving his system we can start him on something else. Was leary about risperdal in the first place and it was good for a while, but every individual is different. It's up to you to decide, but I hoped I helped some. Parent of 9yr.
Avatar f tn Most kids are diagnosed between 3rd and 4th grade, but they would have to have both vocal tics and motor tics for at least one year prior. My kids are now 14 yrs, 10 yrs, 7yrs, and 19 months old. All three older girls have been diagnosed. My third daughter was diagnosed at 3 1/2 yrs old, my oldest at 8 yrs old, and my middle daughter at 9 yrs old. My son has not been diagnosed yet. He doesn't seem to have motor tics yet, but it sounds like he has had a few vocal tics already.
Avatar f tn All my symptoms have been fairly consistent throughout my life; though the movements that I suspect might be tics and my OCD have become milder and more sever occasionally, I've always had them. The movements are not involuntary, but I do get an urge to do them + localized discomfort when I don't do them (e.g. my face feels weird if I don't squint, my wrists feel weird if I don't move my arms).
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with ocd ever since I was a child. 6 years ago I found out I have Tourette's syndrome. I've seen a couple of good doctors but refuse to take any medication. My tics are being worse both vocal and motor tics and my Obssesvie thoughts won't stop. i can hear voice in my head saying and wishing that someone I love will get hurt, and then just to prevent this from happening I do the weirdest tics vocally and phiscially.
Avatar m tn They change all the time. He has had simple vocal tics and complex vocal tics (the simple has remained fairly constant which is a hum when he is trying to sit still). He has had motor tics as well. His motor tics are very much related to either being extremely nervous, feeling on the spot or excited. Do you notice any pattern to your tics? I've been reading a lot about CBD oil (although I'm not sure about vaping it.
