Vytorin off the market

Common Questions and Answers about Vytorin off the market

vytorin

Avatar m tn He took me off the Vytorin and put me on Zocor with same results. After stopping all meds and getting a colonoscopy and blood tests nothing was found. He now states I have IBS and put me on SSRI Citalopram. HELP! This discussion is related to Possible side effect of Lipitor and Vytorin on Liver / Body.
Avatar m tn I used to have a high cholesterol and i have been taking Vytorin for the last 22 days and now my cholesterol is back to normal. However my SGOT increases to 56 and SGPT 100. Is Vytorin causes SGOT and SGPT to increase? Also, i have taken Anti hepatitis 2x. Does this have possibility to increase the SGOT and SGPT?
Avatar m tn The manufacturer of a newer drug may quote research to support the promotional argument, but who pays for the research to be done? Generally, it is the manufacturer of the drug that is being promoted. You can find out if lovastatin is effective for you by having your cholesterol tested after you have been on it for a while. My mother has been on three different statins, and two of them reduced her cholesterol, and one did not. Different statins are effective for different people.
Avatar m tn Someone suggested that I consider inner imaging screening (EBT Hart scan). I am on Lipitor and Vytorin, I was taken off of Benicar two months ago because of the back pain and an elevated CPK 200's. Recent blood test revealed my cholesterol at 118 but my CPK at 205 and still experiencing lower back back pain. My blood pressure is 110/70 to 120/80. No prior hart problems. Do you think I should consider this image screening?
Avatar f tn I'm not much of a researcher, but based on my tests, jon, I disagree. After my bypass surgery, I was prescribed Simvistatatin instead of Vytorin. I think it is an insurance issue. My total cholesterol level jumped 100 points after the six week test, and remains there after the second six week test. I'm back on Vytorin. Simvastation doesn't of course work with the cholesterol produced in our own bodies.
Avatar f tn It can happen that they -Statins - affect the kidneys, at least they did in my case, but at that time I had taken Vytorin for at least a year already and before that pretty much all that what was on the market for another 12 years.
1846163 tn?1331048748 m not quite sure if the contrandication is a result of the Incivek elevating the plasma concentration of the statin or the statin lowering exposure and loss of efficacy of the Incivek but it's one or the other.
Avatar f tn The muscle weakness you were experiencing definitely seems like it was caused by the Vytorin due to the weakness/fatigue resolving after stopping the Vytorin. ALS and Rhabdomyolysis are two completely different disease states but can be mistaken for one another due to the similar presentation of symptoms of muscle fatigue and weakness.
Avatar f tn Vytorin is a statin that lowers LDL and raises HDL. I believe Vytorin is a combination of Zetia and Zocor. I am not sure if the Vytorin will go with the Niaspam so you will need to ask your doctor that.
Avatar f tn i was taking vytorin and plavix when i was told i have cll .
Avatar n tn I am a 46 year old male, 5' 11" and 168lbs. My legs are really bothering me lately. I can do something as simple as crouch down to pick up a toy, get back up and experience that "just worked out" feeling in my legs. Like they're "spent", sort of. Kicking a soccer ball around with my kids for more than a minute -- I really feel that in my legs though I'm not winded. Same thing going up stairs; my legs feel like lead but I'm not winded.
Avatar n tn Several years ago there was a medication, Baycol, that was used to treat high cholesterol, but was pulled from the market. It definitely warrants a little research. Good luck!
Avatar m tn Omega 3 is great for the heart and keeps it healthy and slippery. I would check the Zocor studies or Vytorin studies and if you do not find any information there, check the Lipitor studies. Try not to worry as that will not help and it sounds like it is very minimal. Stress is not good for the heart. Take care.
Avatar m tn Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn Hi again, Regarding vytorin, it is a combo of zetia and zocor. There was a study that said that although the Vytorin will lower the cholesterol, it didn't have good effects to prevent heart attacks. Howeverk, Crestor was shown to reduce plaque and had better results in clinical studies. Also, with the Niaspan, it is known to raise HDL level but HDL is not necessarily protective as they thought. But that study may be skewed because it was done on all cardiac patients.
Avatar f tn s a day now that opanas are off the market until about June or July my pain Dr.
Avatar n tn Since the pain (enough to climb the walls) started at night and I took the Vytorin at night, I concluded, it must be the Statins and I quit taking them and, just as I thought, no more pain. Now I am taking Crestor 5mg's because the cardiologist said, I should be taking them again.
Avatar m tn s are on the power and all predictions are made (build) on the actual market and on the actual price ... all new drugs are price based on the actual treatment prices.
Avatar f tn It was the FDA that stepped in to see if the drug was safe and was instrumental in getting better study results and getting the drug off the market. It was the FDA that issued a Warning Letter to the manufacturer of Vioxx, telling the company to stop certain marketing practices due to "false, lacking in fair balance, or otherwise misleading" claims which violated the Federal Food, Drugs and Cosmetic Act. That is the role of the FDA.
559053 tn?1274913374 s Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA), said Avandia should be pulled from the UK market because of concerns that the drug could increase the risk of heart attacks. They said an independent panel of experts had advised that the risks of the product outweighed its benefits, and that the drug should no longer be sold in Britain. The body said it had sent a letter to doctors in July advising them to consider alternative treatments.
Avatar n tn I have three drug eluting stents in the LAD, two non-drug eluting stents and three drug eluting stents in my RCA. I stayed on Plavix for 1.5 years after the last stent, and been off Plavix for over a year with no restinosis. I do exercise daily, take Vytorin, 81mg aspirin, and follow a healthy heart diet very carefully. So far, no problems with restenosis, but believe me, I think about it every day.
Avatar f tn Thanks for setting a great example for the rest of us. I would love to do as well as both of you... not ony by taking it off but keeping it off. I'm hoping that by the end of the summer, I will be down about 60 pounds (from 295 to 235, I'm 6' 4"). But it's definitely a challenge.
Avatar f tn My family doc first prescribed Magic Mouthwash for thrush, to no avail. The white coating is worse in the morning and after I eat. I drink a lot of water. I talk all day as I am a teacher; it tends to feel like glue inside my mouth at times. I can scrape it out with my fingernail but it just comes back a few hours later. Now my tongue feels rough in the back and up against my palate. Please help!
