Avatar f tn My jack russell terrier was in acute kidney failure last month and is now in chronic. Her blood work, off the charts in some areas, has normalised but her urine showed high protein and she has high blood pressure; she is taking enalapril for both of these. She is on Hills KD and has shown improvement in weight gain, appetite, zest for life, her coat looks fantastic. But I can't seem to control her vomiting for more than a few days.

Avatar m tn s over 7 yrs old-diabetes, kidney disease, and thyroid disease. All 3 of these conditions will also cause weight loss. Kidney disease will cause vomiting. Both thyroid(over active thyroid) and diabetes will cause an excessive appetite. If you decide to take your cat to the vet, please request blood work and a urinalysis to check for these conditions. If you decide to check for diabetes, you should with-hold food from her for 10 hrs before you take her.
Avatar f tn t think a low protein diet will help delay/prevent the kidney disease from progressing and we can switch him to lower protein later if necessary. I wonder if low sodium will help? I have been through kidney disease with one of my fur baby cats and wonder what new treatments are out there now? I'm so worried about the pancreatic node and wonder if this could be the start of cancer.
Avatar f tn National Kidney Foundation guidelines recommend you start dialysis when your kidney function drops to 15% or less—or if severe symptoms caused by kidney disease, such as: shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle cramps, nausea or vomiting is already present. Gradual loss of kidney function is called chronic kidney disease (CKD). People with CKD may go on to permanent kidney failure. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn s gained 10 pounds in fluid in the past week) and he has started to seek rest in places he has never slept in before. He used to lay in the bathroom with his head facing the hallway; now he faces the back wall; today, I found him in between the furniture facing the wall. He also seems so tired and his eyes look sad, with a look of pleading. How will I know when it's time to put Freckles to rest? Again, I do not want him to suffer. But I am selfish and am not ready to lose him.

Her pancreatic function numbers were (Am) 2148 and (LP) 2792. 362203 tn?1248810310 Hi, my best friend suffered from a really bad kidney infection that landed her in the hospital this past Thanksgiving. She was in ICU for 3 days with severe vomiting and high fever (103.0). She now keeps getting kidney infections over and over. Know though she recognizes the signs before it gets too bad. What should she be asking the doctor? I want to help her be more proactive in her treatment. Her doctor said that she just needs to rest and drink fluids and take meds for pain.
Avatar n tn Chronic constipation, sedentary life style building up gas in the gut, inflammatory bowel disease, food rich in sulfites (molasses, dry powder, pickles, tinned shrimp, cookies, crackers, and readymade pie dough), cabbage, raddish etc also cause bloating, nausea and vomiting. Please consult your PCP for primary examination followed by proper referral. Take care!

Avatar n tn Is he still not eating? Is he picking at his food or just not eating at ALL? It's important to call the vet as soon as you notice the kitty isn't eating, please use me as an example. My cat stopped eating but I figured she was eating when no one else was around since she has an aggressive food loving sister and I didn't notice something was wrong until I pet her and realized she was getting really boney.

1346101 tn?1288051949 It can be seen in association with diseases like diabetes, hepatitis, gall bladder disease, pancreatitis, kidney stone or failure. Vomiting can occur as a side effect from various drugs like painkillers both steroids and non steroidal medicines like ibuprofen, antibiotics and bowel obstruction. You have this for 2 years now causing significant weight loss so it needs immediate attention as it could be a chronic infection or pointing towards a bigger diagnosis.
Avatar n tn I think that it is necessary to follow up with your vet and make sure that he has no obstruction or mass in his abdomen causing the vomiting, or something metabolic such as kidney disease, liver disease, etc. Additionally, some eye problems and blindness can be caused by systemic diseases. Your vet may not have all bad news for you.
Avatar n tn Did he run some lab work and urinalysis? Here is an article about kidney disease in dogs and how to manage it long term. It was extremely helpful to me when my dog developed it. The entire article runs about 40 printed pages. http://www.dogaware.com/kidney.
Avatar f tn Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc. Also if nothing is found then food challenge test to detect food intolerance should be done.
Avatar m tn Non steroidals such as Rimadyl are not to be used in kidney patients but depending on how high the kidney values are, I, on occasion will use them if we get a considerable response. We will monitor kidney values via blood tests and decide if the benefits outweigh the risks. At 14 there could be other issues for the poor appetite and if the kidney values are elevated, Sable should be on an acid reducer such as zantac. I wish you and Sable well.
