This is soooo sad. Believe me I have volunteered in Rescue a long time and, elderly cats especially, will wither and die if they are taken to a shelter. They just do not know what is happening the one they loved so much has left them in this place to die? So If you LOVE your furballs, as I know we all do, PLEAS think NOW about making arrangements for them. Do not just leave them. Some have been found in homes after their owner has died and are near death themselves with no food . OH!

We never want our beloved best friend to ever feel they are no longer important and ignore them. That is how elderly cats spend their last days in a Rescue...and it is a troubling thing to see. Senior cats should see the vet once a year for a complete health checkup--diabetes, kidney disease, Hyperthyroidism will sneak up on you as they age and they will need specific meds to help them along.

Definitely something wrong! I agree with everyone! Any time a kitty is vomiting and not eating there is cause to be concern. Especially since it doesn't take long for dehydration to set in, in their little bodies. Good luck! Let us know!

these are caused by feeding dry food and are most common in male cats especially older ones.

we have an elderly cat of 17, he is suddenely much more lethargic than usual, as if in a daze and drooling heavily, we wonder if he may have had a stroke, he experienced something like a seizure couple of weeks ago.

I will not feed salmon to my cats in the future, just in case that is what caused it. He is feeling better now with the antibiotics and is acting totally normal. He has follow-up blood work in three weeks, as this hepatitis can be a lfietime problem. I hope his bloodwork is normal and the bilirubin is down in three weeks.

Too many times people drop these elderly cats off and they sit in a corner day after day just waiting to die, As I write this it brings tears to my eyes. First your friend driving that distance is an angel and I am sure he does not want to see him in any ole rescue. Soo I am going to suggest he do what I did with elderly cats. I went to various Senior citizen homes and asked--begged them to give these gys a chance there.

Cats can most definitely get sick from spoiled food-diarrhea, vomiting, the works. Depending on how serious the vomiting and diarrhea is, it may require immediate medical attention. I wouldn't let vomiting and diarrhea go on for more than a day w/out seeing a vet because dehydration is very very dangerous and requires IV fluids.

How often is normal for kitties to have upset tummies? My cat seems to vomit a few of times a month. Often twice in a day then she'll be fine for a couple of weeks and then again twice in a day. Hi there, Okay, I have a few questions to ask you. How many cats do you have ? How old are they? How long have you had them? We have a cat too who is very good at climbing. You mentioned putting up a baby gate to keep your cats and the dog you're thinking of getting apart. If your cats are as good as my cat as climbing, this won't work. Cats can climb baby gates. We have tried putting a baby gate up at the foot of the stairs. We live in a townhouse.

The symptoms you are describing sound like a type of blood clot that can happen in older cats and/or cats with heart disease. They become unable to move their hind quarters, sometimes completely. You can take her to the vet to see if this is the case. This condition causes extreme pain, fear, and suffering to the animals who endure it. It can go on for quite a while-- not a quiet, quick, peaceful situation for an animal.

and her throw up contained hard cat food that she seemed to not have chewed properly and it also contained some kitty grass that we had bought for her and the other cats a few days ago. She was her playful self after wards. Again she threw up at about 12:00 a.m. but it was like a clear mucous and she threw that up in about 3 different spots of the bedroom and she threw up some of the clear mucous again at about 12:30a.m. after all that she seems sad and she'll walk around but she wont play.

Hi Sparkle, You are pretty wonderful for taking on this elderly cat. These poor cats all too often end up in Rescues where they just wither away alone . No one want to adopt them so they live their lonely days out without the love and care of their human whom they loved. I wondered sometimes if they ever really wanted to continue living without someone to love them one on one. VERY Sad. So now you have this cat who is very lucky to be with you and cared for by you.

also get her some hairball gel at your Vet clinic(not the ones sold in stores) this comes in a tube, squeeze out abt an inch of this and she should lick it off your finger, if she won't than dab it on her paw and she will lick it off...she really really needs to get this everyday by the sounds of it.

He is a very agressive cat, he buillies one of the female cats but never the other one and beats up every other cat in the neighbourhood. He will go through stages of spraying in the house and the stop for a while and then start again. Recently he spray my leg twice and he has never done that before! Does she have abdominal pain? Vomiting bile may be from intestinal obstruction - this is a dangerous situation, well, in this case she would fell vey bad. Does she have any medical history, and why do you think is she vomiting now. If she can't drink, or in intense abdominal pain, you should refer her right to the emergency.
