Vomiting in dogs with diabetes

Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting in dogs with diabetes

vomiting

Avatar n tn There could be problems associated with giving it to your dog without your vet first examining him because if the vomiting is from something serious, such as a blockage or intussusception it could mask the symptoms and this could be fatal for your dog. Also, some breeds, like Collies and breeds that were developed using the Collie could suffer fatal side effects from it. It's just not worth chancing it.
Avatar n tn s the most important thing when it comes to food production (cows, pigs and chicken mostly) and to pets health too because a bad diet causes tons of problems in cats and dogs that go from vomiting to hair loss, anemia and even death.
Avatar f tn Ondanestron, which is the generic for Zofran, is a great medicine for dogs that are vomiting. You can purchase it from a human pharmacy (with an RX from your vet) and it is also generally cheaper than Cerenia. It clears the system in 8 - 10 hours and my dogs are generally over the vomiting and ready to eat at that point. Give it a try - talk to your vet.
Avatar m tn It is not that uncommon for dogs to vomit yellow bile, which is usually a sign of an upset or empty stomach. Dogs will often graze on grass then throw up to help relieve an upset stomach. This can often be remedied by feeding smaller meals more frequently but not more food. Have you changed foods recently? This could be something more serious, of course. Any chance your dog may have ingested something in the house or outside?
1485641 tn?1287974298 I cant say whether or not pesticides are the problem but continued episodes of your dogs vomiting and diarrhea can lead to Pancreatitis which can lead to Diabetes and daily insulin injections. Now is the time to take preventative pet health steps to try to avoid this. My recommendation would be to have your vet run a set of complete blood and urine tests. Then unless the lab tests pinpoint a specific canine health problem, consider a bland home made diet, digestive enzymes and probiotics.
Avatar n tn My question is, Do children normally present the symptoms on a daily basis or can it show up with a matter of 2 or 3 days in between episodes? These with him are bed wetting, extreme hunger , episodes of weakness and severe vomiting with no explained reason. The vomiting only occurs every few days but the other symptoms are daily. He dispalys a few other symptoms but these are the most extreme.
Avatar n tn I agree with Tony.....3 weeks is a long time to be vomiting.....You are risking dehydration which is very dangerous and leads to just more problems......What is she eating? And what treats are you feeding?
Avatar n tn I have had type 1 diabetes for 35 years. I have an insulin pump and good control (though I am brittle) Over the last 3 years I experienced increasing problems with nausea that was diagnosed as gastropariesis. Last year I was hospitalized 4 times when I couldn't stop vomiting for 1-2 days, got dehydrated and DKA. In November, I had a heart attack, angioplasty (4 stents) and it appeared that the nausea was really coronary artery disease.
Avatar n tn Sometimes dogs will produce large amounts of acid if they go too long in between meals. While this is more common in bulldogs, it can happen in any breed. It sounds like this is what is happening with your lab. You can apply a quick fix to this by feeding him a biscuit or two very late at night. This should keep his hunger down and the acid in his stomach to a minimum until breakfast.
Avatar f tn Hello, I need some help. My Min Pin was Dx'd with Diabetes in August 2015. He was very sick but Vet got him stable after 3 days. He was prescribed Humalin-N which cost me $167. I live on a $900 SS income and when the Humalin ran out, I changed to Novolin $25 at Walmart. He has been on it for 4 days. Today I noticed he is drinking much more water and is urinating more. I did a check with the test strips and it read approx. 500 in glucose andbetween 40 to 80 in ketones.
Avatar n tn She has been sick since Sunday and has been diagnosed with pancreatis, which apparently is a common problem in dogs with Cushings. Currently she is in the hospital on IV fluids and IV antibiotics. We are very fortunate to have a very good local vet and her condition does seem improved, but we always have the option of taking her to University of PA veterinary hospital. They are wonderful compassionate people there and have been life savers for some of our other animals.
Avatar n tn On NO account treat your dog with any of the herbs I mentioned in that other post, without fully checking with a vet first, and that would have to be a vet who knows about herbal treatment of dogs. As Ghilly said, many products and remedies which are fine for Humans, can be poisonous for dogs, or indeed any other animal, as their whole systems are different to ours. That includes Herbal remedies. Some are fine, some are not. Only a qualified Herbal Vet would know.
Avatar f tn Sara....my pom with the high liver enzymes is on amoxil for the toxins that had been building in his bloodstream so I would definitely say to keep him on the antibiotic if that is what your vet recommended. I really need to defer to Karla on this but....my pom can only have minimal protein because of the liver shunt. Apparently protein is a big enemy of liver problems.
Avatar f tn superintendant always let her three dogs out with no leashes. they attacked my cat. he was traumatized. since yesterday he is vomiting;alot or a little. i can't afford veterinary care.what can i do. is his vomiting caused by attack,i haven't seen no major injuries.
Avatar n tn However, within 5 minutes of taking the medicine she started to violently throw it back up with continued dry heaving afterwards. So we switched to Clavamax - with more vomiting and then to Amoxicillan - again more vomiting. The violence of the vomiting is less, but she still vomits within 5 minutes of taking any antibiotic. The vet then tried having us give her Gastricalm prior to the Amoxicillan, but that didn't help at all.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with type one diabetes two or three years ago. At that time they said that I had Cushings Disease also. I need to find out any information on Cushings in adults I have looked and I find it is more common in dogs. Can someone please help me??
Avatar m tn Now she is throwing up all night every night. First with a little food in it then bile and foam with horrible retching. It is soooo sad!! After reading about the issues with cerenia I am afraid to give it to her...not to mention I cannot afford it forever....8-( She has always 'burped up' her water after drinking a bit much since she was 6 weeks old. I read about the Ipecac but that is what they used to give kids to make them throw up (when necessary) so how does that work?
1483773 tn?1287798586 Hi, How are you? Migraines usually present with one-sided throbbing headache with associated nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. Diabetes, on the other hand, presents with frequent urination, frequent intake of fluids and frequent eating. Diagnosis of diabetes is through blood tests such as fasting blood sugar. Sometimes, people with diabetes may present with high blood pressure.
Avatar f tn But my fathers dog is 8 1/2 years old terrier mix Chancho was diagnosed with diabetes today and renal failure. I do not know the numbers of his test, but prior to being diagnosed he was real lathrgic vomiting urinating and popping in the house it was uncontrollable. Today when my father took him to the vet he couldn't walk, vet gave him iv for being dehydrated, anti nausea shot, insulin and antibiotics. Said he will re test him in 2 days sent him home with antibiotic and insulin.
Avatar f tn He is a very cute little guy and I love those big ears. I hate to see that he is sick. How long have you had him? Days, weeks, months? If I had to use my best guess here I'd say 1)Diabetes- I know he drinks constantly, does he pee constantly too?, These are 2 symptoms of diabetes along with Lethargy. Vomiting isn't included in the diabetes symptoms but the disease could be affecting your dog causing it to puke. 2)Obstruction.
Avatar f tn Your vet can give you prefilled syringes of antibiotics and can instruct you in giving the antibiotic. Giving needles is not difficult. Owners of pets with diabetes must give insulin to their pets, sometimes for the life of their pets.
Avatar f tn It could be Diabetes, that is usually the first thing to look at with these signs. He could also have a UTI infection, but most male dogs don't get them, but they can get them. If it is diabetes, you would give him a shot twice a day and maybe some pills, if it a UTI, then a round of antibiotis. I hate that as our beloved pets get old they get ill, but so do we. Please let us know what you learn.
