Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting and anxiety

vomiting

Avatar f tn I'm a college freshman and I consume alcohol regularly on the weekends. This past weekend, I drank more than I usually do. Friday night, I drank half a handle of vodka, tequila shots, and beer. I induced vomiting at the end of the night to make myself feel better. The next morning, my stomach wasn't feeling so great, but I ended up drinking again Saturday night. On Saturday, I didn't have as much to drink as I did on Friday, but I got EXTREMELY sick.
Avatar f tn Stress and anxiety certainly can cause GI symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, and even vomiting. You say this has been going on for 5 years, can you elaborate a bit as to what is exactly happening? How often you're vomiting? When it happens? Have you seen your doc to rule out a medical cause? Have you ever sought professional help for your anxiety?
Avatar n tn OK I know, kind of a gross topic. I've been diagnosed with acute anxiety and have had issues with gagging including occasionally enough to make me throw up mildly [as in once and a small amount]. So here's my question. Had dinner Friday nite at wife's parents & on way home felt nauseous. & stomach ache [no anxiety whatsoever]. That nite starting at midnite I was up every hour 'til early morning throwing up until just clear liquid & really strong stomach cramps.
Avatar n tn One doctor suggests the cause is anxiety and should take anti-anxiety medication including lorazepam tablets. But after several times treatment, there is no improvement at all.Could you help to give us some suggestions about this situation.
Avatar f tn In fact it almost seems like constant vomiting and retching and panic and anxiety would be worse for a developing baby. Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get someone to listen to us and help her? Has anyone had to occasionally take a low dose of Ativan for panic disorder while pregnant who has had a perfectly healthy baby? I'm at my wits end and I'm gonna end up in the hospital from stress and worry before this is all done. HELP!
459623 tn?1233188769 Louise, the way you describe it, I guess I would be vomiting too. High anxiety Will make you sick to your stomach and nausated. I think the first thing you need to do is get the heck out of there, someway, anyway.
Avatar m tn To answer my own question, I stopped the paxlavoid due to massive nausea and vomiting. It was pretty bad. However, I found out that you have to separate all your benzo doses from this medication which made everything even worse. I do suggest people take the paxlavoid if they need to but sometimes anxiety is the worst symptom of anything. I am only on a small dosage of klonopin but in order for me to get the most benefit I take it at certain times and this medication did not allow that.
Avatar m tn Yes, my mom has been vomiting everyday for about a month and a half and has fainted during the middle of the day, in the shower, while walking, and in the middle of the night. She just did it again a few minutes ago, so I gave her some ginger ale a water and aspirin and she is now resting (under my close watch). Please anyone out there if you can help please respond. I can't only have one parent.
Avatar f tn Thank you for your reply. I really don't think it's anxiety because I have never felt nervous in the situations when it has happened. All of the times it has occurred have been doing active things such as walking around on a college tour, walking around a city, standing for several hours, etc. Even though it happens every few months, I still think it can be something serious.
Avatar n tn I am 23 years old and I have been experiencing nausea and vomiting for about 5 years. I had my gall bladder removed last year because it was supposed to be causeing this but I am still sick. I have been tested for diabetes but I am not. I was diagnosed with depression when I was in high school and have been on and off meds ever since. Could depression be whats causing my sickness?
Avatar n tn The problem is being scared of vomiting or eating. That is just a phobia and there are hundreds of phobias and lots of people have them. So the important thing is to just focus on getting that fixed. The chances are, once that is fixed, you won't have any more problems. I think if your doctor thought you had an imbalance of something, they would just give you some medicine. But they might think they can fix you with just therapy.
Avatar m tn I suffered from the same exact thing as your daughter!! I never knew there was actually a name for it "emetophobia" thanks nurse girl! Anyways I went through this when I was 15 and in highschool it almost prevented me from graduating because I had so much anxiety about it and would miss school. I realized it all stems from the fear of being embarrassed. I never actually got sick in front of anyone and 20 years later it has surfaced again. So I'm in therapy and trying some meds. ..
Avatar n tn I think there is more to the vomiting than anxiety, and unless all other causes have been thoroughly ruled out........I feel this needs to be further investigated Let us know what all was done to rule out other causes and we can go from there....thanks.
Avatar m tn my sister is 17. She complained of hearing her own heartbeat and feeling nausea during the occurrence. The problem occurred about 2-3weeks ago and has become more frequent. She thinks it's not because of anxiety. It happened during class hours, upon waking up from sleep and while just sitting around doing nothing. She had this headache too accompanying the palpitation. She's not on any meds except for symbicort turbuhaler which she uses twice daily day and night.
Avatar f tn ll have little burst of anxiety which cause diarrhea and vomiting which cause me to miss camp.
5605925 tn?1406235705 My suspicion is a Mallory Weiss tear or some sort of herniation, because after that violent vomiting episode, I began to experience shortness of breath and a lot of trapped burps that I never experienced before. Also severe stomach pain. No blood present in subsequent vomits. I was pending of having an endoscopy, but that same year someone close to me died in the same procedure, so I started having severe PTSD about it. until this day I didn’t manage to get an endoscopy.
82861 tn?1333453911 Maybe I can wrangle my way out of that little solo on the 17th and completely avoid all the perfomance anxiety! Yeah? Maybe?!
Avatar n tn I'm 16 and I have had very bad anxiety for a long time. For little or no reason at all i will suddenly get a panic attack and it can take an hour or two to pass. For the past year i have been under a lot more stress than i was before and in the past few months i have been getting strong pains in my lower abdomen and my stomach has been making loud gurgling noises while or after eating or during a panic attack. Is there anything i can do to help this ?
Avatar n tn i know that the thyroid gland is connected to the adrenal glands- do these control anxiety? sometimes the butterflies wake me up in my sleep and torture me. also, i have to sleep on my back during these episodes, any pressure on the spot right below my chest is very uncomfortable and makes me want to throw up. my primary and gastro have told me i probably have ibs and tell me i need antianxiety medication which i refuse to take because emotionally i am not anxious about anything.
Avatar m tn Hi everybody. I have suffered from SEVERE emetophobia and social anxiety for about four years now. My biggest fear is vomiting and/or having a panic attack in front of my friends or people that know me. In the beginning, I used to be able to "control" my vomiting, I just felt nauseous and anxious when being social, but now it is at the point where every time I do something social I will vomit. I have been on 100 mg of Pristiq for almost 6 months now, and it has helped somewhat.
