I have a shoulder problem and used to be on strong pain killers, but my doctor told me to change to heat rubs!

Lately I have been putting Voltaren gel on my forehead. I'm doing this to soothe pain from inflammation caused by increased circulation from running a lot. Is this ok? I know it takes away pain, reduces inflammation, and increases blood circulation. Also I got the blood flowing through some decadent veins and arteries on my skull. It is really annoying but gets better everyday. What do you think?

ve been having some very bad right shoulder pain, like front shoulder pain. Now I have radiculpathy (I don't know if that's spelled correctly) and normally have shoulder pain in my back, but Im having it in the front of my shoulder towards my chest, instead of my back. I have had a very painful constant pain between my shoulder blades for a day and a half. Years ago I had pleurisy on the linning of my lungs and then two years after that I had it again in my left scapula area. I'm wondering if this is pleurisy again. I have a muscle pain on my shoulder that it doesn't let me sleep. It hurts no matter how I lie to sleep. I have taken some pills that are not strong enough to take the pain away. I think I need the strong stuff like diclofenac and B12 and b6. There is a pills called OKA B that I use to take when having muscle pain and it took pains away. But I've heard that diclofenac is not good to take during tx. Has anyone taken diclofenac during tx or is it too bad for the liver.

my rheumie prescribed and it has helped for muscle pain, joints (knee shoulder neck elbow) and it does seem to help. The gel doesnt cause as much problems for me which is great. It also is a godsend as I cant take nsaids aspirin, etc as I am on bloodthinners.

I was just given Voltaren Gel(diclofenac sodium topical get 1%) for my neck pain(spinal cord nerve damage) and muscle spasms in my shoulders. I've been using it for the past few days and it has worked wonders for the pain in my shoulders. It comes in pill form too and it is geared for arthritis and pain. I was surprised how quickly it reduced my shoulder pain.

Thanks much. Do you recall what "essential enzyme" you took with the diclofenac? I'll also check into the voltaren topical, although my pain in so widespread I don't know if that would be feasible.

You can also put some Voltaren gel on your neck/shoulder area where the muscle pain is. Hope you get better soon!

ve never tried it, but I have tried Voltaren gel, a prescription, which I thought did make a difference. It is very expensive. I also get a compounding gel from a special pharmacy (not a chain). They combine a bunch of things like lidocaine, ketamine and I don't know what else. That actually works pretty well. Any chance you could try either of those?

Two days ago my rheumatologist stared me on Voltaren and I am pain free for the first time in one year....I am afaid to get my hopes up as this seems too good to be true....I know this mediation can be hard on the stomach so I am going to make sure that I always take it with food...so far I feel great all the way around but it is only 2 days....Comments anyone ? ...Thank you..

I do have arthritis in the upper back, worse in my lower back and a slipped disc which is causing leg pain. I currently take neurotin for the lower back pain/ leg pain. I have a really hard time working every day and can't afford to miss work! what would you recommend?

So I've had hip pain for about 7 months. I went to her after months of voltaren, metsal, Celebrex etc and she says it's bursitis and that I'll need steroid injections. If it is muscle how come it only got worse the next day when I stretched? And the voltaren didn't help. Also when I'm working or doing physical activity it kinda becomes numb but the pain comes later on. In the cold it's a focused sharp pain rather than all over. Is this signs of bursitis?

Hi There! There are a couple of non-opiates which are pretty effective. Lidoderm Patches which were originally designed for people who had shingles. It is comprised of lidocaine, the same medication dentists use to numb the mouth. It is out in generic so relatively inexpensive. The second thing is Voltaren Gel...I'm not sure it is out in generic but I've got my mother using it for her RA and other issues and she loves it.

It is a clear gel....little bit sticky...but if you use it daily it really helps a lot. Basically I use the patch for nighttime and the gel for daytime (you reapply every 4 hours or so). Talk to your doc...the patches are generic now so inexpensive...I'm not sure if the gel is generic yet either....but I gotta tell you are worth the money.

I have bone spurs and nerve damage in my wrist. My Voltaren gel works wonders on it. However your pain could be most anything and should be professionally evaluated. I'd suggest that you ask your doctor. I wouldn't let it go too long. The earlier you start treatment, the better.

hmmm....that's what I'm worried about with it. Definately not what I want to find out on my trip. :) I will try it, but jumpy is not what I want to add to my anxiety issues! I also ready that Cymbalta helps with Dopamine and Savella doesn't. And my understanding is that Dopamine helps with pain. Interesting. Sara - I will definately keep you posted on my experience with it. Have you tried Voltaren Gel? I love it!!

Lidoderm Patches (they are generic now) and Voltaren Gel. The Lidoderm works by letting small amounts of the same numbing agent they give you when they work on your teeth. You can wear 12 hours on/12 hours off. The 12 hour off the Voltaren Gel would work also. Hope that helps!
