Common Questions and Answers about Voltaren gel no prescription

Avatar n tn Many arthritis sufferers are in a panic over the shortage of Voltaren gel (diclofenac sodium gel) and I get why they are worried. Voltaren gel is a prescription topical anti-inflammatory gel used for all kinds of arthritis pain: rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, and osteoarthritis of the knees, hands and hips. People who have stomach issues from taking anti-inflammatories by mouth can bypass that problem with Voltaren gel.
Avatar f tn Lately I have been putting Voltaren gel on my forehead. I'm doing this to soothe pain from inflammation caused by increased circulation from running a lot. Is this ok? I know it takes away pain, reduces inflammation, and increases blood circulation. Also I got the blood flowing through some decadent veins and arteries on my skull. It is really annoying but gets better everyday. What do you think?
Avatar m tn The FDA just announced that dicoflenac gel (brand name Voltaren Gel) often prescribed for arthritis pain is linked to severe liver damage and it can happen within the first month of use According to the FDA, this topical gel has been reported to cause liver necrosis (death of liver cells), jaundice, and liver failure some cases of which have required liver transplant and some that have been fatal! Despite these horrible side effects, dicoflenac gel remains on the market.
655875 tn?1295695107 ve never tried it, but I have tried Voltaren gel, a prescription, which I thought did make a difference. It is very expensive. I also get a compounding gel from a special pharmacy (not a chain). They combine a bunch of things like lidocaine, ketamine and I don't know what else. That actually works pretty well. Any chance you could try either of those?
880900 tn?1467270141 ......here in NZ we go into a supermarket or pharmacist and buy it.......pretty damn easy actually!! Yep it works but only on shallow muscular pain. Anything more "deep-seated" seated use 50mg Enteric Coated voltaren......doesnt upset your stomach and NO your'e not going to die of a heart attack because of it (a lot of nonsense talked out there around this),,,,,but hey what you will notice is a reduction in pain!! yah.
Avatar f tn I have a shoulder problem and used to be on strong pain killers, but my doctor told me to change to heat rubs!
230262 tn?1316645934 I was just given Voltaren Gel(diclofenac sodium topical get 1%) for my neck pain(spinal cord nerve damage) and muscle spasms in my shoulders. I've been using it for the past few days and it has worked wonders for the pain in my shoulders. It comes in pill form too and it is geared for arthritis and pain. I was surprised how quickly it reduced my shoulder pain.
Avatar n tn //www.drugs.com/voltaren-gel.html. Diclofenac is voltaren and the gel contains the Nsaid. This information states clearly that aspirin should not be used at the same time. Normally, blood thinners are also not used with Nsaids. So, speak with your doctor, of course, but would advise not to use these together based on the provided information.
Avatar f tn I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has been taking Voltaren...I have been thru the mill with Suprytz knee injections, full series of epidural spinal injections, many trials of anti inflams, physial therapy etc. etc (all to no avail)... Two days ago my rheumatologist stared me on Voltaren and I am pain free for the first time in one year....I am afaid to get my hopes up as this seems too good to be true....
Avatar n tn t always easy doing it, would make my hips feel better the rest of the day,) ibuprofen, lidoderm patchs or a prescription gel, like the Voltaren gel. My joint pain generally responds to heat better than ice (though lately I've been having trouble with bursitis in both knees and ice seems to work best for that.) Hope tomorrow is a better day for you.
Avatar n tn I know how bad it can be. I had a joint replacement in my left thumb but the implant failed and wound up having 9 surgeries, countless meds, procedures, etc. I don't know if you've tried glucosamine chondroiton. It can help rebuild cartilage if you haven't gone too far. It was too late for my hands but it may be helping other spots I have. What kind of doctor are you seeing? I get some relief from a prescription gel called Voltaren.
Avatar f tn A nurse friend gave me a sample of Voltaren gel and it worked great. I asked my surgeon about it and they gave me some samples and a prescription. (It' expensive, around $200 a tube. Now I use a compounded cream prescribed by my PM nurse practitioner. It has about seven different things in it. I know 2 of the ingredients are ketamine and lidocaine but I can't remember the rest. (This also runs around $200.) I find this works a bit better than the Voltaren.
Avatar n tn I also use Lidoderm patches, which are a prescription. Voltaren gel is another prescription and I alternate that with the lidoderm parches. My doctor also wrote a prescription for a compounding cream. I getit for the RSD but use it for the arthritis as well. Mine has Fentanyl, Baclofan, gabapentin and a few other drugs. I am sensitive to a lot of medications so this is a good alternative. I have also done a bunch of procedures and some physical therapy and occupational therapy.
Avatar f tn I have an unopened bottle of voltaren eye drops with an expiry date of October 2010. I just ran out of the Voltaren I am using and have a new prescription to get some more and don't have the money at this time to fill it. Would it be safe to use this unopened bottle as I have read that most medications are really good for 5 years after expiry and drug companies just put the expiry dates on so people will throw them away.
Avatar f tn There's also a prescription gel, Voltaren, & Lido derm patches. I was on huge doses of most narcotics but got very little relief from the CRPS/ rsd pain. I've got some relief from nortriptyline. I tried PT & OT & other procedures but no relief from them either.
Avatar f tn does an orthopaedic boot support both knee and ankle? I use Voltaren gel and take Tramadol twice a day.
Avatar f tn Lidoderm Patches (they are generic now) and Voltaren Gel. The Lidoderm works by letting small amounts of the same numbing agent they give you when they work on your teeth. You can wear 12 hours on/12 hours off. The 12 hour off the Voltaren Gel would work also. Hope that helps!
Avatar m tn ve tried all kinds of anti-itch medication as well as 1% hydrocortizones. Nothing works on this itch. I mean no oils, lotions, body wash. I want to go to dermatologist and beg for a cream that's powerful enough for extremly dry skin. I mean dead skin literally falls from my scrotum constantly. The itching is so bad that the skin on my scrotum is left with scabs and open sores. The itching is also inside my anus area. Can any Doctor help?
Avatar f tn ve found that a combination of Aleve (naproxen) and voltaren gel helps take the edge off of the pain. Voltaren gel is an anti-inflammatory gel that you would rub on your hands. It contains diclofenac, a strong prescription anti-inflammatory medication. You could ask your doctor about it to see if it will help in addition to the steroid shots. I haven't had the steroid shots in my hand before so I can't comment on that but someone else may be able to.
Avatar m tn I have a muscle pain on my shoulder that it doesn't let me sleep. It hurts no matter how I lie to sleep. I have taken some pills that are not strong enough to take the pain away. I think I need the strong stuff like diclofenac and B12 and b6. There is a pills called OKA B that I use to take when having muscle pain and it took pains away. But I've heard that diclofenac is not good to take during tx. Has anyone taken diclofenac during tx or is it too bad for the liver.
Avatar m tn ve done / am still doing PT, ICE, Tens, Heat, voltaren gel and I still have no long term relief. I have had one cortisone short 9 months ago and it worked for a short period of time. Here are the findings of the MRI (actual summary attached) 1. Moderate sized left elbow joint effusion. Effusion is swelling within a joint. 2. There is a 12mm sized area of edema involving the common extensor tendon, compatible with lateral epicondylitis. Edema is swelling that occurs outside a joint.
Avatar f tn Hi There! There are a couple of non-opiates which are pretty effective. Lidoderm Patches which were originally designed for people who had shingles. It is comprised of lidocaine, the same medication dentists use to numb the mouth. It is out in generic so relatively inexpensive. The second thing is Voltaren Gel...I'm not sure it is out in generic but I've got my mother using it for her RA and other issues and she loves it.
