Avatar n tn The medical profession [if they really do want smokers to quit] might want to consider giving smokers what they actually crave in a prescription of B complex vitamins [B3, B6 and B12] The strategy could do more to get smokers to quit than the billions wasted to date, teaching the rest of us to hate them.
Avatar f tn I found out yesterday i am 5 weeks. I am trying so hard to stop. But i have to. But a friend of mines dr told her to rather cut down than to stop completely as the shock to her body can be do big. Has anyone heard of that?
Avatar f tn Are any of u ladies smokers and if you are how often do you smoke daily? I'm a smoker and it's a lot harder to quit than I thought it was going to be and I am worried about what it's going to do to the baby, I'm 28 weeks and 2 days.
Avatar f tn Among the subset of patients with available data, there were 893 smokers (31.3 percent) and 1966 nonsmokers (68.7 percent). Cigarette smokers with HCV genotype 2 and 3 had lower SVR than nonsmokers. However, SVR rates among smokers and nonsmokers with HCV genotype 1 were not significantly different. The lower SVR rates observed in smokers with HCV genotype 2 or 3 were not accounted for by stage of fibrosis, gender or pretreatment viral load.
Avatar f tn Thank y'all for the help & support!!
Avatar f tn Any other mommy's having a hard time quitting ? As much as I tell myself I need to stop, I just can't do it.
Avatar m tn What vitamins and minerals are good for eye health and what are the optimal amounts? As far as I know, Vitamin A, beta carotene, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, zinc, lutein, and billberry are good for eyes.
Avatar f tn Maybe you have already tried this but maybe gum or hard candy will help too. It helped my grandma when she had to quit for her knee surgery. She had to have replacement and she hasn't picked it back up 4 years later yet :) Best of luck!!
Avatar f tn t think I could have smoked during tx anyway as my senses were so acute then, especially smells. My Dr. never mentioned about quitting during tx, just the overall recommendation for quitting healthwise. Anyway, I finally kicked it and feel all the better for it. Plus a good chunk of change more in my pocket.
4658567 tn?1364142123 If something were wrong with your baby how would you feel if you knew it could've/ might have never happened had you not smoked? I ask this because I'm asking myself this right now!!
168006 tn?1241012961 Thank you so much for that info. I will definantly give that a try.
4241272 tn?1357571660 i used to smoke 2 packs a day , gross . & i felt the same way, like how come i'm still craving ciggs when i'm pregnant ? what worked best for me was lolly pops & keeping my hands busy with an elastic . i still crave them , but i've only had a few in the past couple of weeks , which i allow myself because quitting cold turkey is way easier said then done. it would actually make me sick to not smoke.
Avatar n tn I do not believe that only smokers get it, because in all actuality only 25% of all smokers do. Quitting smoking does help tho, keeps it from progressing in a fast manner. They simply do not know, and are guessing, and my guess is Yes!
Avatar m tn About 87% of lung cancer deaths are thought to result from smoking. The risk for lung cancer among smokers is many times higher than among non-smokers. The longer you smoke and the more packs a day you smoke, the greater your risk. Cigar smoking and pipe smoking are almost as likely to cause lung cancer as cigarette smoking. Smoking low-tar or "light" cigarettes increases lung cancer risk as much as regular cigarettes.
Avatar f tn SIDS as well as second hand smoke dangers to you and you baby are important considerations in maintaining health for both of you. There are good prescription options for quitting smoking if your husband is willing to discuss them with his doctor. Chantix has had great success and well as Wellbutrin and quitting will keep him healthier for his baby too. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Either way, effecting sperm or not, quitting bad habits is what's best for you, and your family if you're TTC, that means, eating healthy, no smoking, cigarettes, or drugs, at all, exercising, being in the best health you can be in, and taking prenatal vitamins before you start. So if you're planning on starting, or expanding your family, it's best to make it a healthy family first!
Avatar f tn Good for you on quitting. You said you smoked for over 30 years so it will take time for your lungs to improve. You should go see a pulmonary doctor to rule out COPD/Emphysema and asthma. The doctor will give you a breathing test to see if this may be affecting your breathing. If so, proper treatment can get it under control. I found quitting cold turkey worked best for me. No patches or meds as this just makes it harder to cleanse yourself from nicotine.
Avatar f tn No one likes nagging, especially smokers. In fact, it may discourage them from quitting or even thinking about attempting to quit. Try your best not to nag before and during your parent’s quit. LISTEN: Smokers want to know they’re being heard and even if they say things you don’t necessarily agree with, try to hear them out. Instead of talking at them, ask questions and listen to their side of the story. DISREGARD FEELINGS: If you don’t smoke, you may think quitting is easy.
Avatar n tn Sounds like you could also be having some anxiety from quitting smoking also. That will pass. I would make sure your sugar wasn't high also. Make sure you don't eat too much as a replacement for smoking. Keep busy and stay away from smokers for now. Congratulations on quitting!!
Avatar f tn Musesgirl, the only people that day its better to taper off are smokers who are having a hard time quitting. I am NOT judging you. I was a smoker until the second I found out I was pregnant. I stopped cold turkey. It wasn't even that hard knowing I would be harming my baby if I didn't. You can do it. Trust yourself and your already developing mommy instincts. That nagging guilty feeling is cause you know its not healthy.
429700 tn?1308007823 My mother drank alcoholically, smoked, and took amphedimines while pregnant. I was full term at a little over 4 pounds. My Doctors think this set up delicate immune system. Three adults in my family smoked heavily around me growing up. My mother used to blow smoke in my face and watch me choke as I used my asthma inhaler. She thought it was funny. I tried to smoke in high school but the asthma prevented it.
Avatar f tn I hate to be the bearer of negative news, but I thought I'd share some more tidbids I learned from Dr. Jensen (U of Chicago, Dir. of Liver Diseases) at a recent seminar: Smoking as little as 5-7 cigarettes per day interferes with ribaviron and interferon's response. That sure seems to make a case for at least cutting way down on the number of cigs smoked per day. Man, it is not easy to quit smoking.
