Avatar f tn I am just curious about what vitamins and supplements everyone has found to be useful during recovery? I'm a month off tramadol so I'm past the withdrawal stage and trying to get back to "normal" brain function. Any advice on supplements and vitamins is much appreciated.
Avatar m tn s normal functioning, which includes absorption of certain nutrients. B vitamins are also essential co-factors for producing the neuro-transmitters the Lexapro is acting on, so they should aid its functioning without increasing its functioning. Same with omega-3 oils, as anti-depressants often cause weight gain and increased cholesterol, which is aided by omega 3 oils, and they also aid brain function, particularly fish oil (DHA).
Avatar f tn Women's One A Day prenatal vitamins have DHA and were the ones my doctor recommended.
Avatar n tn Any nerve for that matter if it is completely degenerated cannot be regenerated, but there are certain vitamins which can improve the function of nerves and nervous system. Nervous function and muscular coordination requires the presence of B vitamins along with the vitamin E in good quantities within the body, any resulting or existing deficiencies in these vitamins will ensure weaknesses to overcome the musculature.
Avatar f tn So, it seems to me that it cannot hurt to go ahead and take some supps for my nerves ( already take them for circulation ). So, besides the B vitamins, what works good for the nerves? I've read that Omega 3's are good. Please chime in for nerves, circulation or whatever!
Avatar m tn I know you take a lot of meds for chronic illness. Can you try to get some B vitamins down? They really help brain function. I know the nightmares are awful...I've had some real screamers myself! xo V. P.S. Are you back to driving your car?
Avatar f tn Get your kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests done because these affect the electrolyte balance in the body. Stress, alcohol, caffeine and fatigue all cause similar symptoms. Certain sleep disorders and peripheral nerve disorders due to diabetes or hypothyroidism can also be the cause. Yes, if you had neck injuries in the past, a neck MRI should be done to rule out spinal nerve compression. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn Is this particular mind-body relationship noted in the literature? Are there remedies? I take vitamins and brain-specific supplements including gingko, juvenon and CoQ, and I do daily aerobic exercise.
Avatar f tn I looked at human nutrition for low thyroid and it was suggested to take the B vitamins. Can I or should I give this to my dog? If so, can I give a human pill and at what dose?
865758 tn?1285952904 s myself and have been contemplating this as well. I have an MD that I go to for IV infusions for vitamins and minerals.....well he keeps talking to me about this say how good it would be. There are soooo many benefits to Iodine. BUT......my thought is: If my thyroid was completely burned out by the antibodies, I would not hesitate in trying it. I still have some function left and fear aggrivating these antibodies more than they already are!
Avatar n tn Surgery will cause severe deficiencies of vitamins (especially B vitamins, important for brain function), minerals, and enzymes. Has she had a metabolic panel done recently (blood test), to check for deficiencies?
Avatar n tn If you were to do this, you should take a folic acid supplement. The folic acid is so important for the brain development of your baby. Congratulation on you pregnancy! I hope this helps.
1808884 tn?1324345703 good information, the only caveat is as Long as thjeres no Kidney,or severe liver problems. The protein/Amino acids build and restore brain chemicals and hormones,as narcotics, especially opiates and cocaine/methamphetamines depleet Dopamine,Seratonin, Noriphenrine-spellind and Acetycoline.Thats what known as (Post acute Withdrawls) the brain of a recovering alcoholic/addict can take between 1.5 to 2yrs to be Biologically healthy, but dont dispear in the first 3-months people usually are 70% better.
Avatar f tn I have even heard that SAM-E can help. B vitamins are essential for proper brain function as well. If there is hyperactivity involved, magnesium is very relaxing and may help. I hope that you continue to try the no-medication route. Being placed on prescription stimulants for ADHD at 6 years old and being on them for years has left me with disabling, treatment-resistant depression.
Avatar f tn Be careful with Vitamin A -- too much is bad for the liver. Better to take it in the form of betacarotine, which will only give as much A as you need and flush the rest. But A isn't the main nutrient for the eye, it's one of many. Again, the eye requires many nutrients. It requires essential fats, it requires colored veggies, especially dark green ones for lutein, the main carotenoid for the eye, it requires just a ton of nutrients.
Avatar m tn B vitamins are crucial to mental clarity and brain function. It improves mood and outlook. Adding a B Complex tab to your daily regimen of supplements may help. Consider also that naturally occuring substance in our systems called SAM-E (S-adenosyl methionine). It can not only strengthen brain function and emotional well-being, but it is also a necessary component to our joint health. More and more in this day and age we end up with less and less SAM-E in our system.
Avatar n tn Liver dysfunction (get liver enzymes done—liver function test), kidney dysfunction (get kidney function test done), and anemia can make a person appear drunk. Poor sleep pattern and sleep problems like sleep apnea too can cause brain fog. Sleep studies by sleep specialists can help diagnose this. Low Vit D or Vit B12 too could be the cause. From you symptoms alone it also sounds like chronic fatigue syndrome.
1225178 tn?1318980604 m glad or sad that it took you 12 months to deal with it. I need my brain for my job... have already been out of the loop for a year and really NEED to get back into it ASAP. I guess I'll just have to accept whatever comes along. DARN!

Avatar m tn If your body is unhealthy, then the mind will be as well. All the vitamins, minerals protiens etc. that the body needs, so does your brain. If your body is lacking the proper nutrients, then it also lacks the essential amino acids that the brain needs to make and maintain the chemistry (neurotransmitters) levels it requires.
1559533 tn?1308948561 These attacks last a day or two but do not allow me to function Im only good for walking to the bathrom and even driving to my childs school and back is difficult. I feel hopeless and dont know where to go or what to do. The only help that has been offered is an antidepressant. I have been depressed but the symptomps do dont come with saddness. Its frustrating because the motivation to go and do is their but my body will not allow it.
1831528 tn?1317984379 If you see a brain scan of a healthy person the brain looks nice and solid. For someone on meth it looks like swiss cheese. There is no way you can begin to get mentally better while on Meth. It may get you out of bed, but it is slowly eating away your brain. Dr. Amen does research on this and his book is called Change your Brain, Change your Life. In there he shows the brain scans of people on drugs. It is quite scary.
