Avatar m tn Even if there is no direct interaction between Plavix and Vitamin K, is it known whether vitamin K will still act to promote clotting in the presence of Plavix?
Avatar m tn Vitamin K is an essential vitamin but too much can be toxic to the liver. Vitamin K2 has shown more benefits to the liver, particularly in the area of fibrosis, also known as MK7, you can read more about it on the life extention web site. I think the verdict is out on whether this is a good thing or not for liver patients, and especially while on tx the risks may outweigh the benfit..
Avatar f tn According to recent findings, the benefits of vitamin D, in terms of bone strength and cardiovascular health, are greatly enhanced when combined with vitamin K. Vitamin D improves your bone health by helping you absorb calcium. However, it is vitamin K that directs calcium to your skeleton, to prevent it from being deposited in the wrong areas. Vitamin K2 activates a protein hormone called osteocalcin, produced by osteoblasts, which is needed to bind calcium into the matrix of your bone.
Avatar f tn If you are afraid of not having enough, you can explore taking vitamin K supplements yourself. Vitamins are better absorbed through food though, for Vit K try eating salads, broccoli, and cauliflower. There may be more, but those are the ones that come to mind off of the top of my head. Avatar f tn Just got an email from the np that said she had talked to the doctor and wants to put me on Vitamin k 10 mg daily. I gave her the pharmacy number and asked her to send me the lab results. Still waiting to hear back. Have any of you had to do this before? What is the Vitamin k used for? Thanks!
29837 tn?1414534648 Last night on 20/20, they were shouting the benefits of Vitamin D. My doctor insists I stay on a supplement of 800mg daily, even though I take a daily multiple vitamin with 400mg Vitamin D. This brings it up to 1200mg daily. Research has shown it helps the body in many ways. However, be careful of too much Vitamin D. Below is a snippet from the informative link... Avatar f tn To prevent unwanted side effects, avoid vitamin supplements that contain mega amounts -- more than 100 percent of the recommended daily allowance -- of particular nutrients and those that promise miraculous benefits.
Avatar m tn Foods alone cannot meet our vitamin needs for optimum health. Vitamin supplements are the solution, not the problem. Good health is not about the vitamins you excrete; it's about the vitamins you retain.
Avatar n tn To get back to the original post, I was wondering if it is Ok to take vitamin K supplement. I can't seem to find the research I read that taking vitamin A and vitamin K supplements is harmful. But I'm suddenly not very sure. I'll look for it later. Avatar f tn I have read of using a constant daily low dosage (100mcg) of vitamin K to resolve INR instability the theory being that the instability may be due to a vitamin K deficiency and the constant dosage gives a bias level for the coumadin to work against. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?

Avatar m tn spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts) are rich in vitamin K, which can affect your INR. Don’t avoid vitamin K-rich foods completely — vitamin K is essential to our health. Studies show that eating regular, consistent amounts of vitamin K-rich foods is better for maintaining a stable INR, than not eating them at all, or eating varying amounts.
Avatar f tn My only experience is Warfarin (generic Coumaden) for about 15 years. I'm at 5 mg daily, and 7.5 mg a couple of times a week. I am always in the 2-3 range, and guess Warfarin would hold be at 2.5 + if I took 7.5 mg a day. I am not suggesting a dose change, just sharing experience. I eat green vegetables/salads often and it doesn't seem to make any big change.

Avatar f tn How do you feel about the vitamin K shot? Are you going to give it to your new born?
Avatar f tn I think those who are opposed to a vitamin K shot for baby should do more research. Vitamin K can prevent a bleeding disorder, not blood clotting. Vitamin K aids in the ability of blood to clot, which is why it is given to newborns as a preventative measure. A lactation consultant friend sent me a link to an article, which includes statistics, about this very debate. http://evidencebasedbirth.
