Avatar m tn Insofar as taking vitamin D3 supplements, my feeling is that you should have an inexpensive D3 level test performed before taking supplements. A so-called "normal" level is 30 on the test. 3000 IU per day is not excessively high. Patients are often given 50,000 IU in a once weekly supplement. Excess vitamin D3 can cause alterations in blood calcium, although that would be unlikely at the dose you have recommended. My guess is that the tiredness is related to the hepatitis.
233622 tn?1279334905 Yes, vitamin D3 levels are very important in MS. First, the role of D3 is to act like a hormone that modulates the immune system. Back in 1997, it was found that when mice were given D3, they did not develop the mouse model of MS. As studies have progressed, the evidence strongly points to the role of D3 in preventing MS. That seems to be the link in the statistics that show that there is less MS as you get closer to the equator.
Avatar f tn About half-way through my prescription, I started to feel worse, so I read more about vitamin D and started to supplement daily with co-factors (Mg, K, etc) and D3 about 1.5 months ago. My symptoms (confusion and fatigue) improved again after starting the co-factor supplement. I mostly do not notice any symptoms now. I get re-tested next week for vitD levels. Glad to hear you're feeling better and are getting good sleep!

Avatar n tn I tested my vitamin D level. What do my results mean? I just picked the last two levels since the article is very long.... "My level is between 100-150 ng/ml Although these levels aren’t toxic and aren’t usually harmful, they are thought to be too high. There are no known benefits to having a vitamin D level over 100 ng/ml.

3221216 tn?1373640059 The research showed the various pathways that vitamin D3 uses, showing the antiviral properties of vitamin D3 particularly during interferon treatment. Researchers noted that vitamin D3 combined with interferon alfa has a synergistic relationship (the drug interactions are magnified, in this case in a beneficial way). Also noted was that vitamin D3 combined with interferon alfa decreases viral production more than interferon alfa without vitamin D3.
Avatar f tn Lately, we considered multiple doctors and made him go through a lot of tests (LFT, KFT, Ultrasound of abdomen region, blood tests, CECT, Vitamin B1 and Vitamin D3 test). Mostly all tests came out to be normal, else than Vitamin tests where his B12 is 240 and D3 is just 22. The doctor recommended giving him Calcerol (60,000 IU) every alternate day. But he still feels the same.
15848200 tn?1456634289 Vitamin D2 causes the amyloid protein in your brain to clump together making it difficult to remove this build up of amyloid. This leads to loss of cognitive function and sets up the conditions for Alzheimer's disease progression. Vitamin D3 helps clear amyloid from the brain which aids in improving cognitive function. Keeping 25(OH)D3 levels at or above 50ng/ml [US] or 125nmol/l [UK] is an important factor in reversing cognitive decline.
Avatar m tn Well - taking too much vitamin D3 can cause hypocalcemia, or low blood calcium. The established norm is 30 in the tests, but many physicians recommend 50. There is a relationship between D3 and calcium. Generally when a patient has low D3 they prescribe a once-a-week 50,000 IU dose. Taking a minimum of 1000 IU a day is a good idea. A glass of milk a day and a normal diet will do the job. When there is insufficient calcium intake the body needs the calcium and tends to take it from the bones.
Avatar m tn There are several forms of Vitamin D and we need to take Vitamin D3. Your doctor will tell you how much to take. Vitamin D3 is especially important in helping your bones stay strong.
Avatar m tn For very low Vitamin D levels a once a week D supplement.of 60000 IU of Vitamin D3 for 8 weeks is prescribed by many doctors. Some will provide 50,0000 D2 for 8 week one a week. Your level is tested again at 8 weeks at D is 50+ then you will probably be prescribed 600 IU to 1000IU a day after that. This was my experience That's one of the reasons other test should be done before prescribing Vitamin D Just in case you have another problem causing it;..
Avatar m tn Hi, welcome to the forum, few of the individuals are known to be allergic to vitamin D. Other possibilities are excess of vitamin D or lack of vitamin D is also associated with allergy. Other possibility is you may allergic to any other components of the formulations. But the cause for such event is not clear but many theories have put forth. In such cases Vitamin D containing food should be avoided like fortified milk, fatty fish and fish oils.
Avatar n tn I'm taking 1,000IU of vitamin D3 daily at my Endo's request. She was quite specific about D3, not any ohers. I'm also getting 800IU of vitamin Dsomething in my multivitamins. She doesn't know that, but I tested low on vitamin D after taking the multivitamins for a year so I figure her suggestion couldn't hurt. I haven't had any problems. Sorry to hear that you are. You need the vitamin D3. Read up on it. It does a few important things.
Avatar m tn The RDA was miscalculated according to peer-review and needs to be closer to 10 000 IU daily (of vitamin D3). As for getting to sufficient levels, 20 000 IU is perfectly fine. It's quite safe to take long term even. But, personally, I'd take 20 000 IU daily for about 45 days and then reduce to 10 000 IU daily for maintenance.
Avatar f tn I tried to take vit d3 in a liquid form (dropper) 1,000 mg a day due to d3 deficiency two different times. Both trial periods, I felt weak, dizzy with heart palpatations. Have u ever heard of this reaction to d3?
