Avatar m tn After I my thryoid totally removed (along with one parathyroid) and had I 131 treatment in Sept of last year, the doctor put me on 5000 units of Vitamin D 2000mg of Vitamin C per day. Avatar f tn Hello The symptoms you have mentioned are suggesting excess of Vitamin D or calcium. The cut off level for toxicity of vitamin D level in blood differs according to different studies. The US endocrine society says that it is >150 ng/ml while Institute of medicine say it is >50 ng/ml. In the presence of symptoms I consider this value of 94 as toxic level. I would suggest you to get serum calcium, phosphorus and urinary calcium done.

Avatar m tn Authored by a team of researchers at the California-based non-profit Autoimmunity Research Foundation, the paper goes on to point out that molecular biologists have long known that the form of vitamin D derived from food and supplements, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-D), is a secosteroid rather than a vitamin. Like corticosteroid medications, vitamin D may provide short-term relief by lowering inflammation but may exacerbate disease symptoms over the long-term.

For the past 80 years it was believed that vitamin D3 was only important to the body for regulating calcium and protecting the bones. However hundreds, if not thousands, of studies now show this vitamin (technically a steroid hormone) plays a vital role in health. Vitamin D deficiency seriously impacts 32 organs especially the heart and bones.

You should be able to find some archived newsletters on the site, too. Just Google "Vitamin D Council". It is a good idea to build up to it, as the above post says.
