5143317 tn?1383747820 I had my vitamin d tested about 2 months ago and my level was 36ng/l with a range of 30-100. I've been having crazy hypothyroid like symptoms for months. Weight gain, inability to lose weight, depression, mood swings, inability to control my emotions, low sex drive, dry skin, not sleeping good, etc. Could the low end vitamin D be causing the symptoms? I've had cortisol, various hormones and all thyroid tests, everything is normal.
Avatar m tn I have sent a prescription to your preferred pharmacy and have placed an order for your follow-up test at the lab. After you reach a normal level of vitamin D, you will need to increase your maintenance dose by about 1000-1200 IU/day, which we can discuss after your next test. Please call my office if you have any questions". Is this recommendation standard? How come he didn't mention taking D3 supplement?
Avatar m tn The lab work reported low Vitamin D and high serum iron. Should I be concerned about this? I will be starting RX vitamin D supplementation and wil be getting a DEXA scan to confirm the osteopenia. Should I get additional labs done if so which ones?
649848 tn?1534633700 I asked my pcp for a lab order to get my calcium, vitamin D and PTH tested. He refused, saying that it was totally unnecessary (typical of this doctor). I know a lab near my house that will test the calcium without a lab order - it just won't be covered by insurance because the insurance co. requires us to use a specific lab. For $35, I'm not concerned about that... I found an advertisement for a "blood spot test" that I can order online.
460348 tn?1213452322 My calcium was normal like yours but since my Vitamin D came back so low my doc took another round of blood and sent it off to the lab to check my parathyroids. He said depending on what that test showed would determine how he would treat it. When the results came back I did not see the report, he just called me. Said my "stores" were low and I just needed to build them back. Maybe talk to your doc and ask if that number is okay to have?
Avatar f tn I asked my doctor for a full check up as I felt tired most of the time and had weight gain. The result shows low Vitamin D ( 23 nmol/L) , TSH - 2.9 mU/L , Vitamin B12 - 354 pmol/L , Serum Folate - 38.5 nmol/L , Iron - 12.0 umol/L, MCH - 26.0 pg . Is it all normal ?
Avatar f tn Hi Dr. Smita, Thank you for your response! Actually, I had all my blood test checked (calcium, magnesium, TSH,...etc) Everything came out normal except vitamin d is low. Could it be vitamin d deficiency and calcium still can be normal? I don't understand. My doctor prescribed me 50,000 IU vit. d once a week x 12 weeks and I'm taking Gapapentin 300mg at night from my neurologist for sleep. What he told me my twitching is benign and don't worry about it!
Avatar f tn Iron deficiency and on the border of developing iron deficiency anaemia. Vitamin D deficiency (with poor lab ranges - see info below*). Hemolysis (rupture or destruction of red blood cells) may compromise laboratory test results. *"Recent studies have demonstrated that a minimum 25(OH)D level of 32 ng/mL is necessary for optimal protection from fracture and intestinal absorption of calcium." - Curr Rheumatol Rep. 2008 Apr; 10(2): 110–117.
Avatar f tn Of course with taking the meds, ya have to be careful not to burn as your skin is more sensitive and I am not advising anyone on meds to do this - I am doing it because as soon as the summer sun went away, my vitamin D level started to immediately drop.....
Avatar f tn My most recent lab work shows this; T4 free .9 range .8-1.8 T3free 3.8 range 2.3-4.2 T3 reverse 18 range 11-32 I am on 90 mcg Armour a day (1.5 grams) still feeling extremely tired every few days. Any suggestions? I'll go back to dr again next month. Thank you!!
Avatar f tn My D 1,25 as listed above was only 7.1. I don't have a lab that was a Vitamin D,12-Hydroxy. I only have the lab for the Vitamin D,125. There are many diseases that are linked to a low Vitamin D. I don't know what my regular Vitamin D(Total) is. I wonder why the neuro did not run this test for me? What was your D 1,25 level?
Avatar f tn Hi ,I had my Vitamin D levels checked by Quest Lab in november 2008, my level came up 4 and ,my dr prescribed 50,000 mg vit d once a week for 12 weeks ...on the bottle it says vit d 1.25 gelcaps on side effect paper it says dristol D3 maximum i'm confused called cvs pharmacy but always busy i read side effects can get fast pounding heart'i get palpitations and am scared take it yet...
Avatar f tn From my research, and the ailments, it appears my problem has been a continual low or none Vitamin D all along. Tests come back with no Vitamin D or very little. I ran out in the sun, with no sunscreen and now I garden, so Vitamin D should not be an issue, but it is. When I don't have enough Vitamin D, I get mouth sores (not herpes). I take Vitamin D, for two days they are gone, and then come back, until I take my next round of D once a week.
Avatar n tn I eat about 4 balance bars/day (for diabetics/hypoglycemics) and each of them has 25% of the RDA for Vitamin D, PLUS I take a multivitamin. How could I be vitamin D deficient?
Avatar f tn As a start, please post your thyroid and Vitamin D test results and their reference ranges shown on the lab report.
1843713 tn?1318819922 Over 98% with autoimmune thyroid disease are found to be vitamin D deficient due to defects in the receptor site for vitamin D. More vitamin D is needed to force enough vitamin D into the receptor sites. Thyroid tests recommended: TSH, free T3, free T4, and thyroid antibodies: thyroperoxidase antibody (TPOAb) and Thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb).
Avatar f tn Vitamin D Council recommend vitamin D levels to be at least 125 pmol/L (50 ng/mL). Your lab measurements are in pmol/L. This recommendation is based on thousands of studies. Here is just two reasons (I added the pmol/L in [ ] brackets)... "Recent studies have demonstrated that a minimum 25(OH)D level of 32 ng/mL [79.8 pmol/L] is necessary for optimal protection from fracture and intestinal absorption of calcium." - Calcium and Vitamin D: Skeletal and Extraskeletal Health.
Avatar f tn Take magnesium with your vitamin D supplement. The vitamin D council recommend a year round vitamin D serum level of between 50 - 80ng/mL or 125 - 200nmol/L. Excerpt from "Know the Importance of Taking Enough Magnesium with Your Vitamin D: "Most importantly, vitamin D requires and 'uses up' magnesium to convert from supplements or sun into its active form in the blood.
4294592 tn?1354141595 My concern is the vitamin d lab she ran. The doctor states my vitamin d is low. How is that possible on calcitriol? Also she wanted me to increase my calcitriol but what does that blood test measure? Active or inactive vitamin d?
