Avatar f tn Clearly, I need to increase Vitamin D supplemental dosages, to raise my Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy level. But how much? I am really perplexed by my 1,25-Dihydroxy level from , because supposedly 25-Hydroxy convert to 1,25-Dihydroxy. Thanks for any tips.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D has a number of cofactors and the most important are magnesium, vitamin K, zinc, boron and vitamin A. The Vitamin D council state optimal vitamin D [25(OH)D] levels should be between 50–80 ng/ml (125–200 nmol/L).
Avatar n tn My Vitamin D Hydroxy tested 20. Is this low enough for a prescription strength Vitamin D supplement? I need to get my levels up quickly.
Avatar f tn Hi, I was wondering if its possible to have a vitamin D allergy? I drink milk, go in the sun (skin gets red very fast) and eat other foods that contain it and have no problem, but I recently was told by my doctor that I have a vitamin D deficiency. She wants me to start taking vitamin D3 in a 2300 dose. My question is, is it possible to have an allergy to this vitamin even though I eat foods that contain it? Will this high level of vitamin D affect me in a negative way?
3221216 tn?1373640059 My D3 tests come back with a side note that 30-100 whatevers is the normal range. I am taking 12,000 IUs a day (10,000 for breakfast and 1,000 with lunch dinner). Avatar f tn The only blood test that can diagnose vitamin D deficiency is a 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25 OH vitamin D). Unfortunately, some doctors are still ordering the wrong test, 1,25-dihydroxy-vitamin D. Magnesium is essential, you need to take it with your D3. Take D3 with some sort of fat (like coconut oil, avocado, peanut butter, etc. it helps D3 & K2 absorb). Take D3 in morning or afternoon. Not at night. It may keep you up.
Avatar f tn I too faced the same problem and went to doctor, she asked me to go for D4 level test (25-hydroxy vitamin D test), the result was 4 (ng/mL), she prescribed me uprise d3 60k IU capsules.
Avatar m tn These cells express CYP27B1, the gene encoding for the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of the vitamin-D hormonally active metabolite, calcitriol. Treatment with vitamin-D(3) resulted in calcitriol production and induction of calcitriol target gene CYP24A1, indicating that these cells contain the full machinery for vitamin-D metabolism and activity. Notably, treatment with calcitriol resulted in HCV inhibition.
Avatar f tn 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25 (OH) D) test should be used to diagnose a vitamin D deficiency state. Vitamin D deficiency is very common with thyroid disease. In one study, 92% of patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were vitamin D deficient. Check your labs to see if a 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25 (OH) D) was requested by the doctor. If not, then that is one test to request.
Avatar f tn My vitamin D in six months came to Normal from 12 to 38 at the range of (20-79ng/ml). So shall i stop taking the vitamin D since it is on the normal range? Appreciate!
Avatar m tn First the liver must convert vitamin D to 25-hydroxy vitamin D. The second conversion takes place in the kidney when the 25-hydroxy form is further converted to 1-25-hydroxy vitamin D. THIS is the active form. I am not surprised those with Hep C, a disease that affects the liver, are so prone to low 25-hydroxy vitamin D. In these people the liver is not at it's best so is it any surprise to the first step of the vitamin's conversion to be reduced??
Avatar f tn you need him/her to order a vitamin D level AND a vitamin D 1,25 hydroxy level on you. For additional information, visit our discussion on this in the lyme forum... here's the link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Of course with taking the meds, ya have to be careful not to burn as your skin is more sensitive and I am not advising anyone on meds to do this - I am doing it because as soon as the summer sun went away, my vitamin D level started to immediately drop.....
Avatar f tn If you would like your physician to check your vitamin D ratio... you need him/her to order a vitamin D level AND a vitamin D 1,25 hydroxy level on you. For additional information, visit our discussion on this in the lyme forum... here's the link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn Hello all, as the title states, during routine bloodwork, results came back with a slightly elevated serum calcium level. Further testing revealed a low PTH level and low Vitamin D. As far as I am aware, the low PTH rules out hyperparathyroidism. What could this be indicative of? Also, I am a 23 year old male with no prior history of health issues. I do not take any supplements or medications that could have caused this reading. For reference: Serum Calcium was 10.9 mg/dL (8.7-10.
Avatar n tn I've read that the optimum level of vitamin D is around 80. I've gotten mine up to 45 (from 21.) I'm hypo.
Avatar f tn i had a total thyroidectomy almost 3 months ago and have been experiencing increase numbness and tingling on both hands and lately both feet. My calcium level has been normal never low, i am taking calcium 600mg with 400 IU vit D once a day, my endo has increased it to 3x/day awaiting vit d 25-hydroxy result, ....is this related to my vit. d ?...i've read that u can have a normal calcium level but if your vit. d is defficient that can cause the numbenss and tingling......
Avatar n tn We have a low vitamin D, but a higher vitamin D 1,25 hydroxy. If our vitamin D hydroxy gets too high... we are risk for organ damage. There is some very controversial new research that suggests that a vitamin D deficiency may be a symptom of a disease and supplements can make it worse.
Avatar n tn Lupo, I recently posted a question about my PTH of 81 with an ionized calcium of 1.32. I did as you suggested and checked my Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy which was normal at 47.0. So what do you suggest I do now? I also had my Treadmill Stress test today and echo. The results are good. The only problem was that during the stress test my HR went up as expected. I then had the echo after and my HR remained in the 130's the whole time.
Avatar n tn ve had alot of the symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism for a while and have asked my doctor to check my tsh, t3, and t4 levels in the last couple of years but he always tells me they are in normal range but this time I also have low vitamin d despite taking 5000 iu vitamin d-3 several times a week. Does anyone with similar levels have hyperthyroidism? t-3 uptake 47.8 32-48.4 t4 8.79 4.5-11.
