Avatar f tn I was given two months worth of vitamin d once again from my new rheumatologist. When she asked if I remembered if the vitamin d worked for me when I took it back in October and November, I couldn't say for sure but now since I started taking it again on March 20th, which is once a week. I took the second pill yesterday and realized that the vitamin d makes my right hip hurt with radiating pain down my leg.

Avatar f tn From my research, and the ailments, it appears my problem has been a continual low or none Vitamin D all along. Tests come back with no Vitamin D or very little. I ran out in the sun, with no sunscreen and now I garden, so Vitamin D should not be an issue, but it is. When I don't have enough Vitamin D, I get mouth sores (not herpes). I take Vitamin D, for two days they are gone, and then come back, until I take my next round of D once a week.

Avatar m tn Bone spurs grow because of excess amounts of vitamin D. Supplements of vitamin D; or eating excessive food-sources of vitamin d such as cheese, milk & eggs; or excessive sunbathing. Just a small amount of sunbathing will give you enough vitamin d. Also, calcium carbonate supplements may cause bone spurs. Thus, just drink water since it contains good amounts of dissolved calcium carbonate. Remember, calcium carbonate is "bone".
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. It's unlikely that you are having vitamin D allergy as you are getting this from other sources. Vitamins A, D, E & K are fat soluble and can cause hypervitaminosis, but unlikely in your case as you have a deficiency. Also, in case of doubt the blood levels of vitamin D can be checked. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
541196 tn?1293552936 My compounding pharmacist recommended that I take Cod liver Oil with my Vit D since the best sources for Vit. D next to the sun are in fish and fish oils. With doing this we got my 14 to a 31 without the mega script doses of Vit d.. My kidneys are full of stones and there is a risk of increasing stones with a Vit D level that is too high too!
Avatar m tn Our body needs Vitamin D from our food sources and from the sun (this is where the vitamin D is produced from sun on our skin). Take away either of the 2 sources and the levels of vitamin D will decrease.
Avatar f tn Obese individuals who have undergone gastric bypass surgery may become vitamin D deficient without a sufficient intake of this nutrient from food or supplements, since part of the upper small intestine where vitamin D is absorbed is bypassed. Take care!
Avatar m tn the vitamin d content in milk is absolutely ridiculous, i d say none compared to 20.
Avatar f tn Upper Tolerable Limit for vitamin D is 4000IU. You may not need that much however. Magnesium is needed for vitamin D absorption. I found that out when I couldn't raise my vitamin D or calcium that magnesium is the boss! :) "Very few foods in nature contain vitamin D. The flesh of fatty fish (such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel) and fish liver oils are among the best sources [1,11]. Small amounts of vitamin D are found in beef liver, cheese, and egg yolks." - NIH - Vitamin D.
Avatar n tn The flesh of fish (such as salmon, tuna, and mackerel) and fish liver oils are among the best sources. Small amounts of vitamin D are found in beef liver, cheese, and egg yolks. Otherwise you can take fortified food like cereals etc. Spend time in Sun. Get your liver and parathyroid tested. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn * Conditions that impair fat absorption such as Cystic Fibrosis, IBS, IBD, gall bladder, liver disease * Very large or obese body as a larger body requires more vitamin D * Gastric bypass surgery * Very low fat diet - in order to absorb vitamin D the body needs to have fat (vitamin D is fat soluble) * Lacking vitamin D in the diet or a strict vegetarian diet - natural food sources of vitamin D are animal based * Pesticides: most are fat soluble and steroid hormone disruptors (vitam

Food sources of vitamin D include butter, egg yolk, fish liver oils, fatty fish such as salmon, tuna, herring, sardines, and liver and oysters. Pantothenic acid might be called a brain chemical. A deficiency may result in nerve and optic degeneration.
Avatar f tn Do you mean synthetically made? Technically all vitamins are chemicals. If you have concerns about consuming synthetically compounded vitamins, probably the easiest thing to do is google a trusted resource for dietary (food) sources of the vitamin you're looking to monitor in your nutrition and make a conscious effort to consume more of those foods. Generally speaking, in industrialised countries, we get what we need from what we eat with no need to supplement.
Avatar m tn On my labs, however, I had low vitamin d-25 and low serum phosphate (2.0 mg/dl). My doctor gave me vitamin d supplements and then I started taking 2,000 IU per day. Recently, I had another blood test and my serum phosphate had dropped to 1.6 mg/dl with normal being 2.5 mg/dl - 5 mg/dl for the lab that did the test. Is this something I should be concerned about and pursue with the doctor or is this normal?

Avatar f tn Grains are generally low in vitamin A, vitamin D, calcium, certain amino acids, and many trace minerals. Also, many of the B vitamins are lost when the bird discards the shell. This group of foods should only make up 50% of the total diet! This includes all seeds, cereals, breads, pastas, and baked goods that the bird eats. Many of the deficiencies of grains can be balanced out by vegetables.
Avatar f tn You did not state your weight or height to determine your nutritional status. Recommend you start eating food, slowly, 5-6 times a day, take a daily multi-vitamin, and have protein in each meal. Protein comes from animal and plant sources. From animal sources it comes from all meats, chicken, fish, beef, pork, etc.; and dairy products such as milk, yogurt, cheeses, pudding, and ice cream.
Avatar f tn I recently became a vegetarian and I have been reading up on replacing meat in my diet with other sources. However I have an issue with vitamins. Basically I don't want to take a vitamin with a lot of binders and I have been taking One A Day Womens with some success and no reactions. However I'm trying to eat better in general so I've been looing into real food vitamins. There is a lot out there! The milligrams difference between what I'm used to reading is very different.
Avatar n tn Magnesium (leafy green vegetables) might help with muscle strains. Some of the most important nutrients are calcium, vitamin c, vitamin d, magnesium, fiber, and protein, but they are all important. I also take a product called Cell Food, which is trace minerals that the body needs.
Avatar f tn If you are working out you are building lean muscle, not losing muscle. Suggest getting your protein for food sources, not pills. Protein from food has additional vitamins and minerals and possible fiber, depending on the protein source. Recommend a regular multi-vitamin, without protein.
