Avatar f tn I take a multivitamin and Vitamin D. None really help MS but your over all health. MSers are not immune to other health problems. It makes life easier if you have few health problems. That is why I am big on a good diet and exercise. When I was first diagnosed I felt these were things I could control. My doctor says I am the healthiest MS and Cancer patient she has seen. No one would know I have either. I also do mindfulness meditation.
Avatar n tn ve had the battery of tests done for thyroid, anemia, RA. They all came back negative with the exception of a Vitamin D deficiency. My vitamin D level is 14. Could it cause all these problems? I was told to buy some Caltrate and start taking that. But from what I've seen I don't know if this is the right route to take. Maybe I should see an endocrinologist? I also have to go for an MRI of the head sometime soon.
535882 tn?1396576685 Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which means the vitamin goes into our fat cells and the body does not excrete it. It is a required vitamin for our body to stay healthy as all the other vitamins and minerals are necessary. Vitamin D may decrease from certain medications such as certain anti-seizure, corticosteroids, heparin, certain antibiotics, mineral oil, and antacids; or certain disease states such as celiac disease, Crohn’s disease and Whipple’s disease.
1448748 tn?1312956208 I am not sure of all the symptoms of low vitamin d levels. Mine was 10 when I was tested and havent' been tested since then. I do take vitamin d supplements and plan to soak of natural vitamin d from the sun every chance I get. Go with what your doctor says and get tested for ms to see what comes of it. I can say at least your doctor is taking an aggressive approach to what is going on, some doctors lally gag about doing what needs to be done.
550622 tn?1247656720 Good information about vitamin D can be found on mercola.com. Use his search engine and type in vitamin D and you will be taken to a page of archived articles on vitamin D. In some of his articles he recommended signing up with the Vitamin D Council. He was right. It proved to be worthwhile. In one of the latest newsletters from the Council they mentioned taking magnesium with the vitamin D supplements to get the full benefit.
Avatar f tn If you would like your physician to check your vitamin D ratio... you need him/her to order a vitamin D level AND a vitamin D 1,25 hydroxy level on you. For additional information, visit our discussion on this in the lyme forum... here's the link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar m tn And now I have to take these Vitamin D pills. How do you get low vitamin D levels and what is vitamin D used for?
Avatar m tn Everything made sense now, i went to my doctor and described her everything after that she made a vitamin d blood test. After a week my results were up and i was shocked, my vitamin d level was 7.2 but she made it seem like it wasnt a big deal. She also tried to tell me that maybe it was depression but i was sure that vitamin d was the cause of everyhting what happened to me. In the end she gave me an injection vit d and b12.

Avatar n tn I tested my vitamin D level. What do my results mean? I just picked the last two levels since the article is very long.... "My level is between 100-150 ng/ml Although these levels aren’t toxic and aren’t usually harmful, they are thought to be too high. There are no known benefits to having a vitamin D level over 100 ng/ml.
199177 tn?1490498534 It may be due to a diet, which is very low in this vitamin, along with inadequate exposure to sunlight. Another reason for low vitamin D levels is the body's inability to absorb this vitamin, owing to some medical conditions, diseases and disorders. Conditions like liver and kidney disorders can prevent the conversion of vitamin D to its active metabolites. Some hereditary disorders can also hinder this conversion process.
213141 tn?1270662112 While the vitamin D study does note an increased response in patients who take vitamin D, these patients are using vitamin D together with SOC drugs. There is no mention of anybody clearing HCV without peg and riba. I'm sure that vegetables and fruits (and perhaps their juices) will be beneficial to all, the fact remains that the only way to clear HCV is to undergo SOC treatment.
Avatar m tn 000iu/ml i think we just have to discover the best ranges of vitamin d and we may do this ourselves in this community with close monitoring of vit d, calcium, ast/alt, hbvdna and hbsag quantities better than researchers
Avatar m tn Vitamin D may help, but it cannot cure. You should take daily Vitamin D supplement, or spend regular time under the sun and a diet change. Whether you need treatment because your viral load is high should be decided when you test your ALT and hbvdna in a few month's time. Finally, UAE is one of the few stupid countries that discriminate against workers with HBV. Your government should protest. Just my opinion.
Avatar f tn I'm posting here, because it seems that people with vitamin D deficiency have similar problems to mine. I've been experiencing a sort of swaying feeling for seven months. This is a daily occurence. Three months in I started experiencing bouts of nausea. For the past two months other symptoms appeared. I've been feeling sort of faint, various muscels have been twitching, two knuckles on my right hand started to get inflammed and started hurting.
Avatar f tn On the other side of the argument, the current state of modern medicine is hysterical in its pronouncements that we are ALL deficient in Vitamin D and everyone MUST take Vitamin D supplements. That 'everyone must' approach also makes me suspicious ... so for a long time I avoided taking Vit D supplements on principle, and would get sun when I could. Although I don't get a lot of sun exposure, my Vit D readings have been consistently low-normal, and that was okay with me.
649848 tn?1534633700 I asked my pcp for a lab order to get my calcium, vitamin D and PTH tested. He refused, saying that it was totally unnecessary (typical of this doctor). I know a lab near my house that will test the calcium without a lab order - it just won't be covered by insurance because the insurance co. requires us to use a specific lab. For $35, I'm not concerned about that... I found an advertisement for a "blood spot test" that I can order online.
5143317 tn?1383747820 I had my vitamin d tested about 2 months ago and my level was 36ng/l with a range of 30-100. I've been having crazy hypothyroid like symptoms for months. Weight gain, inability to lose weight, depression, mood swings, inability to control my emotions, low sex drive, dry skin, not sleeping good, etc. Could the low end vitamin D be causing the symptoms? I've had cortisol, various hormones and all thyroid tests, everything is normal.
Avatar f tn My vet said that my male dog which has not been neutered should take Vitamin D to keep him from having seizures. Is this dangerous?

9924471 tn?1419954420 Did the doctor say to give the baby the Vitamin D? If you're breastfeeding, you can take it and it should give your baby what he needs through your milk.
Avatar f tn Hey everyone, so the last time I went to the Dr she told me my vitamin d levels were inordinarily low - like 19.2 or something. Well she prescribed me 50,000 units of vitamin d once a week. Had anyone experienced any side effects from taking such a high dose of a vitamin? Especially constipation (on top of reg.
Avatar m tn Hi. I'm dealing with low vitamin D myself after recently discovering it is low. I've been supplementing for quite a while before learning that I'm low. Going to pick up portabello & shiitake mushrooms until my visit with GP. If I learn anything of value I'll share it here. It is said not to shower for 24 hours after sun exposure for full absorption of Vit D.
