Avatar n tn 1.3 mg for men and women under age 50; 1.7 mg for men and 1.5 mg for women over the age of 50, 1.9 mg for pregnant women, and 2 mg for women who are breastfeeding. About toxicity,--- Too much vitamin B6 can result in nerve damage to the arms and legs. This neuropathy is usually related to high intake of vitamin B6 from supplements, and is reversible when supplementation is stopped.
Avatar f tn B6 is all I used. Knocks it out in no time. Best little trick ever.
Avatar f tn I stopped the B6 supplements in April 2008. I am STILL suffering. Sometimes, it gets better, but then B6 seems to be hidden in things without being on the ingredients list and it gets worse again.
Avatar m tn Hi. I've been on high doses of B6 for 6 months now to reduce my LDL cholesterol and raise my HDL. It worked well, but yesterday I had an incident about 30 minutes after taking the vitamin where I became flushed and the prickly sensation evolved into pain. Within minutes I felt weak and dizzy. Since I thought I might pass out, I lay down on the floor but was afraid I'd pass out and no one would find me so got out to find my phone.
Avatar f tn I started having the pins and needles 6 months ago. My neurologist did a B6 test and my B^ level was 1400. I take no vitamins with b6 in them only Calcium and B3. I checked to make sure there was no B6. Since then it has fluxuated with the lowest being 285. I had a blood test last week and it is back up to 1000. Do you have any ideas of what to do next. My neurologist suggested that maybe I should see a endrocronologist.
Avatar f tn Called my dr to see what else I could take... she suggested Unison ( sleep aid) and vitamin B6 and oh my god.... I feel 100% better and was so hesitant to try it ..
Avatar m tn You could avoid supplements that contain B6 and limit your intake of foods rich in vitamin B6, such as fortified cereal, bananas, salmon, turkey, chicken, potatoes, spinach and hazelnuts.
Avatar f tn My doctor did not seem to think it was a problem, but I am wondering because of the symptoms I am having. I was taking the B6 in a B-complex capsule (25 mg of each B vitamin) so I should have had sufficient folate and B12 since they were included in the B-complex. It doesn't really seem like 25 mg should cause a problem, but obviously it elevated my blood level of B6. I'm not sure whether to stop taking the B-complex or not.
Avatar m tn Vitamin B6 is found naturally in our foods, however, B6 supplements are the main reason for toxicity of vitamin B6. Long term (2+ years) supplementation of 500-5,000mg/day will result in medical issues, such as neuropathy which maybe reversible with discontinuing the supplement and lowering high B6 foods. The recommended daily dose is 1.3mg for men & women ages 19-50 and 1.7 for men >50 years old.
1209948 tn?1266069659 Vitamin B6 is a vital vitamin in our bodies that plays a critical part in numerous body functions. Some medication can interfere with the vitamin's status in the body. Vitamin B6 toxicity causes temporary neurological symptoms (as you described), which, according to the literature, usually take up to 6 months for it to resolve itself for majority of people. There are some people who do have permanent damage.

However, vitamin B6 can cause neurological disorders, such as loss of sensation in legs and imbalance, when taken in high doses ( 200 mg or more per day ) over a long period of time. Vitamin B6 toxicity can damage sensory nerves, leading to numbness in the hands and feet as well as difficulty walking.
Avatar m tn s more worrisome than the amount of zinc, though why are you taking so much zinc? Both are toxic in overdose. B6 can also be a problem in overdose for some people -- there's a neuropathy associated with it that doesn't affect most people, but it does some. Make sure you have a good reason to think you're deficient in these and actually need them.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Vitamin B-6 is essential for maintaining healthy nerves and muscle cells and is useful in the production of DNA and RNA. Vitamin B6 dietary allowance is 2 mg and toxicity may occur on taking 100 mg daily.Headaches, mood changes, severe fatigue, nerve damage are few common side effects reported. There is no prescribed treatment for vitamin b6 toxicity. You may limit the intake of foods and supplements rich in this vitamin to overcome the condition.
Avatar n tn The MTHFR gene is extremely common and can lead to a problem processing the B Vitamins, making people particularly susceptible to deficiency of B12, folic acid, and Vitamin B6. Ironically, in these cases, Vitamin B6 Levels and Vitamin B12 Levels will be HIGH, despite actually being a DEFICIENCY of these vitamins. This is because the vitamins build up in the bloodstream, where they are measured, but the vitamins can't get into the cells where they are needed.
Avatar f tn I asked the doctor, and the doctor gives him neurobion (the ingredients are 100 mg vitamin B1 mononitrate, 200 mg vitamin B6 hydrochloride, 200 mcg vitamin B12). The neurobion helps him, so that he can study for the next day. In internet i also read that vitamin b deficiencies can show adhd symptom. So...is there anybody have the experience like my son ?
Avatar f tn The UPMC notes this supplement has been studied in children without any negative effects but formal studies evaluating its safety in this population have not been conducted. Do not give 5-HTP to children without talking to your pediatrician. Vitamin B6 The National Institutes of Health reports that the RDA for vitamin B-6 is 1.3 milligrams to 1.7 milligrams for men and women. Pregnant and lactating women are required to get 1.9 to 2 milligrams of vitamin B-6, according to the NIH.
Avatar n tn It is recommended not to take any supplement of vitamin B6 and try not to eat large amounts of foods high in vitamin B6 at meals for 6 months. After 6 months I suggest you only get Vitamin B6 from your food sources (no greater then 100mg a day) and not from supplementation. The Food sources with lowest amounts are: Peaches, Milk, Peas, Carrots, Ground Beef, Brown Rice, Soybeans, Avocado, Banana, and Turkey. Hope this helped you.
Avatar f tn I started taking a 100 mg vitamin b6 supplement daily while trying to conceive in addition to my prenatal which also contains 15 mg of b6. I read that b6 helps increase your cervical mucus. I got pregnant the cycle I started taking the vitamin b6 supplement. Can I continue taking 115 mg of b6 now that I am pregnant or do I need to taper off or stop taking it altogether? I'm concerned about possible effects a high dosage of b6 has on pregnancy and developing baby.
Avatar f tn I also tested positive for half of the MTHFR gene mutation. I have cut out B6 foods in my diet and within a month, returned to a normal level. However, I still have the same symptoms. Tingly feet, legs and hands, unbalanced and lightheaded and have passed out a few times. Now, with my new bloodwork my Vitamin K is elevated at 1453. I have no idea what this means. Am I not processing vitamins correctly in my body because of the MTHFR gene mutation.
