Avatar m tn Does it work? I can't find literature about its effectiveness, or reviews. I currently supplement with natural Carlson's fish oil with enhanced DHA and EPA (15 grams daily), megadose vitamin E, and megadose glucosamine+chondroitin+MSM daily for anti inflammatory effects for my joint and tendon problems. I am looking to treat trauma of the brachial tendon to treat pain during bicep workouts by using a glucosamine cream.
Avatar f tn I read about linus pauling too, and wonder whether he was doing his megadose treatment with this type of alkaline vitamin C or not...
Avatar f tn Make sure you use vitamin D3. I understand that we get told not to take more than 2,000 iu/day, but when the levels are low we actually need more than that in order to raise the level up to normal. This is why we're given the weekly megadose of vitamin D2 when our levels are so low. By the way, when my doctor first tested my vitamin D level, it was only 8, which is even lower than where you're at now.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm 18 and was diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency in Feburary earlier this year with a level of 15nmol and was only put on 800iu a day. However my symptoms got very bad by July so I was put on a weekly tablet of 20,000iu d3 a week and after just 4 weeks my levels had risen up to 110nmol so I carried on taking the weekly dose for 4 more weeks but my doctor never repeated my blood test at the end of it.
535882 tn?1396576685 When people are as severely vitamin D deficient as I was, they are prescribed a once weekly megadose of vitamin D 2. But, they are still told to take a daily dosage of vitamin D3 of 2,000 iu. The idea behind this is to not only boost with the megadose, but to maintain with the daily dose. It matters overall which form of vitamin D you supplement with. So long as you don't need to raise your vitamin D level, then you only need to supplement with natural D3.
Avatar n tn I buy my vitamin D3 from swansonvitamins.com. Like you, I was dangerously low on my vitamin D before doing this.
Avatar f tn I am using vitamin D3, as this is the natural form of vitamin D. The megadose that I had been prescribed in the past was vitamin D2 and was used to help boost the vitamin D up to where it is now, barely normal. You only have to use the RDA of magnesium. My neurologist says 400-800 mg and at a separate time of the day than taking the calcium.
Avatar m tn re taking a megadose of vitamin D, instead of stopping the supplement when your levels get up, just decrease the dosage in order to maintain.
Avatar f tn My doctor prescribed 50,000 unit megadose of Vitamin D to take once a week. My doctor told me to take it on the same day each week. The morning after the first time I took it, I felt like I had more energy and was happier. Things that would normally have given me anxiety didn't bother me as much. I even had enough energy to go for a mild work-out.
Avatar m tn The idea behind vitamin therapy for PTSD is to saturate your body with micronutrients to stimulate an increase of serotonin, a brain neurotransmitter with a primary role in mood and fear. Megadose vitamin treatment for PTSD is not deemed clinically effective as a sole treatment and is not intended to replace a traditional medicinal approach. Vitamin B12 has a role in producing the chemicals involved in regulating mood. MayoClinic.com indicates that depression is helped by using vitamin B12.
Avatar f tn They ran a bunch of tests and came back saying that my bloodwork was spectacular, except for a Vitamin D level of 16. They prescribed 50,000 iu a week of ergocalciferol for 8 weeks and said they'd retest my blood then. I took the first pill last Thursday and within a few hours felt awful. I had terrible insomnia, anxiety, etc. The dr. said not to take it for a couple of weeks and then try again and see if the same thing happens.
689528 tn?1364135841 I haven't experienced morning sickness yet. (Fingers crossed I don't) At times I'll get like a hot spell and maybe feel a little nauseated but it never lasts longer than a minute. Anyway...was wondering if everyone takes extra vitamin B?! It's supposed to help and while TTC I started taking B50 complex and I am still continuing it. I think this may be why I don't feel sick.....LOL I'll keep ya updated though cuz I'll just be 5 weeks tomorrow!!
Avatar f tn s most likely Vitamin B12, she would probably need injections. Her Vitamin D and magnesium may need to be raised as well.
Avatar f tn About 3 weeks ago, a blood test showed a vitamin D deficiency, and his doctor started him on 50000iu vitamin D3 per week. Over the 3 weeks since starting the vitamin D, he has had extreme anxiety which is much worse upon awakening in the mornings, although it does go on all day. This is very unusual for him, as he is retired, and under no particular stress at all.
Avatar f tn Are you taking magnesium with vitamin D supplements? That's the one that seems to be the most critical to synthesize vitamin D. You can get more information on the Vitamin D Council's website. While I do think something more is going on here and there is a good reason to be posting to the experts, I do know that taking magnesium with the vitamin D is actually critically important. Even just the RDA seems to be sufficient to get the most use out of your vitamin D supplement.
382273 tn?1206529485 How much B 12 should you take?? The pills that I have are 250mcg. I was told to take these to improve on my lack of energy.
Avatar f tn So, both the conventional doctor and the naturopath agreed with no arguing about how much vitamin D I should take to get my levels up to normal. I had to take the prescription megadose, plus natural vitamin D to get my vitamin D up to low normal. This is the first cold and flu season that I can remember not catching a cold or flu at all. And, I originally started out with almost no vitamin D at all!
Avatar f tn t be given the prescription megadose of vitamin D2. You will have to take vitamin D3, which is the natural form of vitamin D that our body can synthesize better than the synthetic vitamin D2. The D2 is used initially for severely deficient patients, like I was at one time. It nearly killed me, too. The RDA for vitamin D is still significantly too low. Minimum healthy intake for vitamin D3 for folks with a healthy vitamin D level is actually still about 5,000 iu.
Avatar n tn In a new report, French researchers confirm that megadose vitamin B6 and magnesium therapy markedly improves communication and behavior and aids in normalizing biochemistry in children with autism spectrum disorders. A related report, this one from Japan, indicates that the benefits of B6 therapy are long-lasting.
366581 tn?1207590159 Is vitamin B-50 o-kay to take when trying to conceive? I've been taking them and just thought (now) maybe its not a good thing to do. Is there something else I should be taking? I'm just taking them because normaly I feel tired and sluggish all day and these seem to keep lifted and not so tired feeling. I think I'm just in the winter woe's these days. Crabby, moody, and no sex drive. Its hard when trying to conceive and having NO sex drive lately.
Avatar f tn a vitamin b def will cause all your symptoms. I have a vit b-12 def and I get shots once a month. You can follow up with a blood specialist, and see what he says. I also have a pos ANA test, but I have some auto immune diseases that run in the family so that would make my test come out pos even tho I show no symptoms of anything.
Avatar f tn Not a horrible thing, but if heterozygous can cause a problem with homocysteine levels b/c your body cannot absorb Vitamin B and Folic Acid. As they cannot really find an underlying cause for you, I would suggest researching this or asking them to do a simple blood test. Most people never know thay have it as about 50% of caucasians in the US have some variant of the mutation, few feel any symptoms of it, but this could be an underlying cause for you.
691724 tn?1230682644 Energy drinks are all the craze. My husband uses those little bottles of 5-HOUR ENERGY drinks. I read the label and it has extremely high amounts of Niacin and B12. I know certain vitamins are stored in the body while others aren't. Are these B vitamin doses safe on a regular basis? Also what happens to the body when high doses of B vitamins are ingested like this?
1381186 tn?1280202029 If you test low in a certain vitamin B, then that would be one you would want to focus on. The most likely for this is B12. Vegetarians in particular can have a problem getting enough B12. But B6 is so involved with manufacturing serotonin and GABA that it is also crucial, but too much of it can cause a neuropathy, so you want the right amount.
Avatar f tn Vitamin B complex will only fix your depression if you have a Vitamin B deficiency causing your depression symtoms. If your depression were caused by poor thyroid function you would have to take medication to correct your thyroid function to fix your depression symptoms. If you have actual depression caused by a lack of seratonin in your brain, you need medication for depression to fix that deficiency. Vitamin B is not going to fix your seratonin deficiency.
