Hi. I've been dealing with recurring flashes in my left eye, and have been working with a doctor who is monitoring them. However, it's after hours right now, and I just experienced some flashes with a simultaneous shadow in a different part of my eye, and I'm not sure if this means I've got a tear or not. The flashes always occur in the outside corner of my eye, while the shadow appeared across the lower left corner and bottom of my eye.
you mentioned the other form of Optic Neritus I went to 2 Neruo Ophthalmologists and and my own eye doc as as well as an eye doc out in San Diego State Universtiy at the Shiley Eye Center.. and nobody can figure out what is going on with my eyes. all picture tests are coming up clean and all dilation of eye pupiles are not showing anything. The important thing is the vision issues started 5 days AFTER the numb face and eye lids in January 2008. Can Astigmatiasm cause the color changes as well.

Thank you for your answer. I do not have perfect distance vision and have glasses for distance. I have been using store bought reading glasses but thought the prescription was made for my eyes. Are you saying that I don't need to get them from the optomitrist? If they are not made for my eyes only, I am wasting my money but thought they were.

Prednisone does not cause central vision loss or macular damage.
In steroid responders it increases IOP and causes optic nerve damage, but it is the peripheral vision that is lost first.
i had been out drinking on new years eve with friends and did throw up and dry heave one time but the problem did not start till january 2nd.
Also, I have had these symptoms for over a year: static of snowy vision, a sense that there is a veil over my eyesight, and when I turn the light on in the middle of the night it used to hurt when I directly looked into a light source, but now it doesn't.
