I went to see my Dr today and he recommanded to change my medicine to Viread (I am on Epivir more than 2 years). I am wondering if it's necessary to change it now since Epivir works well with me (my DNA is 200 copies). But he was worried about resistance and mutation. Do I have to listen to him? I got Viread today but I am not sure I would start taking it from today.

My doctor let me have Viread. I checked online at pharmacy checker. Tenofovir Disoproxil Fumarate Tablet and Viread Tablet, are they the same in treatment wise? I went to CVS store, it cost 1000 USD to 30/300mg for Viread Tablet. is it too expensive? The staff there told me generic tablet is not available. But why I see it online as I said earlier?
What happens if I take brand and then switch to generic like a year later? Will the generic medicine do the same?

I am a healthy carrier of HBV and have been taking viread for more than 1 year. The latest blood test showed that HBV DNA was below the detection limit. I came to malaysia to work recently and after I came here, I tried to get viread and seems i could not find it anywhere. My doctor recommand that I can take Baraclude, but I am a little worried. I saw in the old post, that people take both, but for my case, by just pure change from one to another, will there be any side effect?
My doctor told me to take VIREAD (its a antiretroviral tenofovir) and need to have follow up check up after 3 months. Last Dec 2014 I had also my next blood test. After 3 months of continuous taking that VIREAD, my DNA Viral load last Dec was 7082IU/ml then my hbsag quantification was 97,000, hbsag and hbeag were still reactive, but all of my whole abdomen are normal even my fibroscan result is still normal.
chill mate this is normal in starting it is the immune respone when you take tenofovir ...it is a very safe and good medicine i have completed 10 months on viread it has done wonders for me...my hbv dna was uncountable >170000000 and when i started tenofovir(viread) alt spiked to 85 and ast 65 on 4th month of treatment and now they are normal on month 10 alt is 36 and ast is 27 and hbv dna quantitative is 430 iu/ml .
d change doctor, make a resistance test to see if you developped any resistance and make entecavir 1mg+tenofovir 300mg (baraclude+viread) combo, consider adding alinia (nizonide500) off label therapy or combo with interferon too to see if you lower hbsag or make it negative because as you know NUCs like entecavir and tenofovir have no effect on virus clearance they just make hbvdna und
