Avatar m tn it is not more efficacious it has less toxicity than tdf on kidneys but also this is not an issue on hbv, until now it is more a way to patent a new version of tenofovir because viread will soon be out of patent, trials will confirm its utility but with all the new drugs coming out the next few years i dont see it as uselfull for hbv especially if viread will be much cheaper
Avatar m tn Why? Gilead loses the patent on Viread in 2017/2018. Their cash cow will have run its course and they will be more than happy to release this drug to continue to reap the money for HBV treatment. There is one thing I remember Dr. Gish telling me that I won't forget. He said "you know Gilead is working on a drug that will make it so you don't have to take Viread for ever. It's kind of odd that they'd be working on a drug that will eliminate their Viread income".
Avatar m tn I would think TAF in time will be approved for HBV too , just like Viread has. When TAF becomes approved it will come with that patent that Viread has now. No big surprise I read that TAF is said to get FDA approved around the time Viread's patent ends. Personally, I feel it's a big game the drug company uses to continue to make more money. Gilead knows Viread will be available as Generic in the near future, so they have to have a new Brand up and coming with TAF.
Avatar m tn tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) is a prodrug of tenofovir. The 'disoproxil' is a side chain attached to the active component 'tenofovir'. Inside our body, this side chain gets cleaved off by an enzyme to release the active tenofovir. AGX-1009 has a different side chain attached to the active component 'tenofovir'. It may show higher potency and/or lower toxicity compared to Viread because of this different side chain (At least that's what Agenix is hoping for).
Avatar m tn so it is not that if you buy in US you have a better chemical for sure viread itself is very cheap in india thanks to competition, entecavir lost patent, it had no rights to patent the compound, actually even tdf was an already know substance so india did not allow the patent by the way when i used nitazoxanide to try clear hbsag i had a test for purity on drugs said to be produced in US (they are not, they are produced in cheap countries and just relabeled), the worst was that produced in US

Avatar m tn Stefano and others, thanks for your help. As I posted before, 2 of my relatives are currently undergoing Hepsera monotherapy. I went to a new doctor for a second opinion and the Hepsera-prescribing current doctor for an explanation of treatment choice. The first doctor agreed that Baraclude and Viread are to be dispensed per current AASLD guidelines but, once you've started with Hepsera, there is no need to change.
