Avatar n tn Hi, I had a bacterial throat infection: including sore throat, fever, headache and body aches.....This was before x-mas, I was given Augmentin, which pretty much cleared it up, except my cough and congestion.... After x-mas The cough got worse and fevers, tongue ulcers and head and body aches came again, my Dr. said this time it's viral, so it would have run its coarse, it's been almost a month and still hasn't cleared up at all.
Avatar m tn I experienced a mild case of the Jarisch - Herxheimer reaction over 36 hours after treatment. The sore throat has not yet improved, the tonsils still have white mucous patches, and the rash does not appear to be improving. I'm also still getting headaches everyday, especially at night. My question is what should I expect in terms of resolution of these other symptoms? Weeks? Months?

Avatar m tn Acute laryngitis caused by allergies, viral infection, chronic laryngitis and laryngoesophageal reflux all can cause hoarseness and voice difficulties. Rare but serious causes producing these symptoms are vocal cord paralysis and vocal cord tumours. Please see your Otolaryngologist (Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor) for an evaluation. A detailed clinical examination and tests can help in determining the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn I am still trying to recover from viral infection. I thought that it was sinus infection. I was given Allegra but havent used it yet. Instead, I am using a nasal spray and just trying to do old fashioned remedies: humidifier, running hot showers to losen phlem. I have been sick for 6+ weeks now. Still feel terrible.
Avatar m tn It can be caused by bacteria like streptococcus or it could be a viral infection. Bacterial infections need antibiotics. Your symptoms can also occur due to a chronic throat infection, which could be due to a post nasal drip. Try warm saline garles. That may provide some relief. You should seek consultation with an ENT specialist .That will help diagnose the cause. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Keep me posted. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn I have had a persistent cold. Started out as a sinus infection then it became a sore throat (just like strep) with a high fever which lasted 3 days. I saw the doc and she gave me Amoxycillin for 7 days. It then eased but worked its way down to my chest and had l some build up of fluid in the lungs and as a result i was constantly coughing and trying to get it out. It has been going on now for over 7 weeks and will not completely go.
Avatar n tn I am a hepatitis B patient currently taking the HIV anti-viral drug Truvada. My hep B is very controlled right now and its viral loads undetectable. I was wondering if my situation suggest a possible infection and whether Truvada can possibly influence the symptoms somehow.
Avatar f tn Hi, the symptoms described could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar n tn The doctor told me it was probably strep throat and prescribed me penecillin. My throat got better. Only 12 days off of the antibiotics, and I decided to get tested for a STD as the symptoms of painful urination and an itch in my penis worsened and became much more bothersome. Now I'm wondering, could this strep throat really have been gonorrhea or another STD.
Avatar m tn Hi, yes, viral infection will eventually clear on its own. Sinus infection can be asociated with sore throat. 4 Weeks is long time, get the throat swab for culture. Do regular warm salt water gargling. Take care and regards.
Avatar f tn If you're asking if you got herpes from this procedure, certainly not. It could be coincidental that you have a viral infection, or strep. And yes, it could be herpes, but again not from this procedure. Clearly you need to be seen to know what's going on.
Avatar m tn The white patches have a cottage cheese appearance. They can occur as a consequence to throat infection or sometimes steroid inhalers are known to promote their growth. You need to consult your doctor for proper assessment. In the meantime you can try warm salt water gargles and betadine mouth washes. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Ive been living with genital herpes for about two years now, and i recently have an infection in my throat that i think might tie to oral herpes. My symptoms started off as fever, chills, and body aches then my upper throat on the right side became very swollen and soar. im having diffulculties swallowing and its just super soar and painful. My doctor diagnosed me for pharyngitis eventhough i tested negative and the antibiotics arnt working. Could it be a herpes infection?
Avatar n tn Sounds like you have mononeucleosis (Mono for short) which is a viral infection that usually clears up in 3 or 4 weeks. Penicilin won't help but you must finish the course of tablets - unless you develop a bad reaction, of course. If you're still not feeling any better you have to go back to your doctor because mono can sometimes cause an enlarged spleen. If you develop any pains under your ribcage or in your back then DON'T WAIT, see the doc straight away.
242516 tn?1368223905 The flu has passed epidemic rates in much of the country, and if you don't have a cold, I'm sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread.
Avatar f tn I have cold like symptoms, i cough so hard and i have a serious headache. Does any one know any home treatment i can do to ease the pain and the headache.. Thanx in advance for those wholl write back.
Avatar m tn Do you think that such a high level of the viral load after 3 months after infection could mean the infection will progress faster or? My doctor told me there is actually no consensus whether to start the therapy once infection is detected during this first stage. Thank you for your answer in advance!
Avatar f tn Hello, everyone! Two days ago, I had a TERRIBLE sore throat. Went to the doctor to get swabbed, did not come back for strep. No fever, but I felt sweaty at night (I think it was due to bad dreams LOL). Accompanied by a pounding headache. The next day, I woke up congested with a runny nose, I coughed up some green phlegm and felt fine the rest of the day. Now, I'm sneezing a bit with clear mucus and it doesn't feel like a cold at all.
Avatar f tn Thus, what you most likely have is a viral sore throat or at worst, strep throat. If it is strep throat and it could well be you need treatment. Thus I would suggest that if it si not clearly viral and has lasted more than a day or two, you get checked but that you not worry about gonorrhea. Based on what I've just said, it also follows that I can assure you that your GF is not at risk, hope this helps.
3142113 tn?1343379632 A throat infection is not caused by hypothyroidism. Throat infections can be streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
Avatar m tn On the other hand, nobody can say the risk is zero, especially with repeated open mouth kissing. Is your kissing partner on treatment for her HIV infection? What is her viral load (the amount of HIV in her blood)? If on treatment with a low viral load, any miniscule risk will be even further reduced. In any case, to be maximally safe, I would recommend you have an HIV test from time to time, like once a year. Other STDs also are not transmitted by kissing, with few and rare exceptions.
