Viral pneumonia symptoms in adults

Common Questions and Answers about Viral pneumonia symptoms in adults

pneumonia

Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
Avatar f tn Thank you I was going to ask how old she is , there is bacterial and viral pneumonia. In viral symptoms appear gradually and are less severe in bacterial they get sick fairly quickly and have a high fever and rapid breathing. With treatment bacterial is cured in 1-2 weeks..viral will last longer. There are vaccines now .
242516 tn?1368223905 t help in these viral infections. Treatments aimed at reducing symptoms can help. A recent review in the American Family Physician journal on Feb 15, 2007 highlights some of the treatments that are helpful in the common cold and how to tell if you're getting worse than just a viral infection: http://www.aafp.org/afp/20070215/515.html http://www.aafp.org/afp/20070215/522ph.
Avatar n tn Just a quick follow up question regarding the answer you gave me Dr. I have found a couple of online articles stating that Ribavirin has either: little or no HIV effect.
Avatar f tn I think there is some bad information in this thread. Pneumonia is a bacterial infection. Swine flu is viral. A viral infection does not cause pneumonia. A viral infection can however leave the body susceptible to pneumonia bacteria that it would otherwise be able to defend against. As a middle-aged adult I am thinking of getting pneumonia vaccine as well.
Avatar f tn I'm still suffering from a viral infection which gave me typical cold symptoms with pain in my right shoulder and neck , a swollen sore throat and a productive chesty cough. After two weeks I was prescribed, over the phone, Doxycycline antibiotics which haven't helped. It's been three weeks now and I'm still coughing up mucus and have been told I have infection in the base of my lungs. I couldn't say if the mucus was clear or had blood in it as I'd been swallowing it.
Avatar m tn 1. flu/fever 2. for the past 2 days, just mainly been sleeping. 3. pain in abdomen 4. no appetite, not too much energy 5. coughing (dry at first, became wet) 6. yellowy phlegm 7. sweating while sleeping and woken up by it at times 8 some diarrhea / indigestion\ 9. nausea You guys tell me to GO HOME it's not a HIV concern because I had "protected" sex? It just seems ****** up to me that I am experiencing these symptoms 1.5 weeks after my encounter with the sex worker.
Avatar f tn One might suspect that you have underlying asthma and that when you get a viral infection each year, it triggers pneumonia –like symptoms. I would suggest getting a pulmonary function test while you are sick to see if this is, indeed, asthma. If this is not the case, another possible reason is that the local immune system in your lungs is not protecting you from the infection. This is usually an antibody problem and can be checked with a blood test.
Avatar f tn You can get a throat culture to see if you carry it. But since you have symptoms you should probably see a specialist. Your symptoms could be caused by something else too.
Avatar f tn Anyway, there are different reasons we get pneumonia. People think of bacterial or viral. We can also have chemical or traumatic. And pneumonia is not like bronchitis. So, symptoms are not always as predictable. It can take a while to get over. If you still have your symptoms on day 5 on antibiotics, I would call your doctor. The thing with antibiotics is that different ones treat different pathogens. What pathogen caused your pneumonia if it is bacterial?
Avatar n tn That being said, though, and assuming this is viral in nature, once you have pneumonia you have progressed significantly through the viral process already and the more important thing is clearing the lungs. There are many herbs that can help with this, too, most of which are mullein based, including pleurisy root, lungwort, and many others. But since puemonia is a very serious condition, I would only do this in consultation with your physician and a naturopath.
Avatar n tn You also need to wait until your child is cured from pneumonia as it can produce asth alike symptoms such as breathlessness and a cough. I personally have severe asthma and am currently suffering from pneumonia.
Avatar n tn lol if you dont have thoese symptoms it could be pneumonia.. if the mucus is orange or green and you have not yet gone to the doctor i would go.. if its yellow or light green its viral and they cant do anything take advil and try and sleep..
Avatar n tn You could have a secondary bacterial infection that you can get after viral pneumonia that is called walking pneumonia and is caused by either bacteria called Mycoplasma or Chlamydia pneumoniae. "Walking" pneumonia gives you a low grade fever, tiredness, dry hacking cough, pain in the ribs area. They can check for these by testing and culture. It is important for you to get your lungs listened to to make sure you are ok.
Avatar f tn Same here.. I was in the hospital from Jan. 17-23 Pneumonia in my Left "lobular pneumonia" here we are now on Feb 20, 2022 and my left rib cage feels like someone hit me hard there.. but my 02 is in the mid 90%.. but it really hurts to cough sneeze as you say burp.. which sucks because I am supposed to be trying to cough up remnants of the phlegm, But coughing is painful so tend to try to suppress it.. I have a Lung cancer screen CT this Tues the 22..
Avatar n tn It seems that you started with a viral infection. Bacterial infections often piggyback on viral infections. Azithromycin 250 is appropriate, although it should have been for seven to ten days. You should take this medication with grapefruit juice, which will improve it's effectiveness. Absolutely positively no alcohol. It is pointless to look at "pictures' of bacteria. You have bacterial pneumonia. Get 45 minutes of sunlight every day.
Avatar n tn Probably someone more experienced will answer your question more in detail. Everyone has different symptoms with different illnesses. This was just my experience. Hope I helped you somewhat.
Avatar f tn Does anyone have any idea what's wrong with me???? I took clarithromycin for pneumonia back in May, and within a few days I was experiencing acidic, watery bowel movements that would make the entire anal area itch terribly the rest of the day. After the antibiotics were done, I took probiotics and such. The concern was clostridium difficile colitis, of course. Weeks after I was off the antibiotics, I had pain in my chest area.
1806721 tn?1554333407 This would include things like bronchitis, sinusitis or pneumonia, etc. There is also viral pneumonia that comes with fever. Complicated, right? What I'd do is see your doctor. That will put your concerns to rest and you don't have to wonder if it is anything serious. Urgent care works for this kind of thing too. Use lots of hand sanitizer/wash hands to keep those around you from getting sick. Come back and tell us how you are!
Avatar n tn My son had been diagnosed with pneumonia 4 times in the past four months, as well as bronchiolitis in between. He has been treated with Rocephin, Azithromycin, and Amoxil. He has breathing treatments 4 times a day (pulmicort & xopenex) has had 2 episodes of cyanosis, and been hospitalized for low oxygen satuation, wheezing etc. His pediatrician tells me I shouldn't panic and that he has asthma. He is only 13 mos old!
Avatar n tn Now she has Pneumonia, her Right Inferior Lung is collapsed, and she has a paralyzed diaphragm. What could have caused this? The doctor's say it is not from the surgery, but maybe from an underlying condition she already had. She's been 6 weeks and has not received an answer from the doctors as to specific treatment, or what may have caused it. Any suggestions?
Avatar n tn Would carinii pneumonia present itself with just a minor cough and congestion and no fever, no rash or other symptoms. In other words is this type of pneumonia something that is more severe? I have not had an exposure to someone with HIV, but I have allowed myself to receive oral sex on occasion from guys that I did not know their HIV status.
Avatar m tn Everything came back negative or no issues. Met with the neurologist and he thinks it could be post viral symptoms even though all I had prior to the incedent was a lot of sneezing no fever or even remember being sick. So I am still dizzy and still sick to my stomach. What else could this be?
