Avatar f tn I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you? I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.

The prognosis by the vet is poor and I'm wondering if there is anything else we can do other than keep her hydrated and treat/prevent secondary infections. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days. Because the symptoms are similar, it is easy to confuse diarrhea caused by viruses with diarrhea caused by bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile, salmonella, and E. coli) or parasites (e.g., giardia). If your symptoms persist, see your doctor for further workup and management.

If you are feeling nauseous, then you can take antacid gel. Talk to your parents as discussing your worries often helps. Also, exercise, walking, yoga is therapeutic. Avatar n tn If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.

Aside from exposure to a cold environment, viral and bacterial infections such as bacterial gastroenteritis, infectious mononucleosis, pneumonia, strep throat and urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis may be the underlying cause. If it persists, it is best that you have this evaluated further for proper diagnosis. You may benefit from a referral to an infectious disease specialist also.
Avatar f tn Started 4 months ago with a bad stomach bug which I couldn’t shift for ages and drs thought was gastroenteritis. Had feelings of fatigue and weakness accompanying and some dizziness. Then about 6 weeks ago I started getting really tight neck muscles and tingling numbish arms and hands in the mornings upon waking which went away after getting up and moving. Also had twitches all over in feet calves thighs stomach arms and face which really frighten me.

Avatar f tn Assuming the symptoms are acute, this is likely to be a case of viral gastroenteritis. You could try taking plenty of fluids to keep yourself adequately hydrated and some OTC anti spasmodics for the pain. If the pain is severe, of you have dizziness or blood in stools or the diarrhoea does not seem to get better in 4-5 days, it is advised to see a primary care physician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management. Since it happened after a viral infection,so causes could be dehydration and decreased amount of minerals like sodium and potassium in the body.It can also occur because of hypoglycemia or improper sleep during the infection.
Avatar f tn The next day I had two more episodes of watery diarrhea, severe nausea and felt lightheaded and dizzy, I went to my GP and was diagnosed with viral gastroenteritis and given a liter of NS. I started to feel better for 2 days then suddenly had severe nausea and extreme dizziness not vertigo more a lightheaded presyncopal feeling. I rested in bed for a day thinking it would resolve but it only worsened along with loss of appetite, weakness, fatigue, feeling tired.

You may have sprained your neck during sleep. I would suggest you to continue with the heat and ice therapy and take a mild OTC painkiller. Avatar n tn I went up there and took her to the doctor and she was basically told is was a stomach virus (gastroenteritis) drink plenty of fluids and it should go away in a couple of days but when I look up Gastroenteritis it says that it's common in people with weaken immune system caused by HIV. She took her 3 month birth control shot the morning before but I'm sure that didn't cause Gastroenteritis. My question is should I be concerned about HIV at this point.

For most people symptoms subside within 1-3 days but you're contagious much longer. You can still pass the virus through your stool for 2 weeks or so and it can survive on surfaces for a long time too. Just take it easy, eat bland foods and rest a lot.
