I went to the doc after 5 days. He said its just viral gastroenteritis. I looked up the condition and it says you have vomiting and/or diarrhea, but i have neither. I am worried it is appendicitis, but the appendix is on the right side, not left. I am really in pain but i am taking my meds as described. Does this sound like viral gastroenteritis to you?
I am in such severe pain just laying here typing this and barely moving.. Please help. Thank you.
Viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear 1-3 days after you are infected and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days. Because the symptoms are similar, it is easy to confuse diarrhea caused by viruses with diarrhea caused by bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile, salmonella, and E. coli) or parasites (e.g., giardia). If your symptoms persist, see your doctor for further workup and management.
Viral gastroenteritis is an intestinal disease set apart by watery the runs, stomach spasms, sickness or retching, and once in a while fever. The most widely recognized approach to create viral gastroenteritis — frequently called stomach influenza — is through contact with a tainted individual or by ingesting debased nourishment or water.
About 70% of persons with ARS have sore throat, fever (over 101), and skin rash (all three), and probably around 90% have at least one of these. Diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms can occur, but rarely as the most prominent symptoms. Seven days is early for ARS onset -- maybe possible, but generally it's 10-14 days. Finally, ARS typically lasts 1-2 weeks; 48 hr is definitely too short.
But your persisting symptoms of vomiting could also indicate a viral gastroenteritis. The other causes could be jaundice if there is yellowish discoloration of skin, food poisoning if the symptoms occurred shortly after taking food, peptic ulcer disease and sometimes cholecystitis and pancreatitis. If you are passing stools a lot and have stomach pain then in all probability you have either food poisoning or gastroenteritis. Take an OTC lactobacillus preparation and yoghurt with your meals. Drink plenty of fluids. Eat light, do not stay hungry but eat simple things like toast, porridge, cereals, crackers etc. Take ORS. Take over the counter antacid and antiemetic (this SOS for vomiting). Watch out for a day or two with this treatment.

You can follow up with an abdominal ultrasonography to detect any structural abnormalities.

I understand your concern regarding your inability to stay warm and chills. Aside from exposure to a cold environment, viral and bacterial infections such as bacterial gastroenteritis, infectious mononucleosis, pneumonia, strep throat and urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis may be the underlying cause. If it persists, it is best that you have this evaluated further for proper diagnosis. You may benefit from a referral to an infectious disease specialist also.
My beck is looking the same way.The rash on my beck is flat and sometimes itches and it burns for sometimes.
I have been suffering from several symptoms for over a year and they are progressively getting worse. I have a crack in my bathroom ceiling of my rented apartment and have cleaned mold off of that ceiling before. I have a feeling there is still mold growing inside of it. I have the following symptoms:
~Chronic Sinus problem w/ a cough. Worse in the morning and at night (i.e. when i'm home)
~Fatigue: I am constantly tired/have no energy.
Started 4 months ago with a bad stomach bug which I couldn’t shift for ages and drs thought was gastroenteritis. Had feelings of fatigue and weakness accompanying and some dizziness. Then about 6 weeks ago I started getting really tight neck muscles and tingling numbish arms and hands in the mornings upon waking which went away after getting up and moving. Also had twitches all over in feet calves thighs stomach arms and face which really frighten me.
I'm about 6-7 weeks and my morning sickness is horrible. Unless I take nausea meds I throw up every 30 min and can't keep anything down. At the ER they said I had viral gastroenteritis but that was over a week ago. Does anyone have morning sickness this bad??
Assuming the symptoms are acute, this is likely to be a case of viral gastroenteritis. You could try taking plenty of fluids to keep yourself adequately hydrated and some OTC anti spasmodics for the pain. If the pain is severe, of you have dizziness or blood in stools or the diarrhoea does not seem to get better in 4-5 days, it is advised to see a primary care physician for an accurate diagnosis and appropriate management.
