Vioxx heart

Common Questions and Answers about Vioxx heart

vioxx

Avatar n tn I had a DVT that went through my heart and into my lungs(PE). A valve was damaged, also one chanber of my heart. My problem is that I wasn't diagnosed as a "heart attack", but rather a "pulmonary embolism", and the lawyers representing me in my vioxx lawsuit say it has to be a heart attack, not a PE. Isn't a heart attack part of a PE? Rather, did I suffer a heart attack as well as a pulmonary embolism?
Avatar n tn Vioxx was withdrawn from the market in 2004 due to heart/stroke issues. I doubt you can even get it, but if for some reason it id given to you, ask for something different. I know a couple of other people who have gout with no rise in uric acid. So yes, it probably is best to just go ahead and get treated if your doctor agrees. I assume you've probably already been to the doctor by now. Hope it's cleared up. That pain can be brutal!
Avatar f tn As independent studies started to show a correlation between Vioxx and an increase risk of heart attack and stroke, the NIH funded the VIGOR study I believe in 2001 at the request of the Arthritis Advisory Committee to determine if there was indeed a link. What they discovered was that all NSAIDS increased the risk for heart attack and stroke with Vioxx being the worst.
Avatar f tn I voted 10-20.
Avatar m tn COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. It is recommended that people with liver disease avoid using all NSAIDs.
Avatar m tn t stop the vics), that being aside, you should read the warning leaflet and decide for yourself if the side effects are worth it. I was given vioxx years ago, read the warnings about heart attacks and such, and threw them all in the trash! Not much later it was pulled from the market. If I lost a loved one, $$ isn't going to bring the back anyway, it's all stupid. If I do myself in, I guess I will come back and haunt the manufacturers....BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...........
Avatar n tn Symptons are always have been cold, tired, joint and muscle pain worse in fingers, I took Vioxx before it was removed , high blood pressure , tinnitus, completely deaf over 2,500 cycles in both ears. Hearing aids made no difference. Dentist last month couldn't freeze my gums with 2 needles of Carbocaine. 7mm nodule on thyroid. Blood tests TSH 2.15 ( range .465 to 4.68 ) FT4 11.17 ( range 10 to 28.2 ) Total T3 2.02 ( range .92 to 2.

Avatar m tn 13 months ago I had a HA. 100%blockage of the ALD. Stent was inserted. Prior to this event I had low BP, Low cholesterol, don't smoke, exercise and no family history of heart disease. Ef was 20-25 after the HA. last Echo put EF at 35-40. Stopped taking plavix after one year, now taking 81 aspirin every other day. Stopped taking beta blocker at one year. Still taking 2.5 Ramipril twice a day. My BP can run 95/65 & Heart rate 60 when resting.
Avatar f tn There are three different COX-2 inhibitors currently available to the public– Vioxx, Celebrex and Bextra. COX-2 inhibitors have been associated with some liver dysfunction, although not as commonly as other NSAIDs. Recently, Vioxx has been removed from the market due to heart-related problems. Celebrex and Bextra are currently being investigated for similar heart-related toxicities. Cheers!

Avatar n tn [2] A series of small-scale studies completed in Germany found that H. procumbens was indistinguishable from Vioxx in the treatment of chronic low back pain,[3] and was well-tolerated after more than four years of treatment of H. procumbens alone.[4] H. procumbens also seems efficacious in the treatment of arthritis-caused hip and knee pain.

If NSAIDs are medically required for the treatment of another medical disorder, a reduced dose should be used for a limited period of time and only by people with stable liver disease.
Avatar n tn ive bin having bad pain and cant function normal .im always in pain and my two arms go numb to the fingers. i take vioxx, a pain patch, and neurotin. but that doesent seem to be helping its going on two years and im going mad, what can i do.
973741 tn?1342342773 As far as I can tell, this is only a problem if you have hypertension. If you have normal blood pressure, the rise isn't going to affect you that much. Celebrex and Vioxx are far more connected to major heart events, again as far as I'm aware.
Avatar m tn Years ago I tried Vioxx (the non-sulpha version of Celebrex) and wound up in the ER with dangerously high BP. Trouble is, even after I stopped Vioxx my BP never went back to normal. Now I'm on two different BP meds to control it. (Full disclosure: I also have a family history of hypertension.) I took meloxicam for a long time because I could take it along with my BP meds, but eventually my stomach couldn't take it anymore.
Avatar m tn I have a long history of controlling severe headaches and body pains with over the counter pain relievers, and I used to take Vioxx until it was removed from the market. Should I be concerned about kidney damage at this point? I am 62.
Avatar f tn In that same period of time, 490,000 people have died from prescription drugs, not counting the Vioxx scandal. That means that prescription drugs in this country are at least 16,400 percent deadlier than terrorism. Again, those are the conservative numbers. A more realistic number, which would include deaths from over-the-counter drugs, makes drug consumption 32,000 percent deadlier than terrorism. But the scope of "Death by Medicine" is even wider.
Avatar f tn neurontin and lyrica for nerve pain, aspirin, ibuprofen, acetaminophen, celebrex, vioxx, midol, dozens of different types of opiates both synthetic and derived from the poppy, marijuana, kava, willow bark, turmeric, ginger, benzos, nitrous oxide gas, ether, and that's just again not even thinking hard about it.
Avatar n tn fib/flutter in patients without valvular heart disease (problems with their heart valves). Do you have any heart valve issues? It has been accepted by the FDA for that indication. It is very expensive as you say, however the nice thing about it is that you do not have to have blood monitoring.
429432 tn?1343594190 Years ago, she gave me Vioxx, I read the warning leaflet and threw the pills in the trash. I was right, they were pulled off the market later on. I'm not sure about this either...
Avatar m tn I was even prescribed VIOXX in the States for these symptoms.
Avatar f tn Stress/anxiety/depression can trigger a whole SLEW of physical symptoms (nausea, headaches, flu-like symptoms, rapid heart beat, hot/cold flashes, tingling/numbness, brain "fog"..... the list goes on and on and on). If you developed physical symptoms since the anthrax scare you may have developed a health-induced phobia. Do you have a fear of dying? Of getting some nasty disease? Anxiety can cause physical symptoms which can compound this issue.
Avatar f tn No one in my family has it. No one in my family has had any heart related health issues ever. No history of heart attack or cardiac arrest. Most of my family have died from cancer. I'm 5'8" and 125 lbs (thin and slightly muscular) I'm half Japanese. My blood pressure is 115/69. I work out 2-3 times a week without lots of cardio (mostly do yoga and isometric exercises).
Avatar f tn i worry about long term effects from any of these nsaids, to be honest. hell, vioxx had to be pulled b/c of heart attack risks, wth. i thought these were supposed to be the "safe" ones. ppl have noticed that i get irritable sometimes when i was on narcs but that phase seems to have changed at some point bc i stopped getting irritable when on. it is strange how over the course of the years i've been on and off and on and off that their effects on me have changed bit by bit.
865758 tn?1285952904 ve had tachy all my life due to a congenital heart defect (electrical). Before I was on levo, it was totally under control without heart meds. However, the minute I got on levo, the tachy went wild. Before levo, I had a few episodes a year, after, I was having 10-20 per day. Beta blockers do wonders in lessening the tachy. Do your episodes last for very long? Have they come up with any cause? Are they acknowledging that the levo may be causing or exacerbating the problem?
